    Weird freeze problem

I have never had any problems with BF2 - until last night. Suddenly the sound started stuttering, then it just sounded weird and then all sound dissapeared followed by a total freeze. Since yesterday i haven't been able to play BF2. Exactly 12 seconds after a MP game starts and i select a spawn point - it happens again, excactly the same pattern. No probs in SP and other games - and it only happens when selecting a spawn point and entering the map. If i stay on the spawn screen nothing happens ?????

Tried reinstalling both game and GFX drivers (Cat. 5.10). No heat issues at all. For years i have had the most stable system. Never before a lockup in a game. Why now ?????????

XP Pro SP2, X850 XT PE, 2 gig ram, audigy 2 zs. Patch 1.03.

    Re: Weird freeze problem

OMG Same thing happened to me last night. Played BF2 fine in the afternoon, but then in the evening shortly after joining a server game would just freeze. I haven't been able to play since.

What the hell is going on. I updated punkbuster, didn't help.

What could have changed, NOTHING changed on my pc between the game playing fine and now freezing.

I came here and searched last night, but found no-one else with the same problem. I figured the next thing was to try re-installing the game :-(

    AMD 3500+, X800 Pro, 1 gig Ram

      Re: Weird freeze problem

I haven't got a clue what's going on. I have NEVER had issues with any games. It's a bit spooky.

I can play BF2 SP and create a local server without any problems. This error has got to be network related somehow. Never seen a total freeze of a PC before because of network problems though

I also manually updated punkbuster and a lot of other stuff. It doesn't help to reinstall so dont bother. Clearing cache files wont help either.

Do you have any Mcafee products installed? I have them disabled when playing, but maybe they updated something?

          Re: Weird freeze problem

Well I've been getting the exact same since earlier this morning. I got so ****ed off I completely formatted the pc and with a fresh reinstall the problem persists!

Now that I see more people are having this I'm starting to wonder what the heck is going on cause if its not something I can fix then we are pretty much screwed till someone figures out whats going on!

Weird thing is I just joined a game of Dalian Plant and it ran fine for 20 minutes. I join my favorite Karkand only server and it happens over and over again.

Did you try different servers or same server?
Do you connect with ASE, directly or via ingame browser?

          I'm running:
          AMD 3000+
          Nvidia 6800 (81.85 forceware)
          1gig ram
          Win XP

Crap. No, I tried about 5 different servers last night, joining directly from in-game browser. All the ones I normally play at, maps were Karkand and Wake.

What on earth changed, you're in Holland (jpvv) so I'm guessing you don't use Verizon DSL lol.

What sound card do you have Sharp ?

By the way, i have tried every possible combination of video setting in the menu. No luck. I'm starting to think it's sound card related ..... but why the h... is it only in BF2

                      Re: Weird freeze problem

Normally I connect via ASE but I just tried it via the ingame browser and exactly after 12 seconds after spawning it locks up completely. Im starting to wonder what these people at EA did now, cause this looks like something they have messed up again.
And no I'm not using Verizon, I'm on Tiscali ADSL.

Using: SB Live Value. Oldie and works like a charm, how can it be sound related if it always worked fine?

This game is so incredibly buggy I wonder why I ever bought it.

Onboard sound, didn't try any other games, and I'm at work, so I can't test anything :-(

But what could EA have updated without a patch?

                          Re: Weird freeze problem

Well I'm very sure its not something on my end since:

                          a. I didnt change anything to begin with when problem first popped up
                          b. I formatted pc and did clean install with latest patch/drivers
                          c. They are notoriously retarded when it comes to providing a stable game
                          d. They dont even have decent customer support (cant even create a frikkin account on that website of theirs to contact them)

Do any of you have a customer support logon to report this mess? Also I only see 3 people including myself that have this problem now. Noone else is having this?

                            Re: Weird freeze problem

Just tried fiddling with sound setting it to software, medium quality, whatever. No luck.

Yeah, what the hell happened, and why are there only 3 of us. I´ve been googling like a madman and nothing similar shows up.

I sent a support request a long time ago to EA regarding my BF2 account. Never got an answer ...

Hahahah, tried to log into EA forums - "An error in the system has occurred. Please contact the system administrator if the problem persists." Then it gives me about 40 java error messages.
