          Re: Weird freeze problem

You’re not alone! I started having this problem last night as well.

I was able to play yesterday afternoon without a problem but then last night about 15 second after I join an online game it completely freezes. Task manager shows my cpu at 100% and BF2 as “not responding.”

I downloaded 1.03 the day it came out and haven’t had any problems till last night. I uninstalled the game and downloaded 1.03 again last night and am going to reinstall the game when I get home tonight but now seeing that other people are having the same problem, I doubt it will fix anything.

Does EA have some sort of automatic update in the background or something because the last time I changed anything was when I installed the 1.03 patch weeks ago.

Has anyone heard anything or been able to fix this? To no surprise EA hasn’t released a statement about it but has anyone seen any kind of official word about this?

Any help would be great. I need my fix of “Battlecrack”

          My basic specs are:
          AMD 3500+
          MSI 6600GT
          2 GB RAM

          Thanks

            Re: Weird freeze problem

Dont get the impression that problem is the same as ours. His game freezes after 10 minutes whilst ours all freeze after 12 seconds.

Maybe its hardware related so lets see if we share similar components:

            MSI K8N Neo2 mobo
            AMD 64 3000+
            1gig Corsair Value (2x 512)
            Asus V9999GE (6800)
            SB Live Value!
            Logitech MX518 mouse
            Saitek Cyborg Evo joystick
            120Gig Maxtor HDD (IDE)

Cant see any other component that would have anything to do with BF2. I'm running the game @ 1280x1024 @85Hz. Performance setting with only Effects/Geometry on High, no AA and low on most.

Do any of you have a same component?

              Re: Weird freeze problem

Cutch has the same problem; I forgot to mention about my CPU, it shows 100% usage when this happens.

              Hardware:

              Mobo is MSI, RS480M-II
              AMD 3500+
              X800Pro
              250GB SATA
              onboard sound
              crappy mouse
              no joystick
1Gb generic RAM that came with the PC

Same problem here. I never had any problems with BF2 either and today when I installed latest ATI drivers this started happening. So propably in my case the problem is the drivers.

                  Heres my specs too anyhow:

                  AMD Athlon 2200+
                  Radeon 9600 pro
                  200 GB Samsung HDD
                  1 GB RAM

Well this over at the AMD forums sounds like our problem, but it was posted nearly 2 months ago:

The AMD Community is entering an exciting new phase—growing into a broader ecosystem of dedicated resources designed to better support and connect you.

Can someone reply to this thread who has an AMD processor and has played BF2 ONLINE TODAY and had no problems. If only to rule that out.

AYAYA, do you have the same lock-ups 15 seconds into a map?

                    Cheers

Yes I had the same ~15 sec problem but I think I just fixed it. And as I suspected in my case it was the drivers. I uninstalled the drivers, ran Driver Cleaner and installed them again. Then I tested it and it didn't freeze anymore.

But Sacuni that thread is from July/August. It's weird that this problem only started occuring for us last night.

One thing I did do this weekend was play 'HL2:Lost Coast'. You guys didn't happen to install that this weekend did you? (Just shooting in the dark again)

Same thing started happening to a friend of mine last night.

He is running the latest 5.10 Cats with an X800 (of some sort..unsure which model) and an AMD64 CPU witih 1 GB of RAM.

I was playing fine but he was locking up every time we tried to play last night.

He tried using Driver Cleaner and re-installing the 5.10 cats but to no avail. His temps are ok.

Man..I'll BET it's PunkBuster...it's REALLY been screwing up lately.
