    Re: How do Snipers Contribute?

IMO the main contribution a good sniper makes in this game is to get the enemy paranoid. When they know before they even spawn that a sniper is watching, and that the sniper has no problem taking out their buddies right next to them, it makes it that much easier for my team to sweep in and capture the flag.

Case in point: Gulf of Oman, MEC, we had taken the SE U.S. beach flag, and were working on the middle beach flag. As usually happens, there were plenty of MEC APCs and a couple tanks, and they would go in as soon as they got there, tear some stuff up, then die. Of course, the USMC were spawning there like a kicked anthill. Well, I was sniping from a rooftop in the "downtown" area of that map, and I had a clear LOS right into the base we were trying to take. I think I got 10-15 kills in a matter of a couple minutes. People would run out and get on the AA and I'd kill them. They would try to run to C4 one of our vehicles and I'd take 'em down. I saw 2 guys climbing that very short ladder to the top of the bunker and took them both out. A third guy made it up to the top and proned and I shot him in the face (even though I could barely see that far hehe). Sooner or later the number of USMC spawning there thinned considerably, and we capped the flag. When there is a sniper dropping guys at the spawn with no one firing back on him, the enemy soon decides to spawn elsewhere.

The answer is: they don't. That's why nobody uses them in clan matches.

If I never had another sniper on my team for the rest of my BF2 days, I'd be happy.

Although pilots are difficult to take out, the guys in the transport choppers are usually sitting ducks. You'd be surprised how many pilots will fly away once they start hearing shots in the cockpit. Heck... I've even managed to take down a couple of jets.

Last time I checked only one person in a vehicle can capture a flag. The rest have to get out. Only Tanks and APC's are invulnerable to sniper fire, but then again they are also invulnerable to assault, medic and support kits.

Then theres the teamwork classes, medics keep squads healthy and alive, support keeps you tooled up, and engineers fix your vehicles and assets.

All of the above classes can also kill infantry.
None of these guys can accomplish their tasks with a bullet in their head. A decent sniper can take out two guys in a squad before they even realize from which direction they are taking fire. A sniper can also chose which target to take out, the kit uniforms are different enough to pick out different kits at 150m pretty easily. All of the other kits are closer range which is generally a firefight where numbers determine the winner, special forces being the exception.

And they will think they've had a good round (whilst their team lost the round 150-0). There are of course exceptions, but in general thats the rule.
You have no idea what you are talking about.

The few rounds I've sniped I usually go about 20-5, but I just hate being a sniper, it is a total waste of time. I am a team player and if im not helping any teammates I dont see the point of playing.

You would also be picked off four or five times in a round.

I do agree, however, that the sniper class would be much more viable if the M95 were a one-shot-kill weapon. One hardly dares to imagine the chaos.

assault can kill apc's without much difficulty if they get some good cover. stalemate springs to mind. a single man will need to be rearmed but two assaults can take an apc out rather fast.

And Assault, Medic, and Support players are usually in the mix of things - which means they'll probably man a nearby TOW or loose APC, if available. I've never seen a Sniper come running down from the hills just to help out with some armor.

The sniper as an impact player is a myth. Not because the people playing snipers aren't good, but because they're using the wrong kit to achieve the desired results.

That depends very much on what you define as "desired results." I consider imparting as much confusion, hate and discontent as I am able "desired results." And I rarely, if ever, hop into armor because, for some reason, any vehicle that I touch will explode within 30 seconds. I can't figure that one out, but it's true.

                    Re: How do Snipers Contribute?

Hehe....snipers are useless huh? My kd ratio is about 4 to 1 when I snipe. I defend flags, support those taking flags...when that guy drops in front of you and your reloading it was me that dropped him. I dont care about you and your "clan" matches Ive played in and done well sniping in clan matches. I love finding the commanders lying next to there homebase in a shadow somewhere, hehe...they dont know what hit them,...then they spend the rest of the time on the run. I regulary drop the mini gunners in blackhawks and make the pesky attack choopers smoke and fly away so you can live another day. Now tanks and apcs take some cool action, they may role by me but you will know they are coming, and pity the tank/apc whore that thinks hes in a "safe place" to repair, thats ussually the tank you find sitting somewhere with a duffle bag laying next to it. Oh and next time your get sniped by a "useless" sniper tell me it does not bother you or affect your approach, if it does not you are insane---doing the same action expecting a different result....bang your dead again.

I always take out the gunners on tanks and humevees also the people in the back of them are sitting ducks as well as taking out the few people who have gone round you and as you are to stupid to defend are taking your main outpost where all the armour and aircraft spawn.

                        Re: How do Snipers Contribute?

ok im not a sniper mostly either however when i do snipe i am decent.the way snipers help the team win is by taking most of the life away from a soldier they hit fail to kill.
the weapons are so crappy that i mostly never got a one shot kill. hard to hit someone on a run and most people dont stand still to often.

so by hitting and not killing a lot of people it's enabling the rest your team to take out those soldiers a little more easily, wich helps you take a base...

Every class in one way or another's ultimate job is to either a) reduce enemy tickets b) help stop your side from losing tickets or c) both.
The sniper's strength is that you can get relatively high kills without costing your side very many tickets. If you have a 40/4 ratio, and your team just won by 30 tickets or something, you can see how you directly contributed to that =P

I, personally, am a lousy sniper. Fantasticly bad. I don't have the patience or the aim. There's no point in pretending otherwise. Want proof? Check my stats! :p

I'm curious about hearing from some good snipers about how their actions effect the flow of combat in a round of BF2. What is it that you guys are contributing? What sort of actions are you taking that is helping to win the battle? I'm not talking about scores or kill counts. I'm talking about winning!

Again, no condecention implied here. Since I fit the role so badly, I want to at least understand it to be able to work with it. I'm not clueless, but I'd prefer not to state my understanding on sniper tactics... I wanna hear YOURS!

                              Fire away!

Last I checked it was, you just need to not settle for body shots unless someone else is going to mop up the last 5 hp. The problem with the m95 isnt the power its the accuracy at longer ranges =P

if your using the m95 and you can at least manage 50% accuracy, that means every other shot someone is completely negated (unless hes a medic). Speaking of medics, thats another great use for the sniper, is when you have those damn squads that keep getting revived thanks to their 3 medics =P
