    Re: Dual video cards

anything more than 30fps is meaningless. anything above your monitors native resolution is meaningless and if you are already running the rendering on max then having more power is meaningless.

As for the horsepower staement no your wrong it is like adding another engine to a honda but the ecu only allowing it the same horsepower as a single engine.

I concur. I have a Asus Sli deluxe mobo and I only have one 6800gt at the moment. I don't think it would make a huge difference with the games today. Now next years games. Very big possibility. I will eventually increase to my second card. The prices should drop another $50 by next year also.

        Re: Dual video cards

Eh, I run a 19inch monitor with a 1280x1024... SLI is a waste for me. Plus, I don't buy Nvidia products anyways; ATI fanboy here.

But! It does net performance gains, and they are typically in the 30% range.. or higher.

I can understand not having the money to buy this setup (I do, just, with a 19inch monitor I have no use for it) but back off of the backsides of the people that do. I mean, hell, when you have a 21" - 24" LCD Monitor you NEED two 7800GTX's to crank everything up. Less ya' wanna' stutter. And why would you not drop an extra 600bucks on an already 5.4k system?

I repeat, for the broke masses, BACK OFF! (Or go get some better facts, because it sounds like a lot of people are just shooting off at the mouth from Envy...)

          Re: Dual video cards

if your using a massive screen thats another issue but people seem to be under the impression that if you have a setup that plays bf2 at the res u want with everrything on high that a second card will improve things in some way and the truth is it won't.

30% more of what exactly? If your running bf2 at 1280x1024 on high with 4x AA with a single 6800gt how is antoher one going too help? More res? No. More textures? No. More FPS? No.
You know what makes me laugh? People who consider 1280x1024 to be the MAX.

If you'd read any of what I'd said, you would've realized that I state over and over again that you need to be running at a high resolution to get the most out of SLI.

Call me crazy, but I wanted to run this panel at native resolution, with max eyecandy and a buttery smooth framerate.

              OMG!!!

              This is just too much.

Talk to professional gamers and tell them that anything over 30fps is meaningless.
Getting 10 more fps is the edge between getting the drop on someone and you being dropped.
TechTV had UT2004's number one player on there discussing his strategy and how FPS were key and that you want as much as possible.

Elaborate on your correction of my analogy. I want to try and understand where you are coming from because it makes no sense to me.

              *EDIT*

I think I'm starting to understand. Most of your reference is if they are running a lower monitor?

Personally I could use SLI in that respect. I'm running a 22" LCD monitor.

                Re: Dual video cards

SLI is a great feature, but expensive. If you're willing to throw the cash down, the performance enhancement on a proper gaming system is absolute.

...the only other AIB manufacturer with similar or higher clocks was even more expensive at the time of purchase. I didn't pick the boards because they were BFG, I picked them because of the clocks and price for said clocks.

Any game bf2 included can only go so far and a single 6800gt for instance will run the game at max so having another one isnt going to make it better than max becuase ITS ALREADY RUNNING AT MAX.

Hardware is there too run the software at its maximum but the software is what limits it not the hardware so if you want too waste your money on pointles peices of hardware that offer no benefit go ahead.

:|: Wow.. all I can say is wow..
You have never seen an sli setup have you? Everything you have said so far is wrong.. in fact, I was starting to wonder if you were being sarcastic or not..

1st: "30% more of what exactly?"
Actually.. according to benchmarks, its almost double the power..

                      2nd:"More res? No."
I would like to see anybody run a single 6800gt at 1900x1200 and get more than 30fps with everything on high.

                      3rd: "More textures? No."
                      Ummmmmm... textures are software based..

4th: "Any game bf2 included can only go so far and a single 6800gt for instance will run the game at max so having another one isnt going to make it better than max becuase ITS ALREADY RUNNING AT MAX."

Ok, if you can run bf2 at "max" settings.. please show me a screenshot utilizing 16x AA on a single 6800gt.

5th: "anything more than 30fps is meaningless"
So if I have a system that maxes out on 30fps, I shouldnt upgrade? even when everytime I move my mouse it shoots down to 10fps? Sorry, I think anybody would rather have a system that runs a minimum of 60fps. Thats pretty much the standard.

                      6th: "More FPS? No."
Honestly.. this is the cherry on the dumbass cake. thank you for that comment, I have already posted it in a few other forums under the "idiots" sections. Good laughs.
