Couple points on SLI.

1. SLI only makes sense if you're doing it with topend gear. Buying one card, then buyin a 2nd to SLI sometime in the future doesn't make any sense. There is usually a single card out by then that is equal to or better than your SLI solution. That said, if you're going to go SLI *right now*, you go 7800gt or gtx and you buy both of them at once.

2. SLI isn't worth it for 99% of the games out there ---unless--- you're running a large panel with a high native resolution(like 1920x1200). If you're gaming at 1280x1024, SLI is completely wasted with current games.

3. If you go SLI, don't leave yourself cpu-bound with a gimp processor. Make sure your entire rig is out there on the edge, not just your video.

I went SLI so I could play bf2 at 1920x1200 with max eyecandy and a great FPS and for me it was worth every penny.

if you put dual video cards it will give you better graphics and also you can have 4 moniters

...and then I needed a new powersupply to run everything.

PC P&C 510 SLI: $219

Right on the money!
SLI is an amazing technology.. but you have to have the support to get the full potential out of it. If you are running my rig with sli, it will be bottlenecked (always remember that your computer is only as powerful as its weakest link). I would see the same amount of performance out of a single 7800gtx on my rig. SLI is nothing new either.. back when they made voodoo cards, SLI was introduced.. Im suprised that with the growth of the videocard market lately, they didnt bring it back sooner.

is about 30 to 60% gain , and sometimes even 0%

dual vid cards is stupid, in most cases you better buy the best vid card and upgrade the year after to the best vid card then with the saved mony

I dont care if my frps is 60/70/80/90/100... when game game comes out i just get a new vid card if it requires it... all there is 2 it.. if you wanna go SLI... great, get the best performance available, but at the moment they are not being fully utalised.. but the soon will be...

I don't know what you're saying about fully utilized. I'm fully utilizing mine, but I have a large panel, with a high native resolution, that makes all the difference.

I can't run at my current settings with just one card and get the same smooth FPS. If that isn't utilizing two cards, I don't know what is.

The only stupid thing is 'waiting' for the next best thing when you can have the best thing now. If it doesn't put you in a financial hardship, why wait?

No offence gentlemen but I can't believe how retarded this thread is.

SLI is worth the money and you don't need an application that was engineered to use SLI for it to be worth it or see huge gains.

My friends FX64, 2Gig mem, 2x6800GT, and Raptor S-ATA in RAID 0+1 is SMOKING!!!

Looks like a lot of people making comments here don't have the setup and probably haven't even seen one.

Point being, ask the people that have SLI and you'll get the best feedback in terms of pros and cons.

Let the flames continue...

BTW - Intel doesn't have a true SLI mobo yet--- that I know of. AMD only....

30% more of what exactly? If your running bf2 at 1280x1024 on high with 4x AA with a single 6800gt how is antoher one going too help? More res? No. More textures? No. More FPS? No.

Any game bf2 included can only go so far and a single 6800gt for instance will run the game at max so having another one isnt going to make it better than max becuase ITS ALREADY RUNNING AT MAX.

Hardware is there too run the software at its maximum but the software is what limits it not the hardware so if you want too waste your money on pointles peices of hardware that offer no benefit go ahead.

I don't think this is correct. I want to say I've read that many hoped they could do it-- it only makes sense, right... but SLI can only accommodate 2 monitors.

So if I run everything at MAX, I mean everything and I'm getting 40fps from my 6800GT that OC to Ultra speeds. Add another 6800GT and my fps goes up to 70-- that's not a gain?

As I mentioned before, my friend's rig is running a killer setup with EVERYTHING maxed and cooks at 80fps.

I'm sorry but I don't agree and your logic doesn't make sense at this point.

It's like saying adding another 4 cylinder engine to a Honda will not give you any more power. Because it will :laugh:
