We were hacked. Several times over the past two weeks, in fact.
While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.
Reguardless of what you think you have observed, the facts remain the same.
You get a -4 for a teamkill. There is no score hit for a punish.
I checked up on this last night. I did a real "DOH!" TK, so I flipped up the score sheet and watched. Sure enough, there was already a -6 there (I hit him twice), but when the punish came (I knew it was coming) there was no further hit to my score.
Remember that you also get -2 per incedent of team damage. Since it takes an average of 3 rounds to take someone out, you end up with a -8 for a full teamkill. -2 twice for the first two rounds to hit 'em and -4 for the kill. That's a fat -8 all together. This is also the most likely case of TKing that will result in a punish. Your mate was at full health and you blew him away perty damned straight. Yeah, he's likely to be ****ed.
After about 10 minutes of testing, Wargimp's post is an accurate account of the current TK/punish model. I've the screenshots to back him up if anyone further doubts him.
The only thing I cannot show is that it's possible to get two team damages on the same guy in the same incident. I've no idea if it is possible.

I think things are different now. Loads of servers have their own way punish system in terms of - points.
Ive noobed a person and got a -8 in total. - you dont get team damage when you noob.
Im also TKedd two people in an attack chopper and got a total of -16. Even if you include vehicle damage it wont total upto 16.
But I aint seen a -8 in a long time now.
Again, I want video-proof of this. I remember, for example, seeing a tank with a driver and a gunner run over my mine. Neither got out, but one punished. My points were taken down to -12 IIRC. There's no other way that could have happened. I can remember countless examples like this as I check my score/points frequently.
I think in the beginning it was -2 for 50% damage and -4 for punish. I remember alot of complaints about it and I think the change was made in the first patch. could be wrong though.
Ok... since you guys are such doubters, I just spent some time bouncing from unranked server to unranked server acting like a complete *******. I TKed a bunch of folks, blatently and intentionally just to evoke punishes.
My score did not change once in any case of punishment across 5 different servers.
I don't have frapps or any other vid-capture client, so I can't post video proof.
You may take my word for it or go try it for yourself.
Either way, it's simple a fact: BEING PUNISHED DOES NOT HAVE ANY IMPACT ON YOUR SCORE!!!!

Well then 1) You and everyone else here is lying as part of a mass conspiracy the reason for which is yet to be discovered 2) It was changed in the patch 3) EA has secretly captured me and planted memories in my head to discourage me from teamkilling 4) I have a very odd form of insanity 6) Servers can set exactly what punishing means but nowadays almost none take away points.
Either way, points or not, punishing is still inappropriate when used regardlessly. It increases someone's odds of getting kicked, and that is still bad.
I think we're gonna have to go with door number 4.
:p
I just finished pouring through server settings looking to see if I could find anything that you could toggle to enforce a score hit on punishes. Nothing there either.
This is the way it's been since the first day I started playing, BTW. It was one of the first questions I asked and no-one managed to answer properly, so I tested it.
As I mentioned in the vary first post I made in this thread, there is one thing that confuses the issue somewhat. It IS possible to get slapped with teamdamage before getting hit with the TK. Certain weapons (most notably the G3) cause enough damge per hit to envoke the -2 TD penalty. Thus, if you open up on an unhurt teammate and drop him, you could be facing a total of -8 (-2 + -2 + -4 = -8).
This makes a good argument for getting better with headshots. Atlest that way if you mistake friend for foe, at least he'll go down with a single round to the skull.
