This patch requires according to the errormessage i get 1,6GB free space on my C:/ drove and my C: drive is 4,5GB big cause i only have windows on this and there is no chance in hell i can make 1,6gb free, i have about 900mb free now. DUDE, are you saying you have a 16GB and a 45 GB hard drive or a 1.6GB and a 4.5GB???

No its an 80gb HD but C:/ is windows like 4,5GB and rest is D:/ for games.

I try reinstall bf2 first then try that patch trick.

Sorry its not working, been busy playing around install bf2, then uninstall change folder but this final part of the suggestion

"patch.exe" "x:\path to battlefield 2"

it just makes a cmd prompt pop out for a half second then quickly exit so i guess it never does update

ok i had the same problem of not enough space in my c: drive and trying to change the patch location did not change a thing so i did what one of you said and copyed the file from created by the pach into a bigger partition and ran the patch.exe it created in the same folder a folder called "mods" like the one you find in your bf2 installation folder now my first question is do i simply paste it in the bf2 folder to replace the "mods" folder from the bf2 folder and second i have also a hard time figuring why they need 1.6gb of space for the patch to install as the "mods" folder created by the patch is only 24.4mb or those the fact that it was unable to install due to the lack of space is making the temp folder incomplete

Okey man, just a problem after i press the language setup it starts to extracts to my C:/ drive and within a few seconds i get the 1600MB needed error. What am i missing that you say i must move the folder with the numbers in it ?

That is correct. Once you get the 1600 mb error, leave the error alone. After that copy your "numbers" folder from %tmp% (enter %tmp% at start\run to get to your temp folder quickly, for those that didn't know) to another drive. After you have copied it, exit the installer with the 1600 mb error message.

After this, start a cmd window and run:

NUMBERFOLDER\patch.exe "path\to\battledfield 2 installation"

Note that you might click and drag patch.exe to get it's path properly into the cmd window. Also note that you need to enter the path to your own Battlefield 2 folder after patch.exe.

A quick and dirty way of accomplishing the patching is to simply copy patch.exe, along with the files surrounding it, into your Battlefield 2 folder and just doubleclicking patch.exe. Note that you need to delete the files you copied into the folder after the patcher is done.

Same black screen here. The wonderboy at dice/EA that decided to let a complete amateur package the patch should be...handled in an unpleasant manner.

It seems that running the patch manually ruins it for some of us. Unfortunately the wizkids at dice/ea wont let us use our TMP folders at other partitions, or they just decided to check the systemroot for fun.

Maybe they will release another setup.exe without the systemroot demand. Yup, that'll happen.

The last thing the installer does according to sysinternals filemon is the following:

I give up on this game. I followed the instructions here and the patch updated bf2, but when i try to run the game, it goes black and kicks me back to windows. Who the hell packaged this patch? I've downloaded 300meg patches before and they let me install in my other partition. Great job DICE/EA

IM trying one other thing now, uninstall bf2 and install again and enter BF2 but dont patch yet and configure your video settings as they were when it worked before then save them exit and try patch again, im gonna do that too see if the settings were screwed up its worth a try.

Yeah same here, Ok then im out of ideas ive tryied just about everything even checked so i didnt have any virus or any other nothing nada zipp... it just refuses whatever i do and if they dont bring out another fix or something it looks i wont be playing bf2 for some time then.

4. Keep the patch-window open and go to your start menu, select "run".
5. Write %temp%
6. Enter the folder {alot-of-digits-and-letters} and proceed to a a folder with a similar name. For example:

7. Locate the 13 patch files, they are

I have the same problem of having too little space and i found out that in the temp folder, there are only 12 files instead of 13. The missing file is dir.txt and i think this could be reason for hazzard's bf2 to return back to desktop upon opening bf2..

Yeah i found that too and im missing dir.txt too but i tryied running the Patch it says update successfully on every file it updates but still getting the black screen.
