oooooooh the big man  you couldnt burn your way out of a forest fire lol

hahaha rf8406 - your condescending attitude only belittles your cause

let the fanboys have there bottle - they're going to need it when their servers all dry up in a couple of months... the funny thing is - if this game was so good, they wouldnt have to be so foolishly and fervently defending it because at the end of the day quality speaks for itself - not fanboys wanting more full servers

rather than flame the messenger boy you should have just come up with a review of your own rf... then you can tip toe around the things this game lacks - effective dynamic lighting, proper bump mapping, refined player animations etc etc etc and just tell them all the good stuff.

Best thing put him on your ignore list like I've done, it's a waste of my life reading the drivel in his replies.

Anyway, here's me with a 'panzerfaused' soviet on my mediocre set-up. Rather unsatisfying kills actually, if you get my point. beats bf2 animations fore sure though.... Oh, Jimbob?! I've got a question for you! Does any mod change the way vehicles blow up or anything like that?

Why don't we wait for a few official reviews before we judge the game, Mind you even if it gets rave reviews I imagine a few would still belittle Roost.
Just my opinion mind, I might be wrong ^ ^

                      Re: Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

According to BestBuy.com Red Orchestra is finally out. It says the release date was 03/22/06, so maybe they just took a while to update the site. I haven't actually checked the store yet, but since it's on the site I'm going to go get it today. And I'm on a fresh install of Windows that's making my SLi finally work like it's supposed to. Yay!

Well, I bought it! I kinda like it. Hard to get used to the controls and having to reload etc but overall I like it... except... that it crashes my computer! It doesn't play nice with any sort of overclock at all it seems. No other game has been freezing on me at these OC's. Oh well. Pretty hard game though. I like it, for the most part. Not as fun as I thought it'd be but I'll give it time.

i wouldnt say they beat them for sure lol... not sure what you mean by your question as it is quite vague - mind being a little more specific?

                        jimbob out

EDIT: if you mean different particle effects and light effects for the explosion (in that, making them different from vanilla) then yes - AFAIK most of that can be done in the editor and through coding. currently when a vehicle blows up it does its initial scripted blow out involving default effects which converts it to the wreck model with the wreck texture. it then blows up again eliminating the model from the field (so as to reduce the amount of models having to be built onscreen. you can edit things so wrecks stick around and whatnot but then it comes down to CPU usage.) to "change the way things blow up" would be simply editing the effects for the initial and secondary explosion and then if you really wanted to make things cool you could script different sequences to run concurrent with the different impact zones (perhaps a large explosion if you hit gastank for example)... pretty much anything is possible with the BF2 engine - you just need the know how.... and with its dynamic lighting and several different texture effects you can make things ALOT more perdy than some other games

any of this make any sense to you?

if i could take one thing from RO it would be the MG tracer round effect - all tht richoteing kicks a$$ hehehehe

Hmmm. This is a hard game! What exactly is the point? Other than trying to stay alive? I see artillary and hear planes but I don't understand how any of that is being done. And I see control points being taken over, but I don't see flags and there's no minimap to point me in the right direction. It's just huge maps and one shot kills. It's a cool game and looks great, but I don't understand it. Yet.

Yeah I went crosseyed too when I tried it out. Remember the developers has got a fetisch for realism, it makes it all easier i.e. you die when MG fire rips your limbs off et c......... You can also be removed from the battlefield if your legs are too much shot at too. If both your legs are red in the damagemodel you're pretty much useless anyway and are thus removed as a normal dead guy.

Arty and planes are just for the atmosphere, different maps have different atmosphere. In Koenigsplatz the krauts doesn't have arty since theyre overrun et c.

control points are really points/areas which you'll have to control, see it as the flags area in bf2 butjust without some flagpole standing there in war torn Berlin for example.:)

No mini-map for a ww2 realism game? not really surprising really

Maps doesn't feel that huge after a while, they tend to have routes which the firefights are concentraded at. In stalingrad, try to flank the enemy through the buildings. It's really satisfying pulling such a tactic off and then pop enemies in their back

good luck and dont give up!

It certainly is hard to get to grips with after playing months and months of BF2, that's for sure. No UAV's in this game

Fortunately I had played the mod' before this, so I had a pretty good idea what it was gonna be like, except they've added a lot of new stuff.
