Snipers are very useful. If you are trying to take over a base you get a sniper to clear it out or scope it out to see if it safe. Also they are great in cal matches, and tournament style playing.

Well Im a rather good sniper, Not boasting, But ive killed over 1000 more people with a Sniper rifle than an automatic weapon of any type.

N Snipers can take out advancing enemy forces before the enemy are even in range of your guys. If you dont take them all down, Then atleast you got a cut down on the forces.

Werent we talking about this yesterday.

Sniping well to compliment a team/squad effort involves spotting enemies, taking out enemy snipers or sneaky guys and defending flags. More than just a guy taking out spawning enemy w/o bothering to help the team take the flag or anything!!!!!

I think a great sniper acts like a local commander on the ground. Having a wide field of view to assist the guys in close combat to get the bigger picture and help take/defend the flags.

He's refering to the fact that I have yet to see you make a single valid, interesting post or say anything that remotely aprouches good communication.

In short, your posts are worthless, annoying noise.

You need to spend less time playing BF2 and more time in school.

            ON topic:
Some non-BF playing buddies of mine and I had a BS session about this last night too.

One of the main issues that came up is that snipers in the real world are great at taking out officers and disrupting the chain of command. Since that's an aspect of warfare that BF2 does not model, it takes away a major element of the sniper's real role.

Not true, I dont play sniper much at all, the only reason I have been playing it lately is to try and get some vet badges other than that I only play sniper if the situation is just right.

I think the sniper class is more of a squad base utility. If you're going alone you won't help and you'll just irritate the enemy whit your bullets. But when you are in a squad ( well what I do) is that I call the target like others snipers or tanks and I bring cover fire to my squad mates. I love being sniper in a good communicating squad. I had the chance to play in one today and it was really great. I was covering my squad from a distant point in Sharqi as we were assaulting the T.V. station taking out enemy snipers and giving tips to my squad leader on how to move whitout confronting tanks or massives infantry. It was very cool

A shortsighted remark and not true. These clans have some stuff to learn then. Try and read Ray Bradbury's short story 'A sound of thunder' and you might understand that *every* action on the battlefield influences the outcome and it is even possible that *one* guy taken out by a sniper turns the tide. Sound unrealistic? I assure you it is realistic. The action in a BF2 round is far to chaotic to claim a sniper or any other kit is 'useless' and doesnt contribute. Every guy I kill as a sniper (or other kit) where I dont die helps my team. The amount of points you get in a round is not always representative of how much you contribute to a win.

And no I am not a hardcore sniper, I predominantly play medic .

I'd dispute this comment as well... but I'll do it without resorting to namecalling ('cause Var makes some very good posts).

                    Case in point:
I made this thread because I'm a usless sniper. Knowing how snipers opperate and what their goals towards winning the round helps me to work with 'em.

I did have a round last night where I was working with a very talented and team focused sniper. No less than 3 times I heared the sharp crack of a sniper rifle being fired, spun around, and saw the body of an enemy still slumping to the ground.
At one point I heard "Gimp, hang back a sec" just over voice coms just before I was about to rush a flag.
                    *crack* *crack* *crack*
                    "NOW! Go get 'em!".
I came in and there were 3 badguys there... sprayed 'em and each went down like paper tigers. He'd managed to get one round into each of 'em and made my job HELLA easier!
                    "Whoa! Thanks for softening 'em!"
                    "Thanks for the teampoints!"

Too bad I can't remember his name.

killing enemy's is helping in battle, and helps taking down the enemy's team score, that's just good

Yes thats the definition of basic sniping. But to be a really good sniper that contributes greatly to the team effort....thats another story.

I'd rather have the Sniper next to me... as a Medic.

I'm not going to dig it up, but I once contended that anyone playing the sniper kit would be more useful, and flexible, if they took their mad marksmanship skills and used another kit. I still stand by that assessment.

I don't have an objections to the style of play that is typical of snipers, but I do object to people using the Sniper kit, which is a joke.

                                Re: How do Snipers Contribute?

If your fellow team players know what theyre doing i.e. not blowing themselves up, planting mines in the wrong locations and not shooting themselves in the feet etc... then a sniper can rack up serious kills and even hold flags.

If the team know what they do then the sniper becomes a good back-up soldier I recon.

So no, usually there are more useless people in different classes that don't know what theyre doing. Saying the class is the worst class or whatever is pointless. It's as general as : "um, people die when they play this class or this":wall:
