i've got a 6600 (not gt), and i can only play on pretty much all low settings, rest of the comp is good BUT i only have 512mb of ram  I get a LOT of lag. so much so that i've pretty much given up on playin till i get more. I'm a poor uni student so that won't be until christmas prolly

Only on all low.. what about your Virtual RAM, how much do you have?

        Re: Graphics

I have played with it a bit i'm pretty sure but to no effect.

        My specs are
        Athlon 64 3000
        nvidia 6600
        512mb ram
        72000rpm wd HD
half decent mobo with onbaord sound
        550w power supply

BF2 used to not be as laggy, but since i formatted HD and re-installed windows has been so bad that i can't really play. (i have partitioned into 5 drives, i just keep windows and apps on front drive)

There is something very wrong with my comp at the moment but i haven't been able to pinpoint whats causing it. On occasions my comp will just slow down. I mean it still executes everything i input into it but all of a sudden it's like instead of 2000mHz its going at 100. never encountered this before and i can't figure out the program that triggers it cause it seems to happen randomly.

          Re: Graphics

Make sure you dont have any unwanted programs running in the background or and viruses/trogans, they can start up at random times and cause lag spikes.

You CPU is very similar to mine, so its not that, you have a better Video card than me, so its not that, You RAM is low, but it shouldnt be that bad, power is good, mobo is fine, Hd is same as mine (speed).

Do you find it lags while listening 2 music or when running certain applications, or just randomly?

            Re: Graphics

I know all about unwanted progs and that. I'm studying IT at uni and have an active iterest in comps so I know a bit about them, so it's not that. Have anti-virus, spyware, etc.

The problems is it has happened while i've been doing many diff things. ( listening to music, runnig word while on the net, etc.)
The biggest surprise i've had is when i've shut down my comp when this has happened (just switched off, not shutdown properly), when i boot back up straight away it will still be very laggy and slow

I have one(256mb) and it runs BF2 on med/hi settings. May differ because of the rest of your computer.

                Re: Graphics

Ok, that definatly sounds like a RAM issue. The C will shut down if it completly runs out of RAM, as a fail safe, and because its happening when you have multiple programs runnung, especially music, makes it even more convincing. Its just strange that its so drastic. I know alot of people that have 512 and, sure they get slightly slowed down, but not this much.

Make sure that your Virtial RAM is 1.5 times you RAM. So it sould be 768 MB. This will give you the best performance.

yeah it's very strange to me as well cause it really is drastic. It's like all of a sudden my comp gets slower and slower until it's like I swapped my chip for a 486

ok i will try that, thank you very much. this has been annoying me for a couple of weeks now.

and by the way, sorry for hijacking the thread :)

                      Re: Graphics

ok the virtual is set at 768 with a max of over 1500, so it can't be that. I have thought that MAYBE it is the power supply. I have a few case mods (thermaltake xasier3 case with lights and 3 fans) so maybe they are draining a bit of power but i still don't see how that could like retard my comp so it goes so slow.

If i leave it alone, most of the time it will 'catch up again' so to speak. It will start to go at normal speed again. I have noticed that sometimes it will drop the connection to the net when it happens as well

                        Re: Graphics

What type of RAM, speed, timings, voltage? And try to disconnect all the extra lights, etc, to see if it will make a difference, bu ti dont think so, you woul dhave to have a very low power supply and alot fo extra things in there.

                          Re: Graphics

That's exactly what i thought. 550 is far to much to have any probs with a power supply but it was a passing thought and i've known of drama's with power supplies before.

I will check my woltages and that now.

by the way i have an Abit Uguru mobo. When i got it at may it was brand new to the country. Has the guru clock and stuff where you can overclock on the fly

Niice... the only thing i can OC with out restart/in BIOS is my vid card everything else i gotta do in BIOS.. but thats a nifty feature.

yeah don't really use it though. Ok here goes (didn't need to restart to get voltages cause of those features :))

the votage on the DDR is 2.65 and the clocks are normal for 2300 ram on an AMD board.

OK, the voltage looks ok, you could try to raise it slightly to see if you notice and improvements. The timings, are they low or high? As i know that as my RAM has bad timings it can get a bit bogged down sometimes.
