        Re: Leave planes alone

I am not one who likes to complain and whine about stuff being nerfed, but I must say that the aerial combat needs some work.

To me, the thing to fix is the AA. Pilots should be avoiding AA sites, not actively targeting them.

I played a round of Oman the other day where *one* F35 pilot just bombed the MEC airfield the entire round. He was a Master Gunny Sgt and he had it down to a science.

Any attempt to get either of our planes airborne was immediately stopped. Manning the AA site did nothing but get you bombed. Meanwhile, the other F35 pilot was bombing our ground troops into submission.

After about 10 deaths, I finally got airborne by parking a tank next to the spawn location of the planes. When they spawned, he came into bomb and, with a little luck, the tank took the brunt of the damage. Once airborne, he proved to be a rather weak pilot (of course).

Needless to say, if you can't get planes up to fight the enemy planes, you are pretty much screwed. And, without effective AA, this mediocre pilot was having no trouble keeping us on the ground.

Now, I don't want AA that gives you an instant kill every time you get a lock. But, at least make it so that a pilot turns and runs when he sees that SAM site.

well actually the only times i do fly is when they are just sitting in hangers in a minimally populated server... i dont need to camp a plane because they are sitting there unused. belive me when im on a real server and playing a real game. i would never fool my self into thinking that i could make better use of a plane than those players who are pro at flying. beside for me to get into a plane while real pilots are in game would just be my death and preventing my team from using its assets to win the round.

I do know what a immelmen manuver is and also the split-S counter to it is but a cant say that i could do them, much less any of the other ACM's but it would be cool to have a black sheep squadren type map where everyone flys, like in DC and FH.

              Yes, something around 60%-80% death

Now is like less then 5% lol

All missles should always hit, unless countermeasures are around, but it should take 3 to take a plane down that might give the pilot a fair chance to get the hell out of there

Are you mentally handicapped or something?????.... where in my response does it say that I said testing was coding...

I simply first stated that EA aquired DICE hence they got into coding... then I went on to expand on what EA ALSO (key word there) provided to the game... You really must be slow.... check your facts and learn to clearly read before you make such a nonsense post.

Thanks and have a nice day :)

Oh and yeah the AA could use some tweaking but all and all the amount of times you get owned by a jet is really low... Someone had a bad round and started this thread....IMO

I got yelled at today by two guys in a clan who kept spwaning in the same spot that I kept bombing, they told me to come down and fight like man

I can't tell you how bad I wanted to jump out and blast them both in the face with my shotgun, but good thing I didn't, I set my new kill streak record!

                    Re: Leave planes alone

i'm a good pilot my self i play a lot of FPS and flight sims
the problem i find with BF2 is theres not enough planes
i don't mean not enough su34 to overpower ground forces i just mean
i can't lay my hand on a plane
all those noobs flooding the game always go take a f15 carpet bomb an area
then crash into the bombs they drop what a waste
i wish there are air to air planes which won't over power ground forces but still let people who likes to fly get a hand on a jet
i can even kill infantry with the cannon, most people with joystick can
but i just can't get a jet on my hand

Spoken like a true jet-whore.. I hate flying, I don't mind when somebody else flys but when one unit can become the Death Star all over the map in seconds, with nobody on your team who can even come close to countering it, there IS a problem.

Anybody who's not with his nose up high and dry in the sky, feeling godlike and untouchable will know this to be true..

                            Re: Leave planes alone

I wouldnt have a problem with enemy planes if our pilots actually chased them down.As it is now every pilot doing their own thing like mowing down Infantry not very often I see a dog fight in the sky at all.
So planes do have their place in BF2 just needs pilots to stop riddling the ground with bullets and start taking down some enemy planes.

I disagree, the primary function of pilots in BF2 should be (and is for me) to eliminate ground targets, (tanks and APCs especially) in a way that profits the team, I usually do this by forming my own squad so the commander can give me orders or, attaching myself to a squad with VOIP who can direct me to a target, in BF2 air superiority should be a secondary role, as effective bombing can be achieved without air superiority.

Why is that? As a big jet fan - both in real life and in the BF series, I don't see why jets in BF2 primary role should differ from their primary role in real life - air suppriority. Jets can not concure anything. You need infintry and tanks for that. Jets are here to help the ground forces make their stand and since the ground forces worst enemy is the enemy's air force, their own air force should first engage all enemy aircrafts - starting with jets, then choppers. The second role would be enemy assests (coherent to real life once again), and the third role only would be ground attack.
This is personaly what I do in the game, and I can assure you I have enough time to bomb ground forces.

I think the main problem is not the strength of the AA, but yet again - people not working as a group. I am rarely being taken advantage of my piloting skills (which are pretty damn good). I am left guessing what could help the ground forces. True, I've become a much better guesser in that matter, and much more skilled, but we all could benefit from ground forces making use of the jets in the air, and pilots not only thinking about their score.

So I suggest the following -
                                Pilots:
                                1) join a squad or be the commander of one (the better choice - the commander is the all-seeing-eye for you, and should make better use of your jet as an asset).
                                2) Start listening to your team requests (and team - don't miss use these request unless you want your pilots to stop listening to them at all).
                                3) Think tactically oriented instead of point oriented - enemy choppers making their way to cap a deserted flag can change the whole round against you. Nutrulized flags without any team members by are probably the first ground target you should take. Try looking at the whole map before deciding on your next mission, instead of just making your way to bomb some more easy targets.

                                Ground forces:
                                1) Spot jets! Any time you can spare the click spot the enemy jet so your team's jets could see them on the radar. Even if you just spotted the jet, or it was spotted a few seconds ago - spot it again so it'll keep being spotted (it's true for every enemy, but might be more important for jets when you need them to being taken down). But generally speaking - SPOT! That one click can sometime be the difference between your team wining or losing - e.g if you saw a jeep making it's way to a deserted team flag, with no team mates close by, spotting it, could alert the team's jets to it's presence, resulting in an early bombing on the dude, and avoiding the lose of the important flag. When I notice these situations, I try as best to take them out. But if they would be spotted it would be even easier.
                                2) Invite "rambo" pilots to your squad (the ones which are not in a squad already). If they do accept the invitation (when I'm in the jet, and not in annother squad - I'll join), try and make use of them:
                                3) Commanders/Squad leaders - Make use of "squaded" jet pilots. Keep requesting their attention to your request (use VOIP when possible, human voice is better then automatic messages).

The jets are a much more team oriented vehical then you think (actually, it's the number 1 team oriented vehical IMO - when the pilot and the team work together).

AA should be the weakest weapon in the game because it needs no skills to hit it's target. Some of you want it to be easier to hit with, but if DICE does that, you won't actually need to do anything different to be more skilled - you guys are looking for easy points, not a solution to your problem which can tactically be solved (this is a tactical shooter, not a run and gun FPS such as unreal tournament, which I, for it's bunny hoping and run-n-gun motives, do not like - as do many others BF players).
