ok, well I got it to patch after clearing ot 3.35 gigabytes of space. I've been playing online for the last hour or so. Try that.

I had the exact same problem and i posted a thread here with the 1.3 error that needed 1,5GB i belive it ended up with 5 pages of suggestions that didnt help.

My only fix was that after quite some time i managed to free up space but now having 3gb min is impossible.

SO bottomline is the patch is target at your C:/ Drive and unless there is a proper way to get around this no temp folder changes or anything will work its just lame stupid patch coding.

I cant patch, there is no way i could free up 3gb in any of my partitions. Damn it. Why is there a need for 3gb of space when its just a 200+mb patch?

EDIT: Ok, i managed to free up 3gb, but the set temp command doesnt work this time.

Is there any possible way to fix this? or does EA not care about the few of us who have our C:\ drives setup for windows XP and cannot free any space at all?

i have 638 mb on my C:\ left and i cannot clear anything else.

Yep thats what i thought but then i couldnt wait anymore and went into my system folder and started deleting 1.5GB of some random files. windows works for now but idk about leter. Oh yea its not just 3000kb that you need its more like 3250 kb.

I completely killed my game trying to clear space for this damn 3000gig requirement.

I was clearing out temp folders to make space (at 2.3 gigs available) and I think I deleted the previous patch files for BF2. I didn't know BF2 had registry files on C:, I mean, they said temp! What makes it worse is that I threw out the manual when I first got the game. So now I have no Cd-key and can't re-install, especially after the 1.03 patch encrypted the cd-key on my computer (I also cant system restore to the date before that happened)

I can't believe a chain of events that bad could happen so quickly.

Fix for the "3 GB" problem -- kudo's to encBlood for finding this trick and wopper for advertising it on planetbattlefield.

- Click the start button and click "Execute".
- Typ "regedit" (without the quotes)
- Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
- In the right window doubleclick "ProgramFilesDir".
- The value of "ProgramFilesDir" is probably "c:\Program Files". Change this to a drive with at least of 3 GB of free space. For example, I changed it to "D:\Program Files" (I did create a d:\Program Files folder just to be sure).
- Run the patch.
- After you've patched BF2, make sure to change the value of "ProgramFilesDir" back to "c:\Program Files".

Yep, dat works.....and it's not execute

Just press the windows key and "R" at the same time to bring up the run dialog and type regedit.

I only have C: for windows, i have bookoo drives for everything else, and my C is only 3 gigs total, so i'd have to format, then i have no OS. Anyway, it works, have fun.

i deleted some stuff from my comp, so i had about 3500 megs...
And after the paching, i still had about 3300 megs of free space....
What do they need the 3 gigs for?

You need the space to decompress files. The space doesn't change before and after the patch but it should while the game is being patched. It's needed to decompress all those 500Mb zip files you have in your /bf2/ folder.

I watched my c: while patching, at most it dropped 200mb so freeing up the 3gb is just utter bs. EA/Dice, get your head out of your a$$ and hire some testers with half a brain.

Thanks for all your help people. I took the plunge and reinstalled/reconfigured my drives. Was a long time coming anyway (time had come to flush the toilet). This patch was just the straw that broke the camels back. If I'd read this post that may have never happened.

This should be stickied or something imho (if it truely works). Seeing as the last one needed 1.5GB, this one 3GB, I have a sneaking suspision the next will need more.
