Seriously welsome to a great game!!! I love and many do so ignore the idiots who moan al the time. Yes, there is a hard learning curve, just got with it and you'll learn. Also, play how you want to play and with whatever you like best. Ignore all advice telling you not to use st ie noob tube. Only listen to the advice about not tking deliberatley. Use your hea and youll do great. Just dont p**s everyone off too much!!!!

Welcome to the game! My best advice is to make sure you have voice enabled, and use your mic. Join a squad that uses it - and ask them as you are going. You will pick up the best info in the game and from other players.

Yes single player is a good idea if you have never played any of the battlefield series of games. Try driving all the vehicles and using the different mounted weapons.

Make sure you know how to capture flags (spawn points). Try playing the different support classes - medic, support, engineer. They are a good way for you to gain extra points - heal, give ammo, and repair you teammates.

Also - if you are interested in flying, I highly recommend practicing flying in single player. You will be disliked online if you keep taking limited air assets and you cannot keep them for more than a minute.

Most of all - just have fun. If you find a server where lots of people are complaining, using cheap kill methods, or team members kill you for vehicles - pick a different server. They all are not bad.

Not sure how anyone else thinks about this - but try asking in game for help. Put up a chat - tell your team that you are new to the game, and you are still learning online game play. You might even get people like myself that will volunteer to help you out to get you going...rather than just those jerks that make fun of you.

I would recommend you play on a ranked server - especially ones with admins. Quality of play is much better.

For all those posts about what weapon you need to use and unlock, etc. Everyone is different and have different play styles. Check out all of the kits - figure out which one you like to play, and stick with it. Before you know it, you will get good at that and want to try others.

Try not to get discouraged if you feel like you are getting killed too easily and not able to kill anyone. There are people out there that play hours and hours every day...and have been doing that for months.

6 Practice, practice, practice. You will be owned over and over if you're past experiences are SP. There are a lot of talented players online and it will take you a few weeks to find out your strong points.

Also hang back a bit and watch the guys in front of you, sniper makes this easy. Choose your moments to put yourself at risk, also and most importantly work on your Kill to death ratio, this will be tuff at first but once you start killing as much as your being killed you will probably will not regress. If in a few months your not making any head way on breaking even with your kill to death ratio change your tactics until you are. Once your on the plus side or even with your kill to death ratio consider yourself valuable to your team. Until then find a few good servers, dont jump around alot, and learn to kill them before they kill you, capping flags and handing out ammo and health will come later focus on killing first. Be creative...

Look before you leap

first scan a street, don't forget the roofs, keep in mind where enemys can pop up and plan your approach. You'll still get killed sometimes from angles you had not considered at all but it'll be less frequent :)

If you see a target, spot him ingame quick using the commo rose. if you don't get him, chances are a teammate can. especially with armoured units, air assets and cars, then the commander has a better idea of the situation overall.

Don't fire as fast as your trigger finger allows. Read up in forums about how weapons work, you'll find a lot of usefull tips, especially about the guns you can unlock and the vehicles, on how to use them

learn to use the UAV's spotting on your minimap. it gives you a good indication of where trouble is coming from.

listen to your commander (who you can only hear if you are in or leading a squad)

keep any questions relevant and as short as possible, and if the answer is easily discouvered on your own first try that, read the manual, and listen to the voice's tips when you first start, the guy makes sense..

(Can't count how many people I've seen ingame asking how to switch firing modes on the guns, one guy asked how to crouch..)

Just a small correction here; the USMC gets the DPV (Desert Patrol Vehicle ("Dune buggy")), not the FAV.

Also, in case you didn't know yet, if you play on Ranked servers (use the filter in your server browser), your stats will be stored. You can check those stats on sites like www.bf2s.com and www.bf2tracker.com.
As you gain points on Ranked servers, you'll reach new ranks (click here for rank requirements). For new ranks you'll get unlocks, as has been mentioned before.

I tk'd all the time and didn't have a clue as to what the hell I was supposed to be shooting at first off. It takes a while for the enemy's name to come up over their head and many times I would be shot before I could figure out friend or foe. After a while you get used to the colours of the uniforms BUT until then:
See movement ahead? Check your minimap. After a while you'll get used to the range on it and you'll be able to see roughly where the friendlies are. If you see movement, but theirs no blue dots in that area on the map, then take your time and aim for the kill :)

Also, I can't stress the importance of spotting enough. Spotting is achieved by aiming at an enemy and pressing "main radio" and just left clicking "spotted". This will light up the enemy like a xmas tree on the minimap for all to see. Works better at range or against armour or before the enemy sees you.

Your advice has been great so far. After last nite I felt a little more confident with things, and Im am learning to use the 'spotting' technique you talked about. Along with the other things on the 'Q' key. Ive also gotten pretty good at flying (mainly choppers), it kinda just came naturally to me (maybe I found my calling :P).

I really would like to log onto voice chat sometimes with a squad and hear what they are doing...but there are a group of us (4 now) who use an outside client to communicate, and I dunno if I joined ingame voice, if it would mess up the outside clients voice chatting. All 4 of us typically make our own squad as well, so we are just kinda learning off each other...its pretty fun. Although it sure would be nice to have some badass dude in there voice chatting with us to give us all help or tips. Voice chatting is so much more useful thank text chatting. From what Ive noticed, the 'text chatting' in this game is pretty crude at best, and people rarely answer, so I assume everyone is on voice.


edit: p.s. I forgot to tell everyone, I got my first ribbon last nite too!!! Something to do with jumping out of a plane. I got the ribbon when I jumped out of a transport chopper and landed in the enemy base.

If you see a red artillary symbol on your mini map and you hear the commander say artillary in your area, run as far away as you can, don't run towards it.

Using an outside client will not mess up your in game voice chat.

I have Ventrillo, Teamspeak, and in game voice running at the same time - every time I play. The biggest thing is to adjust the volumes of the clients and game so that you can hear everything ok. The in game voice chat lowers all other sound when someone else is talking. Outside clients do not.

the BEST way to learn tips
is to read this FORUM = all of it
might take an hour :P
you will learn soooooooooooo many tips
and yes SP is waaaaaaay easier
but at least do well there for a while
then try MP, then SP again for vehicles
then MP
and the BEST in game advise
get your voice comms working
and find a clan or group that plays together
