I never played BF42 so last night was my first full server action on this incredible map even thought it is a big map i found myself constently in action and this map is an aviators dream but troops on ground get in to some excellent battles.

My overall opinion on this map is MAGNIFICENT it is now my new favourite map

When the US gets a base or two, its an average map, nothing great mind you, because you will stil be smacked around by the attack helo's and the J10 since you cannot get inside.

If the US doesnt manage to get a base, the j10 pilot is somewhat skilled, its a rape.

Personally I love to hate it.
Its like about every other map in that if you are in a good server where people are working together to accomplish a goal then its an AMAZING map.. But on the other 90% of the servers running it where there nobody does anything but sit around and wait for the jets, it sucks a sour fart.

Sure you can, last time I played on Wake most of my kills were from the IGLA missiles - they're *much* better now and they track enemy jets with greater efficiency (I've shot one down long after it was out of sight). However, sometimes it just won't lock on enemy aircrafts even if they're close by and in full view.. just another bug for DICE to fix.

Its pretty good if you have a good team. There was this annoying team switcher but it switched our entire team and we still won as china. Good Air support is important for the chinese. 2 Bombs can rid you of infrantry thats landed on the coast line (which was what I was doing most of the time.)

                I love this map...something for everyone! :)
As long as team play is used...this is an excellent map!
I myself last night played as an Aviator, Helo's, Boats, armor and Infantry.
I got to see where all the strengths and weaknesses are for each class and am preparing myself to rule the map once more! :)

I agree...it starts off to one side, but getting US troops onto the island is the start of an all out infantry war...one good class is sniper due to the trees and buildings etc...

it's all in favour of the usmc imo, a - it's nearly impossible to get out to their arty to put it out of action and B - as soon as the airfield is lost any j-10's in the air can no longer re-arm. in summing up go out wide with a few usmc in a helo and sneak in the back to capture the airfield flag to finish round quickly, once all those us planes are in the air the J-10's quickly fall as does the map...

                        Re: Wake Island 2007 thoughts?

My first thought was that like the old map (which I don’t think I saw Japan win even 25% of the time) this one would favor the defenders rather heavily, but really that isn't the case if the USMC team is even vaguely good anyway.

Basically the choppers and squads change EVERYTHING at start up. In the old map the only options to try and secure a point was a pilot bailing over it alone or using boats which could only land in a few places, were easy to see, could only land at max about 6 guys and rarely that many, couldn’t really support the attack at all, and the landing force had NO hope of backup unless you capped a point.

Now though it’s possible to land a significant force anywhere on the inland rapidly, with squad leaders more men can enter at any time to keep the attack going, and the transport has teeth and can support the landing, further it’s fast and can often get to a point before a defense has been organized and even if spotted it’s hard to stop. If the attackers have even a slight clue usually the result is that the marines overpower and capture one of the far points fairly fast and this stops the bleed.

It’s then really anyone’s game really.

I have noticed though that IMO capturing the north seems to be a better idea for the marines since it’s much easier to attack from and defend IMO. It’s main advantages (in my view) are
-The bridge is a huge chokepoint and can be cut off effectively denying heavy armor access this can be a HUGE deal if the enemy tankers have a clue and bring up both tanks to try and overrun you.
-When attacking out of the village you have high ground and plenty of cover just beyond the bridge while the next flag is on low ground and fairly open this tends to allow you to gain a big edge and overrun the position fairly easily.
-Once you have that position it’s somewhat reversed as now the hills are out beyond the base looking in on you; however this isn’t that bad because the nearest enemy spawn is quite a walk away and you can usually hold the closest set of hills fairly easily making it an even fight. The position of the bases AA gun is a bit annoying though it’s out front and near the road which makes it vulnerable to anyone up their.
-The distance would seem a disadvantage when attacking, but I find it an edge it tends to allow an attack to gain momentum as it goes in and due the distance from the enemy spawn the enemy tends not to be able to put a stream of men out to block you constantly from getting into the base and once you’re in the base it’s a do or die battle.

I also find the northern base entrance easier to assault and much harder to defend then the western one.

If the Chinese get their act together and contain the landing or with luck even drive it back into the sea (though this is hard and relies more on the marines being stupid then the Chinese being good) they can usually bleed the marines to death in the initial capture point with artillery, air, and tanks.

If the Chinese spread themselves all over and camp out the Air base looking for planes and allow the marines to consolidate and push through to they’re in trouble…

It’s possible for China to come back from the loss of the Airbase, but they have to do it QUICK once their planes run out of bombs and missiles and the USMC nukes their artillery and support systems they are usually boned and forced onto defense until they are eventually bleed to death or sometimes even lose all points. I’ve seen several games where in the end the only Chinese left where pilots zooming around in basically empty planes.

I actually see far less ring around the rosy with the flags in BF:2 then I did in 1942 I tend to see the marines capture one peninsula and then push on the airfield from it while China defends then they move onto the next and the next. It CAN happen, but I find that what often happens is that even if a rear point is capped most people keep spawning into “Front line” and so the new base tends to be weakly defended and gets recapped rather fast this can sometimes allow the team on defense to push forward and retake a point though.

Anyway I like the map since I’ve always preferred maps that tend to funnel fighting into a small area while not TOTALLY negating possible flanking. (Karkan--- however it’s spelled was always a favorite of mine as well.) Wake dose this well the battles tend to be big and involve most of the players on the map and even plane campers sometimes come out to play when they can hear gunfire only a hundred feet from their position…

Then again I always liked wake in 1942 as well… Defending a small patch of land against a besieging force is frankly a scenario I’ve always had a soft spot for. (who dosen't love a last stand honestly?)

At the beginning I was uncomfortable with it. Over time, I now enjoy it. Their were times, USMC won, and then their were times China won. Awesome map.

Q: can you swim from one flag to the other? (the top most flags? it looks wider, that was a GREAT tactic

1- i MISS the amphibious craft the MEC forces had in DC, it gave the mec a chance, unless the americans where smart and had a tank to blast everything in the bay, witch was fun to0

2- hmm.. i forget what i was going to say, mabey i shouldnt post at work? while doing work.. oh well... good map, glad to see it back

3- oh right.. ya the buildings, the buildings suck, PLEASE BRING BACK THE BUILDINGS

A heavily guarded island makes for great fun. I mean look at Karkand. One of the best City maps. Why? Because all the flags are already capped by MEC forces. Also, the USMC are all coming from the same place. That is why Karkand is great.

On Wake 2007, there are several options that the US can go. It really makes the map more fun. I played it for hours last night and I must say its giving Karkand a run for its money being the best map of BF:2

Its an absolute blast, i must say.

Heres a mad tactic for USMC that requires total cooperation - Load up a BH with Squad LEaders and bail over the airfield. everyone spawns on them and voila! massive attack!

Will require a lot of cooperation, its not worth it really.
