Switch the firing mode to single shot unless you are two feet from an enemy. Support rifles were meant to be full auto hold them down until you see the x.
Use the q button to ask for support/to spot enemies.
Use the VOIP, and make sure the squad you are in is using VOIP as well (anyone who has ever played XBOX Live knows how much better teams do when they communicate).
Look at the stats list and follow the player with the highest kills and take mental notes on what they're doing. There is a reason their name is at the top of the list.
Don't be a sniper, learn to fly really well on your own time, and use the unique items in your kit.
