Probably. You aren't going to get a virus unless you're actually surfing at the same time as playing. Your firewall stops nasty people from 'hacking' you but in reality if you have all the XP updates installed and you don't have any P2P or other such programs running then you should be ok.

Firewalls stop people accessing your machine but in order to do that they need to target a program with a known weakness. This could be an ftp server or something in Windows.

Personally I turn off my firewal and anti-virus while playing as the lag I get with both on makes it difficult to play.

Just for interest, 'verifying client data' takes 22 seconds for me, how long does it take for you?

Sounds like things may be getting under control here

I ALWAYS disable ZoneAlarm before I load BF2...or ANY online game for that matter.

A router is all you really need to keep you safe.

In the past 20 minutes everyone I've found with the "Network Data Corruption Error" all said that they had to wait for about 5 minutes for the data to verify.

Whatever is wrong it's something on your system. Either RAM (try memtest tonight) or a config somwhere.




If you are running XP, go to device manager and expand 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' Right click on 'Primary channel' and choose properties. (Primary is usually the channel you HD's are connected to)

Click on the 'Advanced Settings' tab, this will show the devices connected to that channel, and their current speeds. Virtually all modern hard drives should be running in Ultra DMA mode 5. Maxtor's on the right chipsets run Mode 6, and most CDrom drives run Mode 2. Any HD's running in PIO mode will seriously affect loading times, as this is the slowest speed possible.

2) How to fix...
XP will slow down the speed of devices if it receives errors while using the device, until it gets to PIO mode. This could be due to faulty cables, device or drivers.

First thing to try is simply change the the transfer mode to 'DMA if available' and reboot. If that does not fix it, uninstall the controller and reboot. XP should reinstall it and reset the fastest transfer speeds. You could also try both the MS drivers and the chipset manufacturers. (I had to install the NVidia drivers on my NF4 chipset, to fix IDE problems. I have also had them cause problems on my NF2 chipset system, so try both)

got it up i got dma6 cd/dvd is dma2 my speed is only 59.4 when the theoretical is 133.0?
