Re: Looks like EA and DICE are scared
I don't think the lag would really be an issue. If anything, taking the tracking systems off the TOWs, SRAW, Eryx, and the like, would reduce it as it would be a lot less calculations to just have a set path with gravity and a wind modifier (which could even be a server settings and simply be an arbitrary value that affects everything just like gravity in the game) than to be tracking it constantly from user input. As far as kit interactions, there's a little bit going on there, but not quite to the full potential that it could have. Right now, the guns have a deviation that's basically like throwing a die at medium range. There's NO reason why an assault rifle shouldn't hit someone at 50 meters when you take 3 seconds of prone aiming and then fire. I know people say "OMG THAT BE OVERPOWERED!" but if you think about it, once you give EVERYONE that ability, people aren't just going to run down an open street in a warzone like an idiot anymore. That just have to learn to get the drop more often, and then it would actually MATTER when you got the drop on someone, so it evens out. You run around like a moron, you pay for it. But at the same time, you know you have a gun that can do as much harm as the one that's being trained on you.
The helicopters? That wouldn't add more lag, just more......crashes from people thinking multiplayer would be the place to practice. If vehicles had a more difficult learning curve, it wouldn't be so much as they were called whores anymore, they would have practiced to get that good. Most people would still call them names in game, but at the same time, there would be some sort of exclusiveness to those who actually took the time to learn something, but the ability to learn would be there for everyone if they so desired.
I know we generally have varying opinions Wargimp, but hey, civil discussion is the way to make things better. :) And I do agree the ability to spot is a great feature, but I also feel the commander assets push that over the edge. If one person spots them, they should have the ability to communicate it to the rest of the team, which makes the spot feasable to me. And since we don't have hand gestures in game, the spot makes up for that in a nice, clean way. Squad and commander communications are good, but the commander needs just that, the ability to see squads in an organized manner and concentrate on the team, not have super-human abilities with far-fetched weapons that take no thought to really use.
