Before you read please, if you don't care about badges, ranks, stats, etc and you're of the opinion that "who cares! it's just a game" please don't read any further.


Now, my question is, have you seen anyone with the expert engineer badge?
I'm close to my 100h as engineer and all i have to do is get 25 repair points to get the badge. Easy right? Problem is, that theres not enough time to get near 20 repair points much more less 25. Specially now that repairing aircraft of any kind takes even longer rendering the engineer class more useless than before (unless you're using a vehicle) in maps like karkand/mashtuur/sharqi.

I'll put this into perspective:
support and medics by throwing a bag and someone picking it up, they get points inmediately. No waiting required.
engineers need to wait at least around 8 seconds wrenching to get ONE point. Now mind you, the most you can get from fixing a tank/commander assets is 2 repair points and to top it off the wrench depletes as it's being used.

Now, I dont' want to turn this into another "worst kit of bf2" thread, but I sincerely think engineers need to either repair faster, or get more points for repairing things.
Anyway, back to the original question:

Have you seen anyone with an expert engineer badge? (and if you have, ask how he got it... ). Do you have suggestions on how to get 25 repair points ?

You are right, in this point of view, the engineer is put way back, on the other side if you could trow repair bags it would cause to many tank whoring , to easy and to fast to repair.

Or, they make repair points go faster, like repairing a total bar is 2 points and repairing something hals is one point .

Or they lower the requirements for the dam badge

But I like the first idea better, so will the engineer be equal to a medic or support for getting teamwork points, instead of beeing the retard

Agreed on numerous points. The expert engineer is way to high for any normal game.

The game would have to last well over an hour. And you'd have to have things that you could repair every 2 minutes.

play a round on kubra damn 64 players. I hate that map because the 32person maps last an hour, so the 64 you should be able to fix enough vehicles and assets to get the points.

I agree that you should get more points for fixing things. IT takes way too long to get 1 repair point

There's pleanty enough to repair in a single round. The problem is the stuff is all over the place, vehicles that need repair usually blow up a second later, and commander assets can easily be fixed with crates. It's like that game they have a fairs where you hit groundhogs on the head with a mallot. The only difference is those groundhogs are on speed.

I'd play rounds trying to rack up as many repair points as I could. I'd hop onto a vehicle running around like a mad man trying to repair stuff. I'd drive to a recently blown radar station only to find a crate next to it has repaired it. Then I'd run to a tank I find that is at half life only to find it has blown up in my face.

One thing I have learned, however, is it's much better to repair with your wrench than inside a vehicle unless you are surrounded by friendly vehicles.

Well I've managed veteran engineer by repairing the AA on the carrier.

Expert though is a joke! I reckon it should be changed to one of the following:

1. 50% repair = 1 point, faster repair speed.
2. 25% repair = 1 point, current repair speed.

I got a ton of repair point's on the map Daquing Oilfields, playing as USMC, the enemy kept blowing up the Artilitary and the UAV scanner, so I just kept repairing it everytime they did it, I got like 20 repair points in that round.

OK, maybe you should try this, it's very dirty but it will probably work.

Start round as spec opp, destroy your own commander assets (you will get vehicle damage) , then kill yourself and come back as an engineer, when everything is repaired, kill yourself and come back as a spec ops, ......

You maybe do this the best on a carier, because the enemy isn't around there most of the time and crates mostly fall into the water.

OK, it's realy dirty, but I think most of the people here will agree there are way more dirty things around in BF2, and EA just shouldn't of set the requirements so freaking high

I managed the veteran engineer badge on the helicopter at Mashtuur.

The crew with me had a medic and several of different supportive classes.

I gained 12 repair points and got the legion of merit badge the same map by simply riding along while the minigunners slaughtered the enemy.

The pilot carefully left the area when we got damaged too much for repair and the whole map lasted about 25 minutes.

I have over 115 hours as engie and getting 25 repair points probably will happen on Karkand in the MEC area where the commander toys are. Or supporting the armor in keeping the front alley clear. Possibly simply following tanks around in a FAV might do the job as well.

Bottom line you would need a map with 64 player room and only 32-48 players to make a game last long enough to get all that repair time in. 25 repairs at 10-15 seconds per repair equals over 5 minutes total time on the wrench in a 20 minute map.
