Alas, a thread's viewcount is not indicative of whom agrees with whom.

      Re: I Miss Sniping

bullet drop, bullet travel time...none of them make sense in this game. It seems pretty random to me. I've played sniper class since DF:LW (to date best sniping game) probably before that but not real effective in the smaller map type games.
In almost all games there is a few things to learn before you can repeat your hits and become effective at long range killing. BF2 on the other hand I haven't figured out. I've seen bullet drop at 200m and no bullet drop at 300m. I've aimed for the head and got a headshot, aimed above the head at same distance for a headshot..people say there is no deviation in sniper rifles...Not true, It can't be true or people wouldn't be complaining so much about not being able to hit consistently. I've started making frap videos just to compare shots at different distances..I'm finding no pattern what so ever. Most of my tests are done on wake island from the US arty Island over to the bunker on the left.
And you have to lead on every fps when sniping, if not for bullet travel time, then for lag compensation.
I also don't think sniping is for "princesses" to afraid to be on the front line...it's a game..why would anyone be afraid? Sniping is a love/hate thing. I don't snipe because I'm lazy I snipe because I enjoy it. I like the idea of 1 shot 1 kill (bf2's case 6 shots 1 kill usually) and the stealth. I shoot precision guns IRL (hobby), I own most sniper related movies. It's just more satisfying to me to pick someone off from a few hundred yards away then going in spraying. I do play both styles though depending on the map and the situation. End rant.

I have to agree that there is some form of deviation in the sniper rifles (be it bullet drop or whatnot). Right now I'm still having fun with the M95 but sniping in this game is very difficult compared to other games (my benchmark has, and always will be the original Delta Force!) - especially when leading on all 3-axis with the probability of missing anyway!

It should be fun, right now its not. You never know when you get a guy in your sights if you will actually kill him or not, and most times you can shoot 2 or 3 times and still not get him, just to have him hit you with his handgun or something, I have never played a game where they had sniping and it sucked so much...I love the class though so what to do..

            AMEN!!!!
Couldn't agree more bud. I play both styles as well but I love it when im 500m or so and I pull off a shot and drill the sucker in the head and the lovely body rag effect is very pleasing.(WHEN it works) About the front line comment someone made. I can hide or I can run and gun as a sniper, Cqb sniper-Shoot once centre mass with the rifle, draw pistol shoot centre mass again and they are dead. If im with a squad I can be right with them but if I see sniper rounds hitting them I fall back for cover and search for the sniper and countersnipe. I LOVE to sniper very satisfying when it works. I wish they would fix it, AA sniper was awsome you would have to hold your breath for a second then fire and if you held it to long your rifle would sway. really nice effect. pain in the ass too but when you held your breath and fired a head shot that guy is dead.

              Re: I Miss Sniping

The reason there is a HUGE learning curve for the sniper class is because they don't want BF2 to be Counter Strike, everyone running around with snipers. You just have to use it ALOT and get used to it. The M24 is a great gun and very accurate. Perfect for killing infantry. The M95, I think, isn't as good as an all around gun, but good for those morons who try to run you over in the panzyfied Humvees.

Basically you just have to use the class alot to get used to it. I played it all day yesterday and started to really get the hang of it. My squadmates really help out too. If your a sniper it helps to find a squad to work with. I play with the same guys everyday so that helps, because we are constantly moving. The sniper(s) hang back while the rest start to move on a flag. The other troops will be more worried about the other four guys moving into the base that they can SEE than a shot of a sniper rifle. This way it gives you another shot or two if you miss.

Another reason the sniper class is useful in teamwork is that you can spot TONS of things like tanks/apcs/choppers whatever before they can hurt your teammates. Again it's a LOT more fun to use sniper in a squad.

Here is why I go sniper though. I play as an offensive sniper. I won't sit back and try to kill people from 200+ yards, I'm gonna kill them at 150- yards. I've decimated on maps like Karkand and Mastuur like this. You won't go into alleys, but just get close enough that you know you can't miss. Sure it will be easier for them to hit you, but if your any good at all you won't miss from that close. Also it's intimidating to get shot and only have 2 bars of health left. After that people just hop around spraying and praying you won't shoot them again.

              Just my $.02.
