also..i just tried playing with max frames set ahead set to 0 and im not sure what i got was mouse lag or just beginning stuttering, but can u clearly define mouse lag?

Thanks for reading the posts and I really appreciate the comments, but please remember, these are tips and tricks for MY pc and and the way I play the game. Having said that isn't it great!

i'd just like to see one or a few of your ingame shots. i have a system fairly identical to yours. amd64 3000+, 1gig 3200 ram, pci-e 6600gt. you're able to play while using a lot of things set at high. i usually play with everything on medium and AA4x. your setting to "0" really helped in smoothing things out alot. so i'd kind of just like to see a ss to compare with. thanks.

I have the 3400+ and the 6200, but all the rest is the same. I really need to fix up the gameplay but I dont really want to try it, I have bad luck with computers and something will most likely mess up if I dont know what im doing.

Personally I only saw a 1.5-2 fps increase when turning 'Render Frames Ahead' to 0. I didn't notice any difference in the minor choppiness I get while flying way up high and coming down into view of the terrain.

Turning up my refresh rate did nothing for framerates either.

The biggest difference I saw in any of this, was when I OC'ed my vid card.

I did about 3 tests on my comp too see if it made any difference for me. BF2 video settings listed from top to bottom of the menu, you'll have to look at your own menu to see where they exactly line up, but they are in that order. I went into Oman, stood on the same spot on top of the hotel (give or take an inch or two) and looked at the same spot on the crane with the medic unlock rifle, when I got done with that, I'd jump in a jet and fly around in and out of view of the ground to see if I noticed any jitters.

First test:

72 FPS: Render Ahead '3', Refresh 60, 1280x960x32, M/H/M/L/L/0/0/0/M
74 FPS: Render Ahead '0', Refresh 85, 1280x960x32, M/H/M/L/L/0/0/0/M

Second test:

61.5 FPS: Render Ahead '3', Refresh 60, 1280x960x32, M/H/H/M/L/0/L/2/M
63 FPS: Render Ahead '0', Refresh 60, 1280x960x32, M/H/H/M/L/0/L/2/M

Third test:

67 FPS: Render Ahead '0', Refresh 60, 1280x960x32, M/H/H/M/L/0/L/2/M, Overclocked 490core 932memory (stock 450core 850mem).

The overclocking seemed to make more of a difference for my framerates and ability to run other options 'on' in the game than anything else, on my computer at least. Hopefully others with similar systems as the guy who posted this have the same luck he has had :)

My relevant comp specs, for those who mite have the same type of system and want to know what they mite expect from it:

Two things that have helped me A LOT (I posted this in another thread too):

1.) Turn off Anti-Virus software. This alone eliminated about 90% of my crashes to desktop. I think there was a pretty significant conflict between NAV and BF2. I've since removed NAV and installed AVG. I unload it from the memory before playing, and notice much smoother gameplay.

2.) Upgrade your cooling. BF2 is a game that makes my video card HOT. I'm talkin' sizzling. I placed two intake fans on my case, but the GPU is still getting so hot that it affects gameplay. I get stuttering every so often, and sometimes it still crashes to desktop. My temperature logs show I'm maxing out in the high 80's. I've ordered an Arctic Cooling unit for my 6600GT, and I'll let you guys know if it helps smooth out the stuttering.

A lot of talk about nVidia cards here. Anybody have tips for an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 meg)? I don't have any performance complaints, but I'm also running at mostly medium settings. I've tried updating drivers, and for some reason, that always breaks things (can no longer run ANY games, BF2/HL2/FarCry all fail to run, scrolling in Internet Explorer slows waaaaay down, etc). But with my 18 month-old drivers, things work fine.

I'll recommend NvTweak(formerly coolbits) as opposed to Rivatuner.
It basically applies registry tweaks to allow more advanced settings in your control panel. After using both, NvTweak is my choice.

Hi, I spent a little time trying to find the best settings to play BF2 on for my system. Of course this 'guide' is specific to me but will help others. For starters, important Sys specs:
* AMD 3200
* 1 GB of PC2700 DDR
* 128 MB GForce 6600 GT graphics card
First things first:
Read this: http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_5.html
It details all of the video settings and what's the best ones for you.
Then, for Nvidia cards, download and install RivaTuner20RC157 from http://www.Guru3D.com. It's a software overclocker. The GT class of video cards are highly flexible when it comes to tweaking.
Then download and install: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=462
This will unlock additional setting within the Nvidia drivers control panel. (Read up on the website).
When you've installed it go to the control panel for the card and navigate to 'Additional Direct 3D settings'and set the 'Max frames to render ahead' to <o> (Zero) Default is 3
Basicaly this tells the graphics card not too look ahead 3 frames at a time but concentrate on what you're looking at. If you have the recommended spec graphics card and RAM then this will not be a problem.
Also set the Refresh rate to the highest your monitor will support. The default is always 800 x 600 @ 60 hertz but this is crap, set it higher, for instance 1024 x 768 @ 75 hertz
I now run the game with:
Overall Quality: Custom
Terrain: High
Effects: High
Geometry: High
Texture: High
Lighting: Low
Dynamic Shadows: Medium
Dynamic Light: Low
Antialiasing: 2X
Texture Filtering: Low
View Distance Scale: 100%
No Lag, no stutter, great vision, Great fun.
Of course this is not the definitive and there's lots more out there, also, this is for MY pc but it may still help yours

/\/\/\ maybe he plays on 32 or less servers? i doubt he'd get good FPS on 64 servers. i notice i get an FPS boost whenever i try smaller servers (not that i need it)...

I had fine tuned before but this did allow me to go from low to medium on 64 maps with geometry H and View Dist at 100%. PNY 6600 128m OC'd at 399/602 was my first big improvement. Second was taking an old 80g HD for BF2 ONLY, with XP and network to run it. With your info I took it bit further and can do highs on 16 map. Thanks for the help!
