If I'm outgunned and I take for the hills, I might jump ONCE. Maybe.

Is Battlefield 2 a military simulator? No. It's just a game. But it's a game that's structured as closely to real life as it can be, while still maintaining it's entertainment value.

Jumping is a tool that allows the player to more readily traverse difficult terrain. That is its purpose. Bunny-hopping is abusing that tool by using it for other than its intended purpose.

Not to mention that it seriously detracts from other people's enjoyment of the game. Nothing distroys one's suspension of disbelief faster than unrealistic behaviour of a realistic figure in a realistic environment. It's a crutch for people who can't aim well with a mouse.
 I love you man... I agree to an insane amount...

I have never seen any soldier jump up and down in combat situations (source discovery channel) nor have I ever heard of this tactic beeing used in training soldiers

I totally agree to servers that kick ppl for that, IMHO most players over 12 years old play for the realism of the game and not for finetuning their stupid quake jumping skills.

I love simulation (of reality) games; bunnyhopping is not realistic.

Aside from that all I think most of us including poster of forementioned quote (and me) would curl op in a little ball or dive for cover, be it with or without wetting their pants in the process, when someone takes a shot at them.

Dear god, do you people play in clans?
I know that I'm going to get flamed for this, But STFU! Don't come here crying if someone knows how to exploit the system more. More tricks you know = The better you are. This "Honour" that you all play for is fool's play.

There is only losing and winning. No cheap win or honor lose. If bunnyhopping can get a upperhand when playing againts people like you, then I will hoppedy hop my butt smooth.

By your logic you would use hacks if you knew you wouldn't get found out.

          Stfu, scum.

            Wow.

It's a videogame. Not war. You don't have to be so competitive in all aspects of life. Especially not this one.

Bunny hopping just remindes me too much of "Tribes"

My problem with bunny hopping is at long distance they can get away from me shooting them...even tho I have a 27% accuracy rate.

And 2 If they use bunny hopping along with superman they are just as accurate as you are while crouched...ghey.

EA should just put a 1-2 sec pause between hopping to prevent this sort of "Tribes" like behavor.

Bunnyhopping and other lame Tactics that "Exploit" the system are why I LOVE the NEWB TUBE. Instant death in my hands...bunny hop that you ***.

How dare you besmirch the name of Tribes!

Bunny hopping is nothing like the long controlled flights in Tribes!

Hehe.. actually, that's a rotten example of why bunnyhopping doesn't belong in the game. It's a well known fact that Tribes was a big source of insperation for dice while they were designing the BF games. Check out the nod that was made in SWL. Hmmm... jet pack. I'm wouldn't be shocked to see a disker in one of BF2's expansions!

No... Bunnyhopping reminds me too much of Quake and the rediculous (yet infamous) "rocket jump". Ugh. Talk about sillyfying a game!

Now, if DICE had emulated the Tribes grenade launcher, we're be set.

                    Er... without the auto fire.
                    And 30 rounds of ammo.
                    Or the space aged design.

Clans are known for exploiting a game engine to the max in order to win, no matter how lame/cheap it is. The people who ruin this game are the ones who think high score = fun.

But oh, I wish we had the timer!

Honestly, they'd probably implement your list first.

                          And you'd be shot, too.

But I promise, you wouldn't want to do that. As soon as rounds started coming down-range, you'd go for the nearest cover you could find. Your sense of self-preservation would take over.

                          That's why I really can't stand bunny-hoppers. It's a completely unrealistic behaviour.

I'll not even go into how they modeled people jumping six feet. Try it yourself. Each battlefield participant can leap, flat-footed, the hight of a grown man. Makes you wander what DICE was smoking.

Re: Bunny Hopping and Exploiting the game

I think bunny hoppying is perfectly acceptable. I mean, when I was a noob and first started playing the game I hated it. I assume that is because I was more enamored with the graphics in the game than the actual game play. I would look at a landscape and marvel at the beautiful tanks and the lighting effects and shadows on the soldiers and then I saw a fool bunny hopping and it made me laugh. The more I played the more I realised the scenary is not what makes the game fun, its the tactics that people use, and how you manage to predict what the enemy is going to do so that you can stay one step ahead of them. Now there are times that I choose to bunny hop, and there are times that I choose not to. Some nights bunny hopping doesnt work so I dont do it, and some nights nothing works but bunny hopping so that is what I use. Other tactics like using cover and UAV to move and sneak behind the enemy are just as effective if not more so than bunnyhopping, yet noone complains about them. I mean comon, in real life is there a UAV to show soldiers on a minimap, while they are fighting, exactly where an enemy is and where they are looking. noooooo. It is a game and I like that fact that there are many different ways for ground forces to stay alive. It not only makes firefights more exciting because sometimes you cant simply just pop the enemy in the head, and it makes their chances of surviving against armor better, as they have more options available to them in order to avoid death.

Re: Bunny Hopping and Exploiting the game

It would be so simple for DICE to code that you can't shoot when your feet don't touch the ground!

Of course most people do it now, because you can!

But make it impossible to shoot while in mid-air and that would keep most people grounded.
Hopp around and someone would just go prone to nuke you.

This would make for a more realistic feel to troop movement.
We know this is just a game but some like their game to be as real as possible.

Personally this is the only tweak I want...
Just looks lame when you get kill by someone who is daulphin diving but as yet to hit the ground!
Kind of hard to get a good shot without a foot on the ground in real life!
