just trying to point out that NONE of these are lame and people need to get over it.

can u imagine how awesome the bf2 community would be without scrubs? that'd be some hardcore competition, right there. whereas now, a large number of gamers are being scrubbish and it just means that theres no challenge in pubs. ive virtually stopped playing th egame now as i couldnt find any way to improve, because all the scrubs would just whinge complain and then die the same way evertime i encountered them.

Anyway, on topic...is 'playing to win' really worth it if in doing so, you're bored? For example, what if there was a nuke the commander could drop in BF2. He could drop it over and over all day long and easily win. However, everyone would get bored (included him) and the game would be crap. He's playing to win though, and he's found a tactic which works! Doesn't mean he should use it though, does it? (and if you think he SHOULD do that, you're a lost cause and there's no point in this discussion.)

The important factor I think is missing here is that we're playing a GAME. For FUN. Whereas that article simply takes 'real life' examples.

Sure, some people are too sensitive about what is cheap and what isn't. But there are things you can do which, while will let you win over and over, are boring for yourself and all involved.

I think a great example is hacks. Imagine if there was an option in the game for you to turn on an aimbot. You could just sit back and click a few times, and everyone has been shot in the head. But you're doing what it takes to WIN, so it's okay, right? No, because you won't be having fun or have earned that win, and nobody else will be pleased either.

And, to conclude, I have fun in a game on BF2 even when my team lose the round. Since having fun is the purpose of playing a video game, did I really lose after all? Is it worth enjoying yourself less and having less of a fight, challenge, etc. by resorting to very repetitive tactics and 'cheapness', to win?

I say no. And so I will continue to not fire a grenade launcher into someone's face at point blank, continue to not camp spawns in a tank, and continue to allow the enemy to take off from the airfields instead of constantly bombing them. I'm playing for the enjoyment of fighting and playing, not to win at all costs.

People complain about things like the n00b tube and tank whores because they feel it destroys the strategic aspect of the game and, ultimately, some of the potential fun the game can offer. You can argue all you want that they complain because they are jealous, scrubs, etc. but that's just your opinion. You can't read their mind and can't be certain that's the problem.

Here's a specific example. I think jets are overpowered in this game. You could clame that I feel this way because I'm a scrub and should be spending my time mastering the best weapons of the game (and wait in line for a plane with the other 20 players). My problem is that, they are so overpowered, they make the game 1 dimensional. Basicaly, if you use the jet you "win" and if you don't you "loose."

One can see how overpowered jets are on a map like Wake Island. I've played on teams where 50% of the players are waiting for the jet. And why shouldn't they? The winner of the map goes to the team who has the best single jet fighter. The other 60 or so players are superflous.

You can call me a noob or a scrub or ignorant all you want. But, looking at it from my perspective, this sort of imbalance threatens to make the game no more complex than tic-tac-toe. And honest, who brags about pwning at tic-tac-toe. There's a reason for that.

and if you werent meant to be able to swap sides and get ppl kicked for TKing by running into their fire and vehicles and chasing their nades you wouldnt be allowed to do that either. its in the game so it must be ok.

By the authors definition, BF2 TKing for vehicles would be absolutely acceptable, and "stats padding" for him would just be a grey area.

Why? Because the Dice allowed it in their game and EA doesnt punish enough.

Personally, I think the author is |CCC|Planewhore's alter ego.
