Well i bought BF2 awhile ago and got 2 good months of play with no problems. Then all of a sudden my computer starts rebooting itself at different times, usually loading a server. I got the lastest video card patch and instead of rebooting it just shut down to windows. So it kept doing that alot. But then i downloaded the new 1.12 patch and it worked!...for about a day and a half, and now it goes back to rebooting itself.
All other games work. I've read all forums and researched, and when someone has a solution i dont understand what they are talking about.
Does anyone have a step-by-step solution to this problem please. I know im not the only one having this problem. :hmm:

and one more thing...how do some ppl on these forums have their stats below their messages?

I think i can help you out. I think its a system failure, eg. Pc overloaded, not enough Ram, Pc overheating ect... Could be a heap of problems.

I think this should fix it.
(I assume your on Windows XP)
Goto your desktop, right click My computer and goto the Advanced tab and goto the startup and recovery section. Then click settings and untick "Automatically Restart".


Post results here.

Oh and about peoples stats, Head to www.bf2s.com and when you post your stats, you can use em in as your signature.

*** BE forewarned, doing what he suggested could cause your system to completely fail and be trashed requiring you to recover/re-install WinXP. Feel free to do it, but just wanted you to know that. Im a IT systems engineer and I swear that his advice WON'T fix your problem, it will only hide it and let your system get messed up even more****

Well, my comp do almost the same....play since august with no problem,but recently started to give me some problem.
Let me explain:if I start the comp with the cd of Bf2 in,it would not load windows,and shut down.If I remove the cd it start fine,but sometime if I put the Bf2 cd in to start play, it reboot the comp by itself.
Any idea about that?

Im not sure if im just computer illiterate...i dont like to think i am...but when i right click 'My Computer' it doesnt say anything with an 'advanced tab'...is there a step missing?
maybe im just stupid...lol

To Zagor. Quite strange, i start up with bf2, but my pc states "Boot from cd " as if it an xp cd, but it obviously doesn't. What operating system are you running ?

ok, well i just read Parish's post, and i dont want to ruin my computer.

I thought it might overheating...but then i did alittle experiment and took my cover off my tower, opened a window...i'm from canada, so its about -10 celsius right now and i got a jacket a hat and **** on, waited alittle bit, then i tried it and same problem.

But last time it happened i sent an error report to on Windows..and it told me my reboot could be causes from a virus, and i didnt a virus check and did find a virus and got rid of it...then tried it and same problem still.

It bugs me because i had this problem before for about a month, then got patch 1.12 and it worked great yesterday and this morning.

What programs are you running in the background ?

Could be a system / pc problem. If your really desperate, you could try a fresh instal of both bf2 and Xp.

Try running Adaware SE. I remeber my old motherboard was faulty and whenever it overheated, it would restart. I also noticed on some other peoples machine, they had screen savers that were running, for some reason it would make their system restart.

The problem with situations like this is that it could be a hundred things causing your problem. Can you be more specific as to what's happening when it crahses? Is the game just dumping to your desktop and your fine or are you playing in-game and the whole system reboots? Are you getting blue screens? Does it always happen at a certain point or only during a certain task like playing the game?

As far as the booting issues, your BIOS may be trying to boot from the BF2 cd and just getting hung and not moving forward. If that is the issue, unless you make a change in the BIOS, you won't get around that. The BIOS setting in point is the boot order.

Again, without having yor machine in front of me to trouble shoot it properly, I can't amek a determination of the root problem here. I will however, do what I can from here.

I did reinstall BF2 back when i first had the problem and it didnt fix it, but i havent reinstalled XP.
I know the programs that run are Norton Anti-virus...which i should just get rid of cause it sucks.

I've never had other restarting problems besides this. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500....maybe its not good enough, but i doubt that because i've played a good 2 months with this card without problems.

As parish said, it could be hundreds of problems causing this. I doubt its a video card problem likewise.

Yea... I don;t know if it will help any, but get rid of Norton. It sucks for gamers.

Well when it reboots my screen just goes black and the next thing i see is windows starting up, and the sound of my computer starting...no blue screens. It usually happens when i am loading and joining a server. But did happen once when loading BF2 and going through the EA Games introduction.

Im not sure what BIOS is, but i have heard and read about it in other furoms talkig about this same problem.
