    Re: !!~computer Reboot~!!

The CD Key error is because it appears that CD-key value is written into windows registry, however it looks like this is specific to only the one windows user account (desktop), so any other user accounts (desktops) on the same machine are given a message saying the key is invalid.

It's not because someone else is using your account.

EA says about the invalid CD Key thing....

If you have switched Windows accounts at any point it is recommended you uninstall, reinstall, and repatch using the same Windows login.

It requires you re-install BF2 and re-patch it, but if the problem goes away, we have your answer and your gaming again.

this is rubbish. It wont fix the problem but it wont screw anything up more than it already is either.

Actually it's 100% accurate and I challenge you to prove otherwise. Don't come stepping into a thread and try to debunk someone because you *think* you know what your talking about. Some of us get paid alot of money to do this for a living.

If his computer is rebooting, then unchecking the tick box only hides the problem and does not solve anything. Hence it could cause more damage than before.

I was going to drop it after the last post, but honestly I can't.

First off, I despise people who drop in and give one liners about how something is this way or that way without citing ANY reason for the statement.

Secondly, if you can't be constructive in a thread where people are trying to help others with real problems, shut yer hole and stay out of it. No one needs to waste time dealing with your type.

              Thank you.

Right, ok mister smart@ss know it all IT engineer, great, I am so impressed because you do this for a living. First I deal with you guys on almost a daily basis and having the the title IT engineer doesnt mean that YOU know what you are talking about. My reason for saying it wont screw up your system any more than it already is is this, I have several machines including 2 machines at home were 'restart automatically' is NOT ticked, never has any computer crash damaged anything on any of these machines because of that. If anything, unticking this will give you valueable information on screen as to hint to the problem. having that box ticked actually HIDES information that is useful. There is no reason why this would damage anything.

And I have not heard an actual REASON from YOU as to why this would screw up your system other than we are supposed to just take your word for it because you are an IT engineer. I dont think so.

                  Touche.

I say let the guy try it, instead of scaring him otherwise, if the "automatically restart" doesn't fix the problem then move on instead of trying to scare him off.
I doubt that if he tries it, and it fixes the problem, his computer will explode.

                    Re: !!~computer Reboot~!!

First rule of fixing PC's... DO NO HARM. Un-ticking the little box does nothing to solve his problem. Therefore it is not needed. Changing a setting in Windows without a reason is a bad way to do business Mr. "I deal with you guys everyday".

You can also check the event viewer to see the cause and type of crash and see what the problem was without un-ticking and staring at a blue screen, since you have to reboot anyway genius. Someone who is not computer savvy may not get what they are looking at and most people who ARE computer savvy don’t know what the hell is being displayed on a blue screen. I am sure this does not apply to you though since you so vehemently attacked me over it.

I never said I was infallible nor did I ever state I knew everything and or that I could fix the problem. I was trying to help the guy, and when someone like you comes in and spouts off, it just confuses the situation and wastes people’s time. You can argue either way as to the stupid little checkbox but in the end, we can make progress without him messing with it and that was my point.

I am happy that all of your computers run and have that little boxed un-checked. You must be very proud and the envy of your friends.

I did not intend for this to become a debate, and seeing as though it's such a big issue over the checkbox, I will gladly step out of the equation and let you guys help him. Good luck. If anything, I have learned not to try and help others, I aprpeciate the insight.

I have the same problem I think. It didn't happen in BF2 though. It happened in another game. I was playing & it just went black as if I just turned on my comp. The menu screen to my monitor pops up & I am freaking out. It never did reboot though. I had to turn it off & then back on. I get back in, same thing. I had just installed the new ATI 5.11 CCC drivers the day before. I figured I would remove them & install the 5.10's. Hadn't had a prob since. Really weird!

First i'd like to thank the guys actually trying to help me...I have shut the computer down for the night (writing on old laptop) and will continue tomorrow. I will take the advice of re-installing BF2 and trying to it on my other user...if does not work, ill continue the investigation.

I of course want to fix my own computer, but i know im not the only one and maybe can help everyone else. And i really want to play again.

Second i agree with the guys saying, that the guy who jumps in for no reason to cause **** is a moron. Im not trying the idea period especially if it has nothing to do with my problem. I would just like some honest help and i am getting it from some cool guys.

So tomorrow is another day and maybe it'll be fixed by the end of the day.

                          I'll definatly be posting tomorrow.

Parish, first, I never said that unchecking the magic box would solve the problem. Second I never suggested to just start randomly start changing settings in Winblows if there is a problem. Yes you can look at the information in the eventviewer. All I said was that un checking this particular checkbox will not cause damage to a computer, all it does is end in a blue screen with information that might or might not be useful depending on who looks at it. And you have still not given a reason as to why un checking this might blow up his computer.

Before anything else he should look at his power supply voltages while playing BF2. If his bootorder makes the computer try to boot from his BF2 CD it will not find an OS and go to the next bootdevice which should be a harddisk.

Well if you have read the post "!!~Computer Reboot~!!"...ill bring you up to speed. I bought BF2 in sept, played for a good month with no problems, then it would reboot and restart my computer....no blue screen, just shut down and began loading windows. i scanned for viruses, but still didnt work. Check my RAM..still didnt work. Anyways...if you read the old posts you'd get up to date.

So one guy told me to make a new user in my Windows XP because it might be a process in my old user that is blocking my game....

Well....i uninstalled BF2 in my old user...went to my new user and re-installed it....on my old user i saved the patch, so i searched it on my new user, found it and unzipped the patch.....( by the way, when you download the 1.12 does your computer restart automatically, cause my rebooted itself right when it finished, much like my game does)...anyways...i go to try and play bf2 and it doesnt even start at all. All i get is black screen for about 5 seconds then back to windows. So my problem has gone from bad to worse....
