    Analysis of BF2:SF (Mature only)

    Heyhey,

Before we begin...if you're crabby and in the mood to flame...please go somewhere esle.

Okay, I've been playing BF2 for a couple of days now and I'm happy with SF, barring the usual bugs, but there's something bugging my about it and I'm not sure if it's because of the maps I'm playing or if it's the learning curve.

With Vanilla, it was fairly easy to jump into and rack up points. However, I found it Vanilla got stale pretty quickly unless I was playing with half decent opponents and a good team. So much so I joined a tournament.

With SF, the confusion factor seems to be a lot higher. What I mean is, people are all over the place and there are fewer commanders and I haven't come across anyone using voip. Again, I haven't been playing much, so that's a factor, but I wanted to know if anyone else is having similar problems?

I've played Iron Gator, Devil's perch, and few others. I find on maps like Ghost town, it's too easy to get killed, and killed from any direction.

What's your feeling? Or do I need to put in a good 8 hours to get the feel?

You dont know the maps so you have a disadvantage, never mind it you will get used to them. You say you die more than other ppl, it means that someone is getting more kills, so you just have to be on the other side. Practise, and use your brain. When I started playing BF2 vanilla I had 0,89K/D ratiom now I have 1,3. I started plane riding with crashing and crashin all over again, yesterday I made a 27-0 run. Same thing with choppers.... its the first game I was able to control a heli FULLY and know what I'm doing while I try to coordinate myself.
    Good luck.

I only played SF twice : The first night i had a great game good team work and everybody put in there bit and we kicked ass, i thought it was fooking great.
Last night i played with a bunch of retards, and if you asked me what i thought of SF last night i would have said its a pile of ****e.
If you put in 8 hours make sure its with a good team player server. I find i get the best games with All seening eye play on local servers and get to no some of the guys and you'll get a good game.

I'm afraid I'm not in the same boat as you. It was perhaps the first day, and that's just because I hadn't play BF2 in over two months. Partly because of FEAR, Quake4, and COD2. However after that first day I was back on top getting at least 40+ points per round.

I agree that their is some confusion, but that has always been in BF2 and it hasn't changed in SF. For example, the other day me and my friend joined late on a server playing Warlord. We chose insurgents because as usual the majority of "good" players always wanted to be SAS. And me and him we're pretty much the only squad doing anything( taking flags, killing people, trying to do something other then just be in fire fights at the last spawn). We were able to cap a couple of flags and minimize the damage, but we still lost with SAS over a 100 tickets left.

I think my biggest beef with the game is the lack of weapons introduced into the game. Why? because everyone wants to be SAS now. Just like in BF2 everyone usually preferd to be USMC. SAS is the only new team to get almost all new weapons. I think their would be better balance if other teams got new weapons instead of the old MEC defaults. However, I do love the AK-101, definitly prefer it to the F2000 hands down.

Ghost Town is a versitile map. To me, its the Karkand of SF, great urban battles. Ghost Town only seems difficult because you probally again haven't played it much. Their are alot of snipers and alot of choke points where you'll turn a corner and find multiple enemies. In Karkand everything was straightforward, in Ghost Town it seems like it is harder to get off that perfect shot.

So basically, again it only took me about day to get back into the "groove" of BF2. I think SAS is a little unbalanced and the other armies should have gotten new guns. And of course Ghost Town is my favorite map, just my thoughts.

I agree, in the map Ghost town. there is to many APC's and tanks, and everything every time you go around a corner you get killed by somone in an apc.

I can relate to your frustration. Since our server has not switched over to SF yet, I have been stuck playing on public servers. I am sure most frustration has to do with me being sheltered by playing on our own server that we keep the retards to a minimum. If I did not know better I would swear that a whole new army of noobs just bought the game and were checking it out. Sadly I have come to the realization that this is precisely why I don't like playing public servers.

When I get onto a clan server and it is admin'ed - and has good players - SF is a damn blast.

My gut feeling is you might just need to find a more challenging server with a better class of player.

Re: Analysis of BF2:SF (Mature only)

Disclaimer: No I'm not an EA fanboy, I never played Battlefield before BF2 either so sue me :)

I've played a bit of SF and so far I'm in love. I think this game really punishes the lone wolfer without a plan, the team with no organisation and the side with no commander a lot more than vanilla. Lonewolfers still seem to be able to succeed if they're smart (snipers staying at ground level instead of heading to the obvious rooftops for example). However, perhaps moreso than vanilla, teamwork and when I say that I mean real teamwork, gets rewarded oh so much more, not just in success but in immersion and fun.

              Maps
Overall I'd rate the maps very highly, looking more polished and yet more gritty at the same time. 100% more atmospheric than vanilla.

              Weapons/Gadgets
I'm quite happy with the new guns, perhaps there should have been more but I think too much emphasis is placed on loadout at the expense of far more interesting parts of the game
Best weapon: F2000 or the SCARs perhaps or maybe the Mp7
Best gadget: they all rock, Grappling hooks and ziplines make this a truly 3d-infantry game
Most missed Weapon: VSS Silenced Sniper Rifle maybe....something to spice up the Russian/Rebels/MEC

              Models
I love the new accents/voice packs and player models. Even though they don't get any new weapons, nothing pleases me more than playing Russia or Rebels. Those maps seem so much more poignant, when you're playing Rebels (which I'm assuming means Chechnyan) I seem to play with desperation and passion, when I play as Spetsnaz I tend to play with a bloody-minded and ruthless efficiency. Odd but I never had that in the original. After watching the tv series "Ultimate Force" I thought playing the SAS was a dream, the accents, the different terminology and models all rocked.

              Vehicles:
Technicals and little beat up cars rock, so much fun. New desert raider looks the goods but am I the only one who thinks the audio files for all the vehicles is a little fubared? The technical, which looks like a pickup, sounds like a Toyota Prius...thats electric-hybrid for the luddites. Choppers fly a little funny, the HIND seems to float a bit laterally. Boats seem harder to maneuvre now, and the rockets in the Longbow seem a little quiet. The jet skis also sound a little underpowered and not at all like hte sounds in the demo movie (in fact nothing does :S)

Good Bits: Player Models, the guns that there are, vehicles, maps and tactical shift
Bad Bits: disconnection bug, no water splash on bullets, pathetic sounds, some weapons lacking variety.

I agree, it probably has more to do with the fact that everyone is still running around trying to experience the new maps and play with the new toys.

I do find SF to be more chaotic (which I like). I think this is mainly do to the fact that guys can hit you from so many different directions. For the most part, on the vanilla maps you know where the bad guys are going to be coming from, but with grapples, zip lines, and so much water, it's hard to know. I find myself always looking over my back.

I had a great VOIP squad on Leviathan the other night and it really made the game for me.

When ppl start playing in squads like in vanilla I'll do that alot. As of now, when many go solo, I just hang at one area and take the lone wolfs out one by one:) usually get about 25-34 doing that.

Squads are still the most fun though if there are a decent one in your team.

I definatley think that SF favors squad play. I dont just mean joining a squad and running around either, actually working as a team. It plays a lot faster than BF2 and is more confusing but after a few days and you have learned the maps it seems to surpass BF2 greatly. The key is knowing the maps and joining a good squad. Plus you really cant beat the grappling hooks and ziplines, they are a lot of fun. IMHO.

                        [Crap Absorption Module]

I went ahead and installed that thing just in case anyone comes in here flaming. All of their BS should get sucked right into it, so it'll keep any nonsense out of the regular discussion. Just remember to empty the bags every 2-3 days or it'll start stinking.

I'll send the invoice for the work later today.

I find SF better, not to rack up points, but about getting killed it's better , in vanilla you got killed by arty, jet bombs, tank whores, things you couldn't do anyting about, now in sf it's infantry stuff, no bombs on your head and many places to hide for artilery .

doesn't mean I get killed a lot offcourse

I saw the words "mature only" in the title, and thought there were gonna be tits or something.

                            Im disappointed.

my experience with vanilla was that it was to MASSIVE, running huge distances just to get killed by who knows what from who knows where on the last street to cross. in SF its more compact and more about finding the good spots and spotting the enemy before they spot you. and like someone said above, they can come from anywhere. its a matter of knowing the maps, a feeling of where would he most likely be coming from, and controlled action. dont just spray but take out an enemy without another one seeing you or getting a clear shot. its more about TACTICS and THINKIN what youre doing and what the enemy is doing. its more about SKILL in SF

at least, thats how i see it.
in vanilla i'd be lucky if i got a score of 50,
on SF i average around 60 to 70 on a server with more than 30 people and playing from the start of the round. once i even got tied for gold with another player at 60 while i joined the match half way to the end and he was already on 25 or something.
