Re: EA's response to the buggy Warlord map...

    I have
    a64 3000+
    2g ram
    ATI radeon x800XL

    Run at
    1600x1200
    Everything high/max
    except
dynamic light, dynamic shadow, texutres, and lights are medium.

No problems on any of the maps now. Though with SF I had to turn my textures down to medium instead of high with bf2 vanilla.

      IMHO
      Don't unlock:
Jackhammer - extremely hard to control recoil after the 1st shot. And DAO12 rules if you love shotguns.
G36E - Many will disagree, but once you're hooked on the L85, the short bursts of the G36E and the lack of accuracy will mean you'll never use it over the L85.
G3 - Iron sights are HUGE and obstrusive, then again I'm a L85 junkie, which is what I compare it too.

Note: Although people tell you not to unlock the MP7, if you play eng it's a hell of a lot more fun to use than the Jackhammer, so grab it!

buy another 1GB stick of ram. Not to sound like a broken record, but everyone that complains of poor performance in the game but doesn't have 2GB of memory should just buy more ram. It really does solve nearly all problems, I say nearly all because the net connection makes a difference as well, along with the entire PC in general. People that have really nice comps like you have but only run 1GB of ram just need the upgrade. Ask anyone who upped their memory what kind of difference it made. Everyone I know that did this have seen night and day differences.

No problems for me on Warlord either. However fps dropped down to 15-18 on 64 player Iron Gator maps when in the bowels of the ship, but since I dropped settings slightly, installed the 81.95 Nvidia drivers, deleted the BF2/SF caches and reoptimised shaders, it drops to around 25fps (80fps outside the ship) on Iron Gator which is far less intrusive. Fps on other maps is usually around 50-60 up to 90+ fps.

            Before SF/1.12
            1280x1024@70hz
All high except dynamic shadows/medium. 2xAA

            Since SF/1.12
            1280x960@70hz
High settings except lighting/medium, dynamic lighting/medium and dynamic shadows/low. 2xAA.

The latest Nvidia drivers seemed to help fps a little and improve the overall graphics quality.

We may not like having do fiddle with settings, but as someone has already mentioned, the BF2 engine isn't built for complex indoor scenarios with multiple levels and 64 players crammed into a very small area. That's a serious amount of rendering and computation taking place. My PC is probably above average, but not a top spec high end machine, so I'm realistic and understand that I can't run everything on high at top resolution...

Amateur? I had 3 threads open and firefox obviously mixed up the target of my POST to a different thread.

One more thing, if you're so ignorant or such a tech newb that you can't see how that would happen, then you reserve the right to keep your head firmly planted in your ass, son.

On a more on topic note:
              Athlon 3200 XP @ 2.4
              2x 1gb DDR 3200 (Kingston)
Ati 850XT PE only slightly O/C'd
1600x1200 High 2x AA High AF

I get lag on every map at first, but once I travel into the map and my FOV narrows, it runs like butter... with the exception of Iron Gator that lags a bit constantly. The little bit of lag I do get, isn't really affected by turning the graphics down.

I was playing at 1280x960 for a while, thinking everything was much smoother, and I did have a higher AVG fps, but it was still jerky at times. So I cranked it up to 1600, still get nearly 60fps.

Better high res jerky than low res jerky!

Well, I hate to do all this fiddling around with my machine, but if that's what it takes....

The fact of the matter is that I love this game so much that I'll probably play it no matter what. It just so happens that I'm building a new machine this month with the following specs:

                either 2 7800GT's or 1 7800 GTX
                AMD Athlon X2 4200+
                2 GB DDR 400 RAM
                2 250 GB hard drives
                etc, etc

This isn't because I want to run BF2 better, it's just because I don't want to run AGP video cards anymore. However, I think I'll see a definite improvement on this game after getting this machine up and running.

Well with that 3 grand in your box i would hope you have no friggen lag.

If i were you I would buy the single 7800GTX because you can use them in SLI mode as well and this way you can upgrade to another 7800GTX down the road and get that 80% performance increase. A better boost than from a standard 7800GT

That's actually kind of what I was thinking. I don't necessarily care about having the SLI going right this second, as long as I have the capability to do it when these cards come down in price. Then I can add another one and skip a whole generation of video cards!! (Unless some new kind of pixel shader model comes out or something)

Re: EA's response to the buggy Warlord map...

I guess I need to clarify; I don't have a lag issue, just a fps issue on SF. I run 1280x1024 / 4x AA / 8x AF, and I have no issues in the vanilla BF2 with these settings, my fps are fine. SF on the other hand is another matter, and I refuse to change my setting downward for the expansion pack because frankly, I don't like it anyway. I built the system you see below just for BF2 (and future stuff).

Dice has an issue with SF, and it should be fixed. Will it get fixed?....well I really don't care because I don't play it anymore.
