      Re: Tribute to DC

the m16 is futuristic? and what about the LAV-25. well here we go:

      LAV-25 Light Armored Vehicle
      Customer Challenge
Delco Systems designers began investigating an electromechanical (EM) conversion of the LAV-25 hydraulic turret drive in the early 1990's. The original turret system used a hydraulically-driven actuator and conventional ring or "bull" gear, along with the usual hydraulic accumulator, motor pump system and associated plumbing. Advances in magnetic material technology, digital electronics, and drive systems now made an EM solution feasible. As a state-of-the-art upgrade, the electromechanical servo offers a significantly smaller system volume, elimination of hydraulic plumbing and accumulators, greater system safety, lower maintenance, higher Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), lower Mean time to Repair (MTR), and drastically lower levels of audible noise

that means the LAV-25 was commissioned sometime in the 80's, not too futuristic.

lets look at the cobra shall we:

Current AH-1W assets are comprised of a mixture of new production AH-1Ws and aircraft block upgrade AH-1Ts remanufactured into the AH-1W aircraft. By the early 1980s, USMC aircraft inventory was declining due to attrition; a fully navalized helicopter was sought. In 1983, the USMC contracted with BHI for 44 AH-1Ws. An upgrade to the AT-1T, the AH-1W was received in 1986. The Tactical Navigation System (TNS) was placed in all production and block upgrade AH-1W aircraft delivered since February 1991. Previously delivered AH-1Ws are retrofit with TNS prior to CCM/NTS induction. The NTS/Canopy/Cockpit Modification (CCM) replaces the existing canopy, nose faring, and copilot/gunner instrument panel to make provisions for the NTS and adds the TNS, CDU-800, to the front cockpit. Additionally, a communication/ navigation upgrade, ECP 1686, incorporated an ARC-210(V)Electronic Protection (EP) Radio, an ARN-153 V-4 TACAN, and an AN/ASN-163 Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System (EGI) commencing in 1996.

        not too futuristic.

DC was the first real game that suxed my life away and will always stand tall against any oher game. it was just fun and thats it.

bf2 for all its glory stilled leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth, a comunity that has seemed to of left the "com" out. i very rarely find a tactical based squad to get on and enjoy my time playing, instead i am abused, punished for accidents, sniped out of planes(own team) and just a general feel of trying to get the greater stats.

though through the chirn of it all i still love bf2 as it is a very modern game and shows off what the age has dawned into.

also to speak of balances in games and compareing it to reality is futile as balance doesnt exist here either. games are escapeisms, personally, and i cant see an argument when saying this is greater when it shouldnt be.

one lonely mans point of view, but yes LONG LIVE THE MEMORY OF THE DAYS OF DC!

lets look at the m1a2 for fun shall we:

During the Army’s current M1A2 procurement program about 1,000 older, less capable M1 series tanks will be upgraded to the M1A2 configuration and fielded to the active forces. There is currently no plan to field the M1A2 to the ARNG. The Army has procured 62 new tanks in the A2 configuration and as of early 1997 completed the conversion of 368 older M1s to M1A2s. The first three years of M1A2 Abrams upgrade tank work, between 1991-1993, delivered 267 tanks. A multi-year procurement of 600 M1A2 upgrade tanks was run at Lima [Ohio] Army tank plant from 1996 to 2001.

            "update completed in 1997"

I'm kind of leary about it. I think too many people want the same old thing jet handling and ****, I think alot of it has to do with people having a hard time adopting to a new style of game play maybe, so they would rather have it be something they were good at and not something they have to get used to.

We will see though, I just hope they don't end up taking a step backwards instead of forwards, I hope that I am wrong on my uneasy feelings about it lol.

You do know you can put more than one of those in one post, or use the edit button, right? All you're doing is going for a post count += one, and most people here know about those weapons. Heck, look at the B-52 currently in service and how long it's in service. It's not unusual for weapons to be in service that long, so the weapons in BF2 will more than likely still be in service a decade from now, some even longer.

As far as the DCon team, from what I understand, most of it are simply testers and fans that have the talent to mod but were never part of the DCom team. I personally would like to see a few DCom guys come back, just to sort of say "Hah EA, not falling for it again.", not to mention no matter who from the DCom team joined, they would be adding their talent to an already talented group of people.

2045 is the offical phase-out date for the B-52 I think, provided the have a replacement better than the leaky B-1, or the hilariously expensive B-2

Think of the old saying: "If it aint broke, don't fix it"

The Ak-47 has been around for almost 50 years, the Iraqis in Desert Storm were using tanks made in WW2 Russia. Old cheap projectile weapons will always be in demand by gangsters and poor countries.

But these'll soon be replaced by the lasers

Like someone mentionned earlier, it took more than 5 minutes for a new player to fly 'em (I say "new" because I never was able to fly the bf2 choppers properly. more on that below...).
When you reduced the throttle, the chopper actually dropped like a stone. You could pull off some craazy stuff using that. I just hate the unresponsiveness of the helos in BF2, although I do love the infantry aspect of the game.
I read that desert conflict's helicopters WILL fly like in DC, so although it's not released yet, they've already got me amongst their fans!!
And yes, the stingers/SA7 really owned everything, even if they weren't guided. It's a game that's more played for fun than for a fake sense of realism.

But don't get me wrong, I love BF2! I'm just an ol'timer rambling on 'bout how it was better back in the days!
oh mate i never knew they was going to be using the same helo physics as DC in desesert conflict, cant wait to see what it's like :)

yes i realize that, just trying to show that BF2 is not set in the future. My point being is that BF2 is DC with different vehicles.
