Now that I'm getting more used to the new maps,I found SF to be quite fun;I like the new toys and such.
Howewer, since is supposed to be more infantry-squad orientated, I feel for ppl that think it's more caothic.
I think that a new game tipe would have been a nice addition;like an objective-attac-defense kinda game mode.
A la Americas Army,so to speach. That will promote SQUAD tactics, use of VOIP and actually a good use of the commander:p
Instead of running around capping flags,SF should prompt you to...rescue hostages...escort or kill VIP's...demolition of anemy assets..ecccc.
And I feel that respawn time should be increased at least,if not deleted.
So maybe ppl would not run around like little rambo, careless of tactics and SL orders.
And I agree on the lack of new weapons 4 the insurgent-mac-spetznaz armys.
I think you'll find that those who have most of their kills with vehicles will be the most frustrated with SF. They don't have as much practice or experience using the infantry weapons and probably will get killed a lot more than they're used to.
Those who were proficient with infantry weapons in vanilla will tend to dominate in SF...
ah, finally a thread that the whiners haven't gotten in yet :)
I find SF much more fun than VBF2, it is more chaotic but inf maps own!!
The vehicles are still the same but most flags can only be capped by infantry so thats good, the only thing is if you are stuck on a team full of retards then it gets very annoying dieing every 10 seconds. I'm still learning the maps but so far I would give the game a 9/10, and thats only b/c there are a few bugs in it.
SF is alot better than the regular. First off....NO PLANE WHORES!!!! Also the fact that all the maps are infantry maps is great. Some people hate the night maps but it is a great element that just takes getting use too. It just sucks that you can get shot out of nowhere. Also the use of the grappling hook and the zipline is great. On regular BF2 you had a projected path towards a flag on urban maps. But in SF you can make your own way to the flag especially on a maps like night flight and mass destruction. The only problem I see is only giving one side the unlocks. Most people think the unlocks give thim this huge advantage so everybody wants to be the Seal or SAS...so the autobalace is necessary. I think when people get use to it, it is going to be even better.
For me there is one issue with the balancing in the SF maps and that is all the attack choppers. Alot of the maps allows for two cappable flags that produce attack choppers and once one team has both of those the balance is thrown right out of the window. They are hard to take out and can dominate a map when used right (i.e. together). There is barely enough equipment around to deal with them one at a time and no jets to shoot them down...
I think the chaos is more pronounced because the maps are more complicated but there does seem to be more opportunity to get into gunfights rather than being nuked by a passing vehicle. Some of the maps are positively dangerous for vehicles as it is all tight and twisty...
I have noticed that it is often harder to stay with your squad in SF simply because of the complicated nature of the maps it is easy to get lost or run into a dead end...
Overall, undecided whether I like the new maps more or less than the old...
Well teamwork was never part of BF2 for me, since when i wanna kill silently, my teammates give our spot away...same with SF, i function better in night maps, and alone, able to take out squads with no problem. Everyone plays different, i had a friend last night playing on his own account, he kept gettng killed over and over. Noob? Yes i told him to watch his surroundings and use minimap, i had to point out enemies for him.
When he saw me play, he would try to spot enemies for me lol, told him "2steps infront of you" both rounds he watched me play i had 100+ points with ease.
Maybe some of you are good in squad base game play, other can cause havoc alone.
The only disappointment I have with special forces is with level design. I have rarely used any of the new equipment. Given an urban setting the night missions have a lot of light even in the dark making using night vision optional. Admittedly the black and white thermal vision in the apache is useful. Grappling hook and the zipline seem optional aswell. If they created capture points that made using these devices extensively a must it would have greatly enhanced the experience. Instead a big building have two ladders? why not remove one and make using what you have important. How about a flag with little cover shrouded completely in darkness with no light sources near by other than the sky, night vision becomes crucial. Or a flag that the only way to get to is using grappling hooks and ziplines. With focus on infantry they certainly downplayed the new toys. There are some really dark spots in some of the maps with which to hide in. Even vehicles can hide in them but with all the lights around your best bet is to just play as normal as if none of the extra options are even there. The leviathan map would have been great if grappling to the top if the sub hangar actually had an opening to zipline down inside the building!
I would have loved a really dark night map with the same kind of expansive space as el alamein from bf42. Have a flag in darkness and others wtih light sources. I think DICE took the popularity of the city maps from vanilla bf2 and tried to hard to make city maps interesting. Where is the imagination for truely great ideas for the new equipment?
SF is very chaotic. On the rare occasion I hook up with a squad's server, I have a ball, working within a squad. I'm unorganized, so I don't keep track of servers. Is there an easy way to do this? I think there's something in the game that allows it. I use the VOIP and announce my self and all I here from the console is, "Negative" or, "No way man." This is gay. People don't want to use the VOIP. That's why I stoped playing AA, no VOIP!
The new maps dont seem to be thought out as they were in BF2. Not one has a really nice atmosphere. If you go on bf2 and fly over dragon valley or go around sharqi peninsula. Its very well done but I really dont like how almost every map is just using recycled buildings. I dont mind that much but for example ghost town just seems more awkward and small than karkand was, and if you stick your head out for 3 seconds you get it sniped off.
I really liked how the maps were big and had a 'normal weather' style atmosphere. It seems every map is either gloomy skies, night time or yellow. Like each map doesnt really have a border. Night flight for example its just a bunch of buildings place on flat land, I know its an airport but still.
New vehicles and weapons are great. Grapling hook and zipline are very usefull but night vision and teargas is somewhat pointless.
I mostly feel that all the new maps suck because I guess I havent had a really good game on them yet or maybe its just I was really impressed with BF2. We all want CQC fights but we also want large awesome looking maps with nice atmospheres where we can travel to another built up place to have a fight rather than be stuck in one tight spot with like almost no restrictions for armor.
Over all I have gone back to BF2. As I love my unlocks and finaly get to use them.
The Karkand 2 map is better than ALL the new maps put together.
I think SF is great. Sure you have recycled buildings. But some are way different. I liked the Asylum eerie atmostphere. Some buildings I don't understand. I took like 3 ladders up to an empty room. It didnt go anywhere. I tried to blow the grate with c4 and nothing. Not sure wtf thats about.
Night maps are awsome. Reminds me of Splinter Cell which I love! The gas mask r0x! I like wearing it around. Gives it a different feeling then Ice Cream does. Zips r0x! I love zippin' over to a rooftop and takin' a sniper out.
Somethings sUx as well of course. Seems guns are way to accurate. I can kill in like 3 shots. I mean yeah thats kool but, I liked it better in Ice Cream where it was like will I kill him first or will he get me. Makes it more exciting. For some reason on hills if you run into some rocks you get all stuck and its hard to manuover around them. Snipers seem to kill in one shot as well.
But, its well worth the 30$! New maps and toys cant go wrong there. Quads!
Yeah, i find myself playing as SAS a lot as well just because of the F2000. I swear with that thing I can actually KILL stuff on FULL AUTO. Oh yeah, the Grappling hook rocks also. The choppers seem to handle kinda funny, especially the HIND, but I am still very proficient in them. The best map for the choppers is on Ghost town. Is it just me or do the choppers missles have a larger splash damage? It seems to be easier to kill infantry now.
Now some of the things that irk me are the fact that over half of the new factions don't get any new weapons. At all. Also I don't like how now when a new round is started, the teams and squads don't stay like they were in the previous round. Makes it A LOT more difficult for a good squad to stay together.
I have mixed feelings about SF. I enjoy it but only for a bit. I seem to get bored more easily and frustrated because of so many snipers on this map or spawn killers waiting for you on the roof. I've racked up a lot of kills and gotten a couple of veteran medals but I see more and more hoppers and tank whores.
I think some of the urban maps are great (all I play in vanilla BF2) but as someone mentioned above humping for 5 minutes to the other side only to get killed within seconds, stinks.
The only map I have a gripe about is the Iron Gator. Luckily the server I play in (SFR) has removed it so thats made it a little more enjoyable.
Weapons are good but SAS has a clear advantage on unlocks and the guided missle (RPGs suck, not long range and has drop, on the plus side its not detected by tanks).
Thats all I can think of. Overall the game is ok. I am playing more and more the vanilla maps again. Can't wait for them to release a patch allowing us to play any map in the BF2 and SF library without having to close the game and open a new one.
Well teamwork was never part of BF2 for me, since when i wanna kill silently, my teammates give our spot away...same with SF, i function better in night maps, and alone, able to take out squads with no problem.
I keep seeing people bragging about taking out whole squads alone. Especially Snipers. Who are you kidding? I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just highly unlikely and probably rarely happens. People should probably stop patting themselves on the back for it.
Short of an artillery strike, a squad stupid enough to bunch up so one claymore, grenade, or c4-pack can kill them all I don't think you are doing alot of this.
Oh, did you mean squads with like 1 or two people in them instead of 6? Well I guess then maybe. Or maybe you meant with a tank instead of that M95 that takes a second to reload after every shot.
One thing is for sure - you certainly haven't done it to any squad I've ever been in. It's not hard for 6 guys to pinpoint where you are after a couple of them have bitten it. And what did you think they were going to do once they respawned? Back off and leave you alone? They'd be tripping over themselves to stick a grenade up your ____.
And besides, how do you know it is a squad instead of just a bunch of players on the other team? Your tracking software paints everybody on the other team the same color. Maybe you haven't noticed that.
The only scenario here taking out squads consistently would be possible is in some type of very close quarters like Kharkand where the enemy is basically funnelled into your position, down an alley or something. And then you can only do it with an MG,preferably PKM, as long as your barrel doesn't overheat.
