    'Marathon session' advice and tips

The longest I've played in one sitting is not very much, prob 2 hrs or so, but I find it easier on the body and mind if I do the following:

    - Make sure my arm and wrist are at a proper angle to the body etc
    - Have eaten before the session
    - Have a little stash of soft drinks or alcoholic drinks just to keep me busy in the very few "You are seriously wounded" breaks

What do more experienced players do in order to keep playing hour after hour after hour...? I guess they just suck it up or they just enjoy it alot more than I do.

It would be interesting to hear your tips for long sessions infront of the computer:) so please.. enlighten me

The longest I managed to play was about 3 hours (total already 200+ h BF2). To play even longer would be not so healthy, I think. Or maybe I am just a BF2 n00b

I dont recall how long Ive played exactly...but im sure its pritty long.

Some tips i can offer for the BF-addict:
-advise everyone in your residence to screw off for an extended period of time...you are now playing bf2:sf... if they want anything done they have to schedule it with you...
-take smoke/bathroom/refreshment refill breaks during map changes
-make sure you have proper computer ergonomics heres a link: http://www.sefsc.noaa.gov/HTMLdocs/C...Ergonomics.htm
-dont just eat candy and drink pop, cuz you will just crash and burn. eat fruit and drink water or fruit juice...and hey...u can attempt to keep off unwanted weight this way too!
-alot of this stuff is common sence I hope...but there u go...a few tips

I can only manage about 3hrs max before my PC takes a nap. Could this happen because my HDD has only about 1Gb of free space?

          3.0GHz P4 HT
          1Gb RAM
          6800GT Nvidia
          Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Thanks for all replies, I'll give a long session a try soon.

I was also wondering, do you guys enter 'the zone'(pardon the lame expression) when you play long shifts or do you find that's easier in shorter sessions to achieve?

Someone mentioned tournaments and I wonder if you guys actually sit and play for x hours straight or if you play one game here, and another one 20 later over there...?

I checked up the BF2s no1's longest session in the last 30 days and it's 15 hrs!! That's just over my head...

I think BF2 lends itself to long sessions because if you get bored of driving a tank after 1 hour, fly a jet, or be a sniper, or spec ops and just take out the enemy's equipment. You can go for a long time before you run out of things to do...

Run defrag about 2-3 times and it should get alot more stable. And yes, maybe a GB or more would help

give your HD more space man, only 1Gb left will result in unstability and slow loading.

                  About topic.
                  - I play 3 hours in one sit with no problems at all
                  - sometimes I even play 4 to 5 hours straight
                  - and it can happen I play 6 hours straight to.

I do have a very ery comfortable chair, wich can tilt backwards, after playing some time, I tilt it backwards so the angle of my wrists and stuff changes, this is good because keeping the same angle the whole time will cause RSI .

Between each round or in loading time I do some excircises, realy you must do that or you will encounter problems later.

                  For example .
                  - open and close fingers with stretched arms
                  - turn wrists around
                  - turn neck around

thanks for the pointers. i'm off to buy a 300Gb SATA tomorrow. I've heard SATA is better for quick loading times?

Re: 'Marathon session' advice and tips

I can't imagine sitting down for multiple hours at a time.

                        What i would suggest is:

                        - Turn off the phone. Last thing you want to do is pick the phone up while your adrenaline is running and yell at the person on the other end. FPSs can build alot of tension in people and can make you more aggressive [I've seen what it can do at LAN parties -- even watched people take it out on their equipment lmao]. Remember to take a short break whenever possible.

                        - Get up, walk around, do some quick stretches and eat healthy foods such as juice, fruit / yogurt & water. You don't want to be loading up on garbage while not doing anything. Map change is perfect for this.

                        - Don't play for extended amounts of time. Take breaks as it'll help relieve the strain on your eyes.

Worst I've done is one of those 48 hour LAN parties. At those you NEED to be eating decent and doing exercises -- otherwise you can get messed right up before tournaments [and its bad to be messed up for games that rely on perception & reflexes].

The best advice I can give is DON'T GET MARRIED. Otherwise you'll end up playing at weird hours of the night and walking around during the day looking like Wacko Jacko.

I SOOO miss the days, when I was single and was able to put in occassional full 8 hour day. Eating pizza and left over chinese food...ughhh.

However, with my metabolism what it is today. I'd probably gain 20 pounds in 8 hours.

                          Recently, if I get in 2-3 hours I'm happy/lucky.

Seriously though, if you want to put in a long session. You'd better play a good map with good players....othewise you'll get bored REAL fast.
