The latest games and thier addons- as well as patches are just going to get bigger with technology and software progress. Sooner or later u will have to get on.

Been there, done that. Patching works fine. Problem is, when you have patched manually, the result is a black screen. And oh, all drives besides my %systemdrive% has above 20 Gb free. The one with TMP mapped to it has 160 Gb. My %systemdrive%, however, only has 650.
The main problem being that the patcher is supposed to use the 1600 mb supplied via the TMP variable. This also according to EA (see the post at the EA forums for more information from EA. Now, during the installation, setup.exe checks : for some unknown reason (they have configured it to do so, or just forgot to change the path to a %tmp% property for the diskcheck).
Check the installation with sysinternals filemon for an easy checkup, just before the 1600 mb message comes up, it checks C: for available space. whether you have your TMP there or not doesnt matter.

Zoster tryied your tip but whenever i try to launch it from my BF2 install directory all i get is "EA GAmes is not an internen command" and as of that i cannot try your advice.

The black screen issue when trying to open the game is a hardware issue not software, it needs to be dealt with as a separate point plz post individual posts in this part of the forum with full sys specs and try to keep to the facts and not vent.

Why people like to play smart asses. Oh please, leme also re-install windows too. I had no "hardware issue" you are talking about untill I applied the patch 1.03 according to the 1.02 method. 1.03 seems to work differently so setting the TMP and TEMP works!
As I posted, again in this thread http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?p=419673 -- THIS METHOD W O R K S, it worked for me and worked for others. Just quit whining and do what it says exactly. Except that you will not use X drive and you will create some temp folder on your game drive.

Again Billen, screen freeze, BSOD (black screen of death) is a hardware issue and may be attributed to your Vid card not being able to handle the new map what are your pc hardware specs plz
Tried both Windows XP, and Windows XP 64. Got the latest drivers/BIOSes for all equipment on windows XP, and somewhat older drivers on Windows XP 64. It could just as well be due to changes in their software, making it unable to work with certain drivers for example, which still makes it a software issue.

kamenjar your flame at me has been extinguished, i am guessing that you are not a naturally speaking English person so before you flame at someone I suggest you look at the connotations of the thread before you start calling someone a smart ass. Total BS. Both of my environement variables are set for System and user. Both point to C and differnet directories in C. When I ran the patch with comand line I saw files appearing in X:.
