Oh yeah 2 gigs the way to go with such a memory hog as BF2!

    Running my 3500 @ 2.5 with 2 gigs @225/450mhz, GTO2 Tweaked runs real sweet

Now if I could only fine a server without 'glitchers and bad team players"

As for Sleazell I'd check your settings as I was able to play BF2 on my old PIII 1 ghz with only 512 ram and 9800 pro 9xt'd) at medium/some high setting. How's your sound (card) settings?

Oh and Crucial had been using BF2 as an "upgrade sales pitch" showing BF2 settings and benchmarks with diferent memory configurations. Might be some info floating around...I think it was crucial...

I had my documents pointing to a secondary IDE hard drive and because of this, my BF2 profile was loaded on a 7200 RPM drive. My primary drive is a S-ATA Raptor (10,000 RPM) and I've been wanting to switch my docs back to C: so I can test load speed comparisons.... I witnessed little to no improvement in the verifying client data process. I'm sure I got SOME gain but not as much as I had hoped.
All my official testing was after a defrag with Diskeeper and a fresh reboot. I reboot to make sure I'm using as little memory as possible (68MB after fresh reboot).

I love how I run up on an enemey get out a burst of bullets only to lag for two seconds and then have me looking up at the sky. If the 2 gig of ram works I will buy ram today!!!
I'm close to that. I had an AMD 64 3500+ (Winchester), 9800XT and 1 GB Corsair TWINX1024-3200 XLPRO. Been lagging like mad unless I run 800X600 and medium settings, no AA. I've just replaced the 9800XT with a X850XT PE and see some improvement but not as much as I'd hoped. Today I ordered 2 GB Corsair Dual Channel memory kit and hope it'll speed things up. It should be installed and running by Saturday (12/3).

Give the VSFGamer servers a try. We're in the process of setting up a separate server for BF2:SF (should be online today) and have a 40 player server for BF2.

The BF2:SF server IP address is: 70.86.64.146:16569

The BF2 server IP address is: 70:86:64:146:16567
Later today or early tomorrow this will change to: 70.86.157.218:16567

            See you there. :)

Will check out server thanks for the tip. As for your performance jlspence, what kind of settings are you running? Sounds like somethings not working as well as it should be, even with only 1 gig, that XT PE should have been a big jump in BF2.

I would highly recomend the VSF servers try them for a couple of days Then I would add them to your favorites list. Its easy to tell its a good server when its almost always full....Red

In terms of game settings, l'm running 800x600 with medium settings, no AA. I'm running on an ADSL connection. The X850XT PE does an amazing job on CoD2. I run it on high everything.

I second what said around here, the jump from 1GB to 1.5 GB is very noticable.
And from 1.5 to 2.0GB it's also better, but less obvious IMO.
And placing the profile on a fast drive has no effect, as it's only few KBs...
What's long to load, it's the textures.

all I hate to say is WOW. Just put my other gig in, game runs great. Went from semi-choppy at all medium setting, no AA, to all high aa2, with about 25-35 FPS.
