    It's in the BIOS.

I think it has to do with the x800 pro more than anything. I just don't think that card has the firepower to run everything at max setting. I uninstalled all antivirus programs, etc. but the performance issue is still there. I may start shutting down questionable services in Windows to see if that helps.

Can anyone tell me what one setting has the most impact on performance? Is it the textures or the lighting? I may have to bump one or two of them down, but damn, I shouldn't have to!

          Any other ideas?
Well, I have an X800 Pro, and I can run quite a few things on "high," including 6x Anti-Aliasing.

I use an AMD 3000+ @ 2.4 Ghz and 1.5 Gig of DDR 400 RAM.

However, I turned OFF dynamic light and shadows, as they're ugly as sin and very power intensive.

I get the feeling it is the line of graphics card that is causing the problem. I run a Radeon X700 pro with virtually the same system specs as you have, and I have to run every setting at low/off to even play 32 player maps with any sort of decent framerate. But even that goes to hell whenever a large firefight breaks out; I go down to like less than 10 frames per second if anything happens on screen. By all rights my system should kick this game's ass, but it just doesn't. Since you have an X800 and have the same issues, I'm inclined to believe it's the video card that's holding us back. I can't even PLAY on 64 player maps; it's just not possible.

What's worse is that my little brother has a machine with about half the power of mine, but has a 6800GT, and he runs the game on mostly the highest possible settings without a single frame dropping. The little bastard! (though I did get to play on his machine once ... hot damn I was racking up kills like nobody's business.)

WTF? I got 2800+ 9500/9800 Pro, with 1gb ram... I run on high settings smoothly all map sizes...

Don't waste your money on more ram, however that will help, but the real problem lies somewhere else.

You can thank the ALMIGHTY BF2 engine for that

Re: How can I be getting such bad performance from this system?

I have a very similar system to the OP, my specs are in my sig. I run everything high, except dynamic shadows/light are off, and 4x AA. Turning off the dynamic crap seemed to smooth things out quite a bit for me.

I also have a question, how much of an impact does having an antivirus make in performance, and would just disabling it before I play give better performance, or would I have to completely uninstall it? I really don't feel comfortable uninstalling my antivirus, so I'm just wondering if disabling would give the same results. thx

it depends on which antivirus you have, but it will decrease game performance. I know for sure Norton is a major resource hog, and you have to disable it each time you want to play.

Anyways, I think what that dude said about 156 (Default) colors or whatever setting to err... 256? Or whatever, is the right choice, unless you've already ad your problem answered, then I just made this post to acknowledge that guy's post.

Ran is a large part of running the game.

                            2.2Gh amd 64 1.5GB ram DDR3200 nvidia 5700le"CRAP" for short

Run everything on medium save for snadow stuff and it funs great on all maps, even aussie servers.
