Re: 'Marathon session' advice and tips

I have played for 12 hours and it felt like 2. Just had a 2 liter of diet coke, some snacks and a couple packs of smokes...and a couple ash trays - lol.

Normally I don't smoke inside, but a couple times I just open up all the windows and have at it....which is funny now talking about it because I quit smokin 2 weeks ago.

Only breaks I took were to take a leak - didn't even realize how long I had been playing until I went to get another snack in the kitchen and realized I had to turn the lights on downstairs....lmao.

I usually don't plan on marathon sessions, its just that when I happen to hop up to take a leak and I am still have not showered or eaten...and it is dark out...I realize I am in for the long haul - LMAO

I can only do long sessions if its a cold rainy day outside or I have been out doing something in the daytime.

Long sessions on 30 degrees celcius days will make you feel worn out and feeling like ****. That's why my BF2 playing is likley to go down alot seeing as it is summer over here now.

But when I do long sessions (5 hours for me) I only ever eat fruit such as mangoes and strawberries. Get creative and make a smoothie in the map changes, see if you get beat the load bar lol. Drink water or something low in sugar other than coke or soft drinks such as orange or apple juice. Also don't play in a messy room or on a messy desk. Makes you subconciously ****ed off.

BF2 is pretty easy to do long sessions in, there are these handy breaks for map loadings and such. 5 hours is not too difficult.

I have a friend who played Tie Fighter for about 10 hours WITHOUT GETTING UP! He started playing when we got up and was still there when I got home from work.

The true marriage killer is Civilization. Any version. It's turn based and no action but I've done 8 hours at a stretch, I mean sitting. No motion at all. Totally engrossing. Don't book anything for about a week. I usually go to bed about 6:00 so I can say that I didn't play until the sun came up.

Re: 'Marathon session' advice and tips

I've been a marathon fan for years, my longest stretch was about 32 hours 1vs1 on Duke3D. I've played about 24 hours with Tactical Ops (FPS pretty similar to CS), and my BF2 record is about 18 hours.
I've had severe shoulder injuries twice, which resulted in me havin to stay away from work or computers for a month - but after the second time I bought some ergonomic equipment to keep my elbows in place.

Now, what's all this talk about healthy food, you bunch of health freaks :p
The only thing that keeps me going is either a beer/potato chips combo, or coke and candy like chocolate, jelly gums etc. Smoking pot is the best for online gaming, when high you can sit there for hour after hour without ever getting bored!
Diet coke and fruit, you guys are crazy - I need lots of sugar to keep me going!

                  I normally play BF2/SF about 4-5 times a week, and every time I play it's for about 5-8 hours straight. It's either a BF2-evening, or a non-BF2 evening :p

The trick to keep the interest and fun up is to be a squadleader, and always make sure you've got a good teamplaying squad. I always name my squad Teamwork, and try to keep a squad of 5, so there's one spot free for any team-oriented players. Kick the non-teamplayers and the punishers, and you'll have a blast. With a good squad, there's nothing stopping me from playing, apart from having to catch the last train home, or if the server is emptying, or simply if I'm getting too drunk/wasted to keep my eyes up.

beer will do, just make sure you have something to eat too, otherwise you'll get too drunk and get owned all the time. go on boring evenings/nights with the next day of so you don't feel bad about not going to bed.

play with a friend, so u have someone to talk to

This is one of the best arguments against weed I've ever seen.

For the Most part people on this particular thread are talking about what to eat while playing which is awesome i think in my opinion the best tip give out side of food for playing long hours is to find maps that you can enjoy . I find it frustrating when i get on a map with the domintion of the map is from the same people no matter what side there on. So find maps where the experinace levels is slight above yours to where you have a chance to win it. I play on all different types of maps dont limit yourself to one server play on mulitiple servers get a feel for what is out there. I find when i play on european servers that i have more fun then i do on local servers. The people are different and the atmosphere is different they dont complain about baseraping , stat paddling, tank whoring, tubing or what ever the case may be i say if your bitching about all those things happening then you can not play yourself learn every aspect of the game. Right now the thing that is making it fun for me is that im trying to get my verteran knife badge and my expert spec ops i have all the requirments for the badges except the kills and its taking me for ever becausei have to find knew ways of gettign my kills . you have to be sneaky or if not better be good at it PRactice Practice. is all i have.

my most played was 16 out of 24 hours. Funny thing.. i can't remember it really.. just know from my stats.. i know on the weekends i will play sometimes off and on all day. (log in.. play 2 rounds.. log out.. come back in 2 hours.. play for an hour..repeat etc) the time flies on BF2. i mean.. you play two rounds and suddenly you realize you have been sitting there over an hour.

                              Just a little advice...
During the time a new map is being loaded... get off the chair and take a little walk around the house. This way you could tell if someone's hasn't broken into your house while you were immersed in bf2 as well as decreasing the chances of get DVT in your legs.
