Remember that what other people here describe as "smooth" might be unacceptable to you. One of my clan mates claimed that everything ran smooth for him so I asked him to turn on the FPS counter. He ran with 25FPS. To me that would be utter crap. Look at my sig, with that hardware I have only one graphic setting at high! I run terrain at high, the rest at medium except view distance 100% and texture filtering on high. I don't use antialiasing, instead I use 1280x960 resolution to make the pixels smaller on screen and get smoother edges that way.

I can still see jagged edges but not as annoying as with 1024x768. If I where you I would clear the cache folder in BF2, turn all medium except terrain and use a higher resolution if your monitor can handle it like 1152x864. Then see how that runs on Kubra Dam. Remember that the big dam on the Kubra map is real hard on the graphic card. With these settings my FPS still drops to 50 sometimes when the action is bad on 64 player maps.

First go here read and understand about all your BIOS settings.

      http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=9

BIOSs are different you may have these settings or not.

      Set PCI latancy to 64
      Set APG apature to 256
APG read syncronization = turn it off (for older gen cards, new gen hates it)
FastWrites = turn it off (ATI hates it)

      Then go to

Website of Former TweakGuides author Koroush Ghazi

Read the guids on Windows optimizing then the guide for ATI Vid cards.

Then read the guide for BF2.

Actually I have noticed a similar issue. I used to run everything at medium settings (AA turned off though) rather smoothly. After installing the new patch, during any online game I have dropped down to 12-13 FPS at low settings. I have tried a single player game and things work fine (actuall a little better than they did), but join up to any online server and things bottom out.

        Running:
        AMD Athlon XP 3000+
        ASUS A7N8X (nvidia Gforce2 chipset)
        1.5GB PC3200 DDR
ATI 9700TX (not great but was still able to manage things decently)

Now I have thought it might be an issue with my ISP connection (recently had VOIP phone installed on same line and also running a webserver), but I uninstalled BF2 entirely, Reinstalled and tested it out and worked fine. Installed the first patch, still working fine. Installed the latest one and things go down in flames.
I will be going through my BIOS setting in full to see what I can change there, but anyone have any suggestions on WTH I could possibly do to help this (besides the standard buy more RAM/better vid card)?
