Re: Petition - Optimise SF maps for better fps

I've been posting over and over about this, especially on Warlord. My machine is in my sig. I too was able to run BF2 Vanilla on all high settings, and now I have to turn stuff down. In fact, I'm reading the forums right now because my favorite server is playing Warlord and it bogs my system down so bad sometimes that it crashes once a new map pops up.

I reformatted right before SF came out in anticipation of having a fresh clean Windows installation to run it on, and that didn't make any difference. I've decided to just deal with it since I'm building a new machine this month with a 7800 GTX and 2 GB of RAM. HOWEVER, we should not have to have this kind of machine for a game that was developed for 1 GB of RAM and a series 6 Nvidia. The packaging states that with a series 6 card or higher, you should be able to run everything on the highest settings with no problems. BS!!

      X-Mas Upgrades:

      AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Socket 939 Dual Core Processor ($500)

ABIT KN8 Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard ($100)

ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan ($70)

      eVGA GeForce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit PCI Express x16 Video Card ($300)

      Crucial 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory ($100)

ASPIRE X-Navigator 500 Silver/Black Aluminum Mid Tower Computer Case ($155)

Current (run vanilla BF2 on medium/low and still get low FPS):

      AMD Athlon 2400+ (outdated..)
      GeForce 6800 (plain)
      1GB of DDR400 RAM (3200)
      Soundblaster Live! 24-Bit
80 GB Hard Drive (kinda outdated, and I only use 20GB of it! :))
      Windows XP Pro
      Aspire 520W Power Supply
You're building almost the exact same one that I'm building. However, I suggest you get 2 GB of RAM.

This can't be done as the reason for slow maps is inside the games engine.

According to Tom's Hardware Guide, an extra GB of RAM doesn't help gaming performance. 1GB is optimal. The CPU speeds (both main and GPU) and the memory on your graphics card counts alot more. As for FPS, anything above 30 is good. With your rig however, there should be NO reason whatsoever for SF to lag at all.

The big memory leak is a big hit on performance. Other factors that slow down the game would include redundant lights, or maybe the texture files are too big or something.

Fact is ALOT of tweaking needs to be done on SF, and I doubt we'll get any of it before Christmas. EA is ruining their name in the business by doing the "launch-then-patch" strategy. They had a 1-month-window that could have been used extensively for tweaking. IMO, they need to change the project leader in charge of product-2-market planning, and the project member in charge of communicating with DICE.

I doubt the software engineers from DICE couldn't see that the game would be a let-down at its current state. I pity them. =/

EA could care less about a petition of 5 members from an anonymous forum.

jeez, you tihnk theyre going to offer a patch that makes the graphics on par with bf1942?

the fact of the matter is that with 2 7800 gtx and 2 gigs ram youre clearly screwing up your comp bad if its slow.

i play on high settings and i only have 1 gig and 6600GT, and its super smooth.

                Hi CareBear.

Thanks for your input. Now go and play SF super smooth on your piddly system while I have a cup of tea with Santa and the Easter Bunny.

Try turning sli off and running just one 7800. The problems you're experiencing aren't due to too much detail. Anyway, the prospect of them saying "sorry it's too pretty, we'll tone it down a notch" is just silly. Are you sure you've got all sli compatible drivers etc? It's true that people with sli are having as much problems as some of the rest of us, but it's not a graphical error. It's in the coding. Good luck

I think somthing needs to be done with the maps. I mean some of the maps i can hardly play. My computer really should be running this game without any problems.

It's not silly to ask that poorly optimised maps get toned down a little.

Maybe theoretically but, believe me, updating to 1.5 or 2 GB in BF2 does Wonders!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope that optimizing fps will not be on cost of picture quality again like in 1.03. 1.03 was running excellent and they just messed the performance up with 1.12. Can´t be just the more effects on SF because vanilla BF2´s perfance is a bit worse, too.

What kind of Internet connection do you have? And what's the upload/download speed?

As a troubleshooting step, try playing single player. If you get the same problems (you almost certainly won't with that rig), then it's not your connection. If you don't (i.e., single player works fine), that's a pretty good indication that the problem is with your broadband connection - or anti-virus or anti-spyware, etc.

My system is good, but not top-end like yours. I have a 5600/760 dedicated DSL line, though. Things run great on servers w/low ping.

                              Good luck, man.

This is not "fact" but just a possibility. The fact that tons of people with high end machines could play a smooth game pre SF/1.12 (and still can play other games just fine) clearly suggests that there´s something wrong with the patch, not with people "screwing up their comps".
