DO NOT TAKE THIS THREAD AS A FLAME AGAINST SNIPERS!!!

I, personally, am a lousy sniper. Fantasticly bad. I don't have the patience or the aim. There's no point in pretending otherwise. Want proof? Check my stats! :p

I'm curious about hearing from some good snipers about how their actions effect the flow of combat in a round of BF2. What is it that you guys are contributing? What sort of actions are you taking that is helping to win the battle? I'm not talking about scores or kill counts. I'm talking about winning!

Again, no condecention implied here. Since I fit the role so badly, I want to at least understand it to be able to work with it. I'm not clueless, but I'd prefer not to state my understanding on sniper tactics... I wanna hear YOURS!

Ok, last night I played a 32 player mashtuur map for about 1 hr. I was the only sniper on my team and the other team's sniper was busy in a tank or something. Anyway, I managed to kill gunners in vehicles, tanks and apcs and saved a few lives by doing that i think. also i shot ppl trying to cap flags. and if i didnt kill 'em they sure went down easily w 1 shot of my fellow players guns.

The result of my sniping was that the other team was ****ting themselves when behind a mounted gun and would rarely use them. also i think i managed to increase my fellow players time alive be killing and reporting about enemy movements/activities.

now, in hindsight, i regret not being the commander which would have given me ton of points.

every time i went down i had taken out atleast 6 opponents before

(now i've got the m95 so maybe ill get a few more kills by nailing them through the windshield)

The problem with the sniper class is that your teammates mostlikely dont even know that you just saved their assses, kept a spawn point clean or capt that gunner. Depending on my mood and the situation I choose either my sniper or my support kit. Both favor a completely diffrent playing stlye. While I try to be less visual as possible with my Sniper I often find me rushing at the enemy and dawing some fire from my teammates with my Support class. So dont just generalize "you snipers"

There are two possible ways to fight as a sniper and both of them - if done well - prove you to be a valuable asset to your team. If you are playing the lone-wolf you should find youself some unusual locations and dont move unless you are spotted
(note: the enemy commanders scan function realy spoils the fun - if he drops a arty just for you, change to a active class for this round.)
A good sniping spot is not defined by its greate view but by its cover. If you can over see the whole battlefield then the whole battlefield can see you too. So find yourself a dark and narrow alley where a good margin of the enemy has to walk though and cap you heads there. If you feel like you have been compromised or some whacky support/medic of yours just dropped a pile of bags on you - MOVE!
Enemy newb snipers are the best prey for you so make sure that you check "the usual suspects" from now and then.
If there is nothing do snipe for you, SPOT! spot tanks, spot apcs, spot planes, spot choppers, spot anything in your sight that you cant shoot.
Every skilled player has a "anti sniper sollution" for his class - some(med,spec,ass) will go prone and start shooting single fire, some AT guys will try to "snipe back", Assault might nubtube(*1) you and some (Support) will simply run for you. So make sure you deal headshots and/or they cant guess your location.

If you are playing as a squad sniper - yes, some smart people appreciate a (note: SINGULAR!) sniper in their squad - you should always be 2 steps behind your men and on the watch for any people camping in your surrounding (you are a sniper you should "feel" where the enemy could camp)

If you need to draw back from your current location, make sure to drop a claymore behind a corner(NOT in plain sight) - we dont dant to get shot in the back, do we?

The sniper is a valid and usefull class (if not overused).
- caps turret gunners
- keeps spanpoints clean
- spots red ants for you little blue ants down there
- and sometimes just ****es off the enemy

You will never get as much kills/support like all the other classes but thats not the point of this class anyways. As a sniper you are grateful for any "BITCH" and "Thanks" you get. (Good) snipers are a valueable asset to your team, just because you dont realize most of their help or because you just dont like them doesnt make them useless.

one last thing... the 92FS/QSZ-92/MR-444 is a GUN. So, if you get into a little f2f with an enemy dont run or jump around like a chicken. Prove that you got balls and aim for the head



Note: the game does have a wide range of one-shot-kill weapons nadetubes (M203/GP25/GP30), AT missiles (SRAW/Eryx), nades, mines, C4, DAO-12 .. .there is no good reason why the M95 should not be one of them.

Well theres a variety of snipers. Theres the "OMG SNIPER IS UNSTOPABBLE PWNAGE LOLZ" to the really serious ones who try their hardest to take out a enemy.

When i first started sniping for the first time as a basic n00b of the sniper rifle. I got up the top of that crane on Oman and killed 6 guys and at one time a tank was coming to one of my teammates who was protecting the flag. The tank came along and the guy hit a tank shot at my team mate but missded he then got in the gunning spot . I shot him dead. one shot, one kill . I thoguht it was awesome to save someoens life and our flag. I noticed i had a gift for the sniper kit.

For me i think i help out a lot as i usually aim for the mian base getting the guys who spawn at our enemy mian base and killign them before they can get int he countless choppers, jets , tanks possibly saving 10-20 lives of other soldiers. There are many haters of the sniper but the sniper rifle and the M-95 especially are really good weapons that do indeed effect gameplay and help the team if in the right hands.

I found the sniper kit to be quite useful, even on highly concentrated combat maps like karkland. Spending a large amount of time recently as sniper (trying to get the veteran badge) I noticed that I had a large impact on helping to cap certain flags, mainly those such as the square in karkland.

I took a position far to the flank of the enemy and picked off the many players trying to lay down pkm fire and some snipers as well on the east side. I noticed that shortly after picking them off one by one, they started running to the other side to prone down and thus opened the way for my team to move in the right side (making them take notice by large caps in team speak)

So im starting to learn more and more while playing the kit how it can cause an impact, more than I first thought at any rate.

Snipers Contribute by shooting other snipers. Also some bases are easy to defend with a sniper, u can spot a sneaking enemy a mile off. 4 example at karkand when you are mec there's usually yanks sneakin next to the river. A sniper at the opposite bank helps a lot.

I might not get that many kills as sniper but i have killed many people that needed killing. Such as spec ops planting C4 on a tank, or mounted gunners in vehicles or machine gun posts, allthough its camping a sniper can stop the enemys planes and choppers from taking off as the M95 can shoot through glass. Also very usefull for taking enemy snipers out.

you can reek some serious havoc on maps like sharqi, karkand, mashtuur...

for example yesterday i was on mec with an m95. and a blackhawk with a pilot and both gunners were capping the mosque, and i simply shot the pilot, and made the blackhawk crash in the mosque haha, getting credited for 3 kills id say that that was pretty helpful towards my team, and a nice contribution getting rid of the blackhawk, and saving the mosque control point.

I think the M95 is very much overrated but the sniper class very much underrated. The trouble is, certain maps have an over abundance of vehicles making snipers effectively useless. You may think Karkand & Sharqi are ideal for snipers but I find them too "busy" - hard to get decent spots without being knifed in the back!

Operation Clean Sweep and Mashtuur are much better sniper maps IMO.

I also think the times when you shoot someone through glass happens so infrequently and is so unreliable that it's not worth thinking about. Since it normally takes two shots to kill anyway, and shooting through glass requires a huge amount of luck, the chances of shooting someone TWICE through glass is just not something worth trying for! Far better to use a rocket

If im understanding this post please correct me lol, Snipers are very good if used properly and wisley. Such as scouting the outer perimitres or the zone you are going to engage, try and hide in dark shadowed flat terraine and aim for the most weakiest part of the human body. Also try and make it 1 shot 1 kill note that not every shot can be right.

I like to have some grass around me and covering the scope, but make sure that when you fire the bullet does not hit the grass and and misses the target and gives away your position.

When you may be capturing a spawn and its a full squad try and have 2 Snipers 1 to cover the front and the rear of the checkpoint.

Very interesting point of view on the contribution of SNIPERS .. But forgive me if im wrong ... But was i the only NOOB who nearly Shat themself with excitment when the Magic of the M95 became unlockable :)
Only to be left deflated by averageness ...... Lying in wait to for that perfect shot at the moving target .. you shoot you hit ....Guess what hes not Dead and has dissapeared in2 the distance = 1 shot 1 kill needed ??

LOL, Im not being a smart arse guys/girls but Iv seriously found out all the other weak points on the infantrymen besides the head. So please go out into a nice server and test out the weak points and I dont plan to tell my secrets lol.

Snipering does help a team if they play right. They can defend flags or rape flags to help the team, but the snipers just laying on a hill getting 5 kills a round dont help but there fun to kill.
Ps when a MEC or china sniper try to go in dark ares or grass maybe in the shadow of a tree. But when USA go in light grass but still beside a object helps
