Anyhow, I don't find working in squads fun at all, especially if it is a squad that's working together. I think maybe some of you have misunderstood me.

As I asked before (but you prolly missed), could you elaborate on this point?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna flame you for enjoying the game the way you wanna play it. I just wanna know what makes you so allergic to teamwork.

Your entire arguement is that people don't use squads effectively thus squads suck.

It is a poor arguement. True, they are hard to find. . . however, I play with fiends and NOTHING is more fun than having a few guys running around together working together, covering each other's asses, etc.

I agree in that the typical full squad, even one that works together, is too big and clumsy for my tastes. It's artillery bait. It's a pain in the ass to move quickly (unless you have a Blackhawk), it's easy to trip over each other's LoFs.

I don't want a full squad as much as 1-2 other people who have similar playstyles.

1 Spec Ops

Other combinations would work fine as long as there's one set of shockpaddles among the trio.

Ergo, each player should be willing and able to play any of the kits. When the Medic dies, someone can nab his gear and trade out roles without a second thought and without the squad missing a beat.

But that's my personal philosophy for gameplay - light, fast, flexible, and agile. Small radar signature. Easy to hide the squad. I don't need more than one buggy or jeep.

I'm still trying to find the other two people :)

Most squads suck but if you play with friends or manage to find a good group of guys that know what's going on it's great. I can get a lot more accomplished with a squad and have fun doing it. If you're not having fun with a certain squad, change squads or make your own.

Squads are what elevates BF2 above good old BF1942. I have so much more fun fighting and communicating with a bunch of people playing as a team than going it alone. IMHO.

That's the kind of attitude that detracts from the game. If no one joins a squad you have about seven squads with one guy in it. With that the commander has no one to command and all rear CP's become lost. With that the game is lost. SO what I'm saying is join a squad people!

Playing with a good a squad takes the game to a higher level. Being a member of a bad squad can ruin the experience. The game's a lottery.
I've had some good SF games alone, but my best have been as a member of a good squad. My best few games where a couple of nights ago. I couldn't find a squad that suited me, so I started my own. One guy joined, and we spent an hour together without him even speaking to me, but it didn't matter, we kicked arse on a 64 player server. Coming top or near the top every round, simply by being on the same wavelength and playing smart. One of us was always a medic, and the other, usually assault. If the medic died first, the other grabbed his kit and revived him, if the squad leader died, he left the squad, rejoined and respawned. If the new squad leader wasn't a medic, the spawner would spawn medic. We took on bigger groups of players and beat them down. If the situation looked a bit dire, we retreated and came back. We took flags, defended flags, rampaging around the maps, usually on foot, sometimes in a buggy or pick up, and making good use of the grapple and hook, racking up kills and points.
Last night I was on in a 6 player squad for several rounds. They were very communicative and the squad leader was good at finding a good spot to hide, so we could constantly respawn until we took the flag.
When it looked like a flag was definitely going to be ours, he'd follow up and provide medical attention, plus those who'd recently died could spawn on him at flag final flag cap and get a couple of points. On defence we were impregnable.
Overall much more exciting, rewarding and effective than lonewolfing. Unfortunately these scenarios are not common place in BF/SF, but overall compared to BF2, playing SF provides the best chance of finding a decent squad which will enhance your game experience.

i agree squad are unrealistic to some extent like spawning on the leader, however it makes the game unique because squads and commander theorically should work together to win the game. Some squads do wander off in random directions, but the squads that dont can be very effective. Going solo also has its benifits, but it isnt the only conponet of the game. One thing however i dont like about squads is when the leader is in a tank and the squad memebrs just keep spawning by the tank over and over again.

I guess I feel restricted. I want to do what I want to do, and sometimes that's something I can't do when I'm with a squad. I also feel that I'm always competing with my squad for kills and support points, and that sucks too.

If you want to find a good squad that can communicate effectively ...

Start a squad with a name like 'Teamplay', 'TeamMics' or 'MicsOnly'. When you get people that join just start with a 'Hey how's it going.' Usually you can pick up right away who's willing to work together by doing this. I find that if I can converse with the other players in the squad, they're more up for working as a team and employing different attack strategies against the enemy.

In my squads I don't want lone wolves. There's NOTHING you can do that my group can't do better. If you want to lone wolf go fly in a jet.

Aw crap... After reading the initial post I was so excited to explain why it CAN be fun to work in squads, but I'm in no mood to read all replies, and I hate posting **** that's already been said...
All I can say is: Topic-starter!!! Add me (my totalbf2-name is the same as my game-name) to your buddylist and join me in-game... I'll show you how much fun teamwork can be...

Me and my clan mates are good but not great players individually. Probably a little above average. However when we work together as a squad we own maps. We do repeated shutouts when you can cap all the other teams bases. Heck we won 299-0 a couple nights ago. We use teamspeak to co-ordinate so we always know what going on, where the enemies are and what kits we need. Thats the power of a co-ordinated squad. We rotate leaders to whoever is left alive after an assult so we all can spawn right back in the action. It turns average players into a lethal machine.

Squads with random people can kinda of suck though. Most of the time they wander off and ignore the objectives you're trying to achieve. But its very different with a regular group of people.

So you're saying that you basicly play for kills and points. This is prolly your hang-up. While understandable (it is cool getting a ton o points), I don't play for the same reasons.

I play ta see some good action 'n win maps. I feel better seeing my squad take out a well defended CP (even without me getting any personal kills) than I do just shootin people.

Runnin 'n gunnin is very much been-there-done-that for me. It's the team interactions that sucked me into this game.

LOL jk, I love playing with a good squad. For me, nothing is better than when you and your squadmates are taking flag after flag, eliminating all opposition. :p Also, when I get in a good squad, I tend to get more points.
