Good Commanders- Critical to winning the map

I would like people to start paying attention to their win/loss ratio depending on whether they have a good commander vs. bad commander/no commander at all. I've been making mental notes on this and the results are amazing. If I have a good commander (calls in UAV, supplies, etc.), my win/loss ratio is close to 4:1.

Which brings me to a entirely different thread: what's the most important statistic in BF2? Global Score? K/D? Score per minute? Kills per minute? I am starting to think the most important stat is Win/Loss ratio. I've started playing for wins and have been enjoying myself a lot more lately.

Good commanders make a huge difference. HUGE. Especially for people like me who tend to operate alone and need supply crate and spotting support.

Win/Loss is a trash stat - players can easily switch to the winning team to pad it, or happen to spawn in on the losing team minutes before a match ends to destroy it.

W/L ratio is quite possibly the least telling because it relies so heavily on the rest of your team and can easily be sidestepped by leaving games or switching sides (the latter I am not entirely sure about).

However, I completely agree with you that a good commander is key. I was playing on a Wake server with very little turn over. I joined in the first round of a 4 round set. We got our asses handed to us while our commander did nothing.

The next round I was commander and I considering myself a good commander, or at least decent. The best part about it was that I had three squad leaders who talked to me and 2 of those squads stuck together. A little coordination by me and some talking to them and giving proper support we owned the other team for the next few maps.

So I couldn't agree with you more on the importance of a commander.

          So true.

That's sad about people switching teams to pad their W/L stats. I guess I've never paid attention to people doing it.

            So, here's my next question:
Can you be a good commander and still fully engage in combat? I'm not talking about flying a jet as a commander, but rather charging on the ground... I think you can but I've seen too many commanders get caught up in stalking a sniper in the bushes and ignore the critical fight at the remaining flag...

monster, I think you CAN, but I also think it is incredibly difficult to do. So I tend to avoid it except in extreme situations, such as if their is an invasion into the base I am "camped" at.

However, when I am commander and we lose our home base, you better believe I tell everyone to attack it and then go in on foot and try to get it back myself. Usually if they take your homebase, they blow up all your assests, so I become almost useless other than supply drops and random point and click pray spots.

One of my clan's XOs is always in the mix as commander, and she has a commander score of over 30,000 and is always a great asset.

She has enough commander points to have this:
                1. 2. 3.

                  DL,

The problem is that even as a commander you don't actually have to DO anything to get a good score. As someone so eloquently said it (and I paraphrase and I apologize that I cannot properly attribute it to the correct poster) "you can apply to be commander, go off and smoke a ciagrette and still end up getting the gold medal for the round."

So, you can get a lot of points and still not be a good commander.

I disagree, Win/Loss ratio IS important.

IMO all ranked servers should have autobalance on, preventing 99% of last minute team switching. Also, people leaving a game early are still credited with the overall outcome of match.

I verified this by mistake recently - my record on Kubra Dam was 19 wins, 4 losses. I joined a game, played for 5 mins and killed/died once. My wife then comes in to ask me to stop playing, off goes the PC. The next morning when I check my stats I have 20 wins and 4 losses. CLearly my team won after I left and I got the win.

In this case it's beneficial to me but more obvious is the fact that players leaving their team still feel the effect of the loss.

So W/L ratio is important, as is kill/death ratio IMO.

But, indigo, you prove the point that it is unimportant.

As you said, you went in, got killed once and got a win.

How is that remotely a reflection of your skill especially in that particular round?

I have no problem with stats that are affected by how your team mates play. This game is all about teamwork, and hence, I think stats like this would be even more telling about how good you are in BF2 than more individualized stats.

And it's not like you are at the whim of your team mates either. There won't ever likely be a round (especially with autobalancing) where every player on your side is playing for the first time and every player on the other team are "733t." If you have players that are purposely getting in the way of your team, start a kick vote. If they just aren't good, help them out and relagate them to low skill, low importance tasks.

                          Zucchini:

Clearly Indigo took a bullet for his team, allowing that key player to infiltrate the enemy lines and win the map! His services in the body bag were critical to his team winning the map! hahaha!

While this may or may not be true, I know from experience that she is a good commander - she always helps us out immensely. Also, her combat score is 22,844 - so she can handle her own on the front lines as well.

I have trouble getting people to work together as if you can own the airfield and deny airpower to the enemy you have a better chance of winning.
