ya i would have to agree with a previous post that when you realize you saved some one else its a little gratifying (as much as a video game can be) also if you dont spot enmies your a waste of the class and might as well be one of the fools shooting the noob tube

For those who say snipers arent effective and are not team players and dont belong on sqads etc. You are dead wrong.

Today on Wake Island and Sharqi my 5 man team obliterated others. On Wake Island my team sniped on a hill next to each other taking out everybody nearby and at the enemy base nearby. We then sent two men out to get the base and we would walk past that base once we got it and went onto the others. Our 5 man squad alone cleared out the whole of Wake Islannd ( not carrier ) and got all the bases for USA. We did the same only harder at SHarqi.

Now if cleairng a whole map of oppoents with only 5 skilled snipers on two maps in two rounds and pretty much winnign the game for the team isnt contributing then i dont know what is.

how do snipers contribute? mostly by distracting the enemy and taking a lot of lead.

I can see occasionally sniping to take a few minutes and play kind of quietly. But some people will snipe all the time, never getting more than 5 kills, and not contributing anything to the team. No spotting or anything.
And taking up a slot that a non retard could be using and actually helping your team.

snipers let me think...

ways commander can waste artillery...good knife targets...not much a sniper can do tbh other than annoy and **** off people, distracting them from the rest of the enemy..

I love how people who have never been a sniper think they have a clue about what snipers do, it so obvious the one time they spawned as a sniper they ran straight at the outpost and then wondered why there rifle only had single shot mode when they died.

LOL Yeah, I noticed a lot of people making snide remarks about snipers being worthless are just armor/jet hoes... armor-whoring is so easy it's boring.

We use snipers as squadleader all the time.

If used offensively a good sniper can move with the squad hanging back (as mentioned previously) which usually means he doesnt get killed quite as often as the rest of the squad while getting alot of kills and allowing squad members to spawn with him at the same time.

Personally I believe that a sniper working in a squad saves a ton of lives by taking out the odd infantryman that would otherwise be firing say some 100bullets at the other squadmembers given the chance.

On Wake one time our sniper stopped a full on infantry assault against the airfield killing some seven guys with the chinese sniperrifle and to back that up our whole squad had respawned in the meantime and proceeded to capture the beach flag.

Call it deliberate, call it lucky.. It was a wonderful round nonetheless and it convinced me that snipers can have a valuable place on the team if handled properly :)

Good note on snipers as SLs.
I've been doing some thinking about that subject. Snipers are about the only class that habbitually hangs back from the action, and thus do make good spawn points... sometimes.

There are a couple flaws in that, however.
1) Snipers often find tight places to hide in that are too cramped to spawn in. You click on him, hit done, and nothing happens.
2) the action shifts, but often snipers don't want to give up their hides. This can result in you being stuck waaaaay back from the action.
3) spawned squadmates can give away the sniper's location. The spawn and bolt right into battle. It doesn't take long for the enemy to figure out something's up and go looking for the sniper.

All that can be offset by smart players, of cource, but how often can you count on your fellows being smart? :p

Sniper class isn't my favourite but when I got the post 1.03 unlocks I got the M95 as one - mainly because I'd been impressed when I relieved an enemy sniper of one and was able to use it to kill a heli pilot as he hovered to cap a flag.

So every now and then I play sniper and I'm never going to be a great one but I found I could be pretty useful even so. Playing Chinese at Dalian I parked myself in the hills overlooking the middle rear base - the one that if the USMC get can be used to bottle up the Chinese in their airfield. It was extreme range so I only got a few kills and damage assists, but the compensation was that no US guys ever spotted me and I had a great overview of the area. As that rear base is one the US need there were several determined attacks on it.

With my zoom view I could see the infantry and armour making their way in and give my teammates in the base plenty of warning of incoming. At one point a US and Chinese elements were each working their along different sides of warehouse and set to meet at the corner. No surprise to my guys as I spotted all the enemy troops for them and they went round with guns blazing.

So there's one way for snipers to be contribute beyond whatever kills they get. If the terrain allows it, which is most of the non-city maps, a sniper can be as good as a UAV on permanent station over a base and in BF2 as in real life the best informed side is usually going to win.

while playing karkand i killed 10 other snipers, players in vehicles and i pick off the other team by long range so other guys can move in. it is also good because noone knows were u are sometimes and it is distracting...... that is if you have the patience.....

Seriously I know Snipers Contribute. I know I Contribute , I KNow Other Snipers Who Contribute and My Whole Sniping Squad Contribute.

Sure not all snipers contribute but the smart and skilled do. No matter what you say you dont have the right to judge snipers when u never have been one. And just because you suck at sniper doesn't mean snipers in general dont contribute.

The smart and skilled snipers contribute a lot. Heaps. Like i said in a earlier post. Its possible to wipeout a whole map of enemies with just 5 snipers so get over it.


Snipers do contribute.
