Re: Found a website about BF2 lag

The "start /high ..." -bat thing fuxored it up for me.
When I'm running bf2 started like that, i experience horrible lagstutters
      for about 5 secs every minute or two. (athlon 3000 / 1,5 GB / 9600Pro256 )

But i was expecting that as tweaking windows memory mgmt or priority ctl usually ends up being a pain in the ass.

It appears the punkbuster tip was best for me!

        Great tips!!!!!

I've been doing the PB_sleep thing since BFV...it certainly helps!!!

Remember that setting the priority to high will affect other background applications that you need to run your peripherals. So for me, when I set BF2.exe to high priority, my mouse and my nostromo start acting funny.

I haven't tried renaming the .exe file, but I'm certainly going to give it a try now

Re: Found a website about BF2 lag

I've been noticing alot of tweaks lately for BF2 in terms of increasing performance ... anything from 3rd party drivers to simple windows configuration -- we really need to get a combined post going that could be stickied in the support section.

He's always had good tweakguides for this game and others as well as for your OS, drivers, etc.

BTW, if you run the pbweb.exe in your PB folder (especially if punkbuster has been updating lately) before running the game, you will notice a difference in lag since the client is not having to try to do it while you are playing. As far as renaming the binary, I don't really see how that would help and I'd be wary of running afoul of anti-cheat organizations...but then that is just me.

PBWeb.exe is outdated [ no longer supported ] -- the only thing you can get now is PBSetup.exe

Found this out yesterday when trying to update my punkbuster.

I had heard about evenbalance phasing out support for pbweb.exe but last time I looked I couldn't find their new program; however, after you posted I went out and checked and sure enough its out there now:

                  Thanks for the heads up/reminder.

Changing the AGP aperture size can have a detrimental effect over generally gaming performance if you don't have enough RAM to compensate for the extra given to the graphics card.

For one you are practically illiterate, which explains why you couldn't read the 512MB minimum requirement for RAM on the back of the bf2 box.
