Re: BF2 players more stuck up?

I've never heard a single person being abusing over the Battle Coms. A little bit o smack talk, but no abuse.
This suprised the hell outta me. I was skeptical about the built in voice for that very reason. I suspect that it's because only your own squad can hear ya. Pointless to insult each other on a squad level 'case eventually you're likely to NEED that person.
I did kick someone outta my squad last night because he was generally useless and his preformed form of comunication had a lot of *s in it. Still, he was just, er, dumb not abusive.

Most of the time the abuse was flying was either because people where joining a Squad then not playing as a squad or they where being abusive about the commander, most only sounded like 13yr olds who just found a pube in there pants and thought they where grownup only to find it was a peace of fluff. :)

I personaly would love to join a working Squad, but most I get invited to just want me for my high score (when I play well) and are not playing as a squad just want the squad score.

          *shrug*

It's not THAT hard to play and type, if I'm careful I can type while flying a helo or while flying a plane. I type fast though so it only takes a second for me to get my message in and then I can get back to killing.

As for TS and Ventrilo, yah I use those for clan play and such.

We have constant in squad chatter on our Server - Raging Rebels Ranked. I also make a point of responding to any ingame type chat that I see if I am in a position where I can respond without dying. Keep trying mate, you'll find some good servers. I know ours has regulars who have become friends, which only increases the amount of chatter amongst everyone.

I don't think they're stuck up. Lots of them (like me) are too focused on combat and relaying relevant information. Unfortunately, we still get guys that fill the comms with chatter and comments at which only the commentor laughs. The problem is getting people to listen to relevant information and act on it. Maybe 10% of my playtime is with attentive and team-oriented players.

Re: BF2 players more stuck up?

Honestly I think that it's because:

1-The gamers that play BF2 are more mature than the CSS/etc, etc. gamers. For the most part

2-It's kind of hard to type or talk when you are flying a chopper/jet

3-Battles are intense and they dont want to break concentration

                4-They have no mic

5-They cannot read the microscopic text on the screen

6-90% of BF2 gamers are already talking on Ventrilo or TeamSpeak

The 6th is my personal reason, I dont need to say too much to people that aren't in my squad...

We are guilty sometimes of just talking on TS. Sometimes we may only have 1 guy in the squad not on TS and unfortunately he can be forgotten about. So if you join our squad on Raging Rebels Ranked 1.12 make sure you shout out and reminds us you are there.

Yah, I guess its not really them being stuck up, but I do miss the chatter a lot; I use to meet interesting people in a ton of games and thats how I would find good community sites or a nice clan; but with no talk in BF2 its hard for me to find any people to play with; which in turn makes me not want to play because not having a friend to hang around with and do stupid yet entertaining things with is half the point.

Playing alone in a server without talking and just using these annoying radio commands gets boring, any suggestions on good servers that actually have nice people?
How about you look for a clan to join. Thats one of the main reasons I did. I had this game since day one. Was having the same problems as you. Instead of trying to find server after server to find great people to play with, I decided to join a clan. Great move too. Have great friends that we get togther and play. We go on our TS to talk to one another. If you are interested come by and take a look http://affclan.com/

I dont talk at all on VOIP, even on TS i dont talk much.
Why? Its coz i cant multi-task dammit

Staying alive and killing the enemy takes all my contentration. The only time i take out to chat is to abuse others for intentional TK's.., even then its in text .. usually straight after im dead :P

Mind u i do use the commo rose quite often for thanking team mates and saying sorry for accidental mouse farts that end up in Tks then i expect someone else to abuse me LOFL

I'm guilty of chatting relatively little while playing BF2. That's a little different from the last game I played (Black Hawk Down)... IMO, BF2 is much more intense that many other games like it. I suspect most players are concentrating too hard to worry about the chat.

I will say though, the in-game chat interface could be easier to read. You have to pay pretty close attention to it to keep up with what's being said. I'm not good enough to play and do that...

Yeah. The good teamplayers who are in clans generally rely on TS or Ventrilo to communicate and leave other squadmates wondering how they are working together so well.

This has been posted a thousand times but - try creating a squad named "VOIP" or "Voice" or something like that. When you get a few players who utilize the VOIP together ... you can do major damage.

On another note, I have seen less and less people use the in-game VOIP nowadays. Go figure.

BF2 has too fast tempo in it. There just isn't time to chat.

Re: BF2 players more stuck up?

No time to chat on the keyboard, anyway.
Thus, get yer damned mic out!

I use voice in BF2 more than I have in any other game.
Seriously, it's the way to go.

In direct responce to the title of this thread; Yeah, I think BF2 players do tend to be a bit more stuck up. Not because they don't bother to chat via text, but because many of 'em carry an attitude of being a supiriour gamer because they are thinking players. BF2 supports being a smart player much more than many other games out there (*ahem* CS). Thus, they get snotty when confronted with someone who "doesn't get it".

                                Me, I'm guilty as charged.
                                :p
