    Re: Half-Life 2: Lost Coast

I played this level on my X800 with FULL graphics & FULL HDR & I was in AWE. I have NEVER seen more beautiful & AMAZING graphics in my life. It was like the water was so real & the faces looked just perfect all the way down to the slightest wringle. Those that have not seen this have no idea what there missing......I have seen the future & its brought to us in FULL HDR.....

          HDR doesnt affect shadows.

It might in the future, through ambient occlusion...but maybe not for another couple of generations.

don't know about you guys but i feel a little bit ripped off wasting my bandwidth on it... the new graphical tech was alright, the demo/mission was way too short. Only thing i liked about it was the high detail of the old man but im not sure if characters were given an improvement. FYI i have a 7800gtx so don't go flaming me about how much the graphics rox

Its a pretty impressive tech demo IMO,my x800 PRO was able to run it at the 2nd to highest reslolution(1280x960 or something) with AA on 4x,everything high and HDR alright. Nothing to go oooh and ahh if you know what to look for but at first sight it generated a favourable first impression or at least with me. Maybe Im just a Source fanboy? Can't wait for The Aftermath to come out.

I have a X800 also and I was able to run everything on as high as possible with 1280X1024 with no problems...

He probably said that because he didn't know it was a tech demo, not an actual part of the game. If you want to see HDR in action, then I suggest you download it.

 j/k actually what's wront with having nice graphics on a game? Would everyone like to have beautiful graphics??? mmmm YES the whole point is to make it as real as possible while still retaining the game aspect of it. So yeah it is a pretty tech demo, and i hope games start looking more like that one.

                        Re: Half-Life 2: Lost Coast

As far as HDR in action goes...its fairly basic.

People are starting to realise that glow isnt HDR...apparently now they think exposure control is HDR. Thanks mainly to mis-informed internet and magazine articles by people who have no idea what theyre talking about. In fact, at the moment, HDR has little to do with lighting.

Neither glow or exposure control are HDR, theyre just things that are alot more realistic in a HDR engine. HDR is alot more fundamental than that.

Once proper HDR engines come out, everything will look better - reflections, motion blur, depth of field, fog, transparency will all look photorealistic.

This tech demo is just the begining.

I love the way that Valve says my CPU is not sufficent

I have an AMDXP3000 clocked at 2.41GHz which can own a P4 3.0 hard, yet it says I'm at 2.2 which does not meet the requirements.

Downloaded it anyway though, will play tonight.

Surprised my x800 P.E was able to handle it at 1280x1024 on high settings and AA on 4x and AF on 6x. Looks really good.
