No. If EA doesn't want to support the BF2 community by allowing ranked custom made maps by the community then the ranked map system will certainly lose it's attraction to me.

Yes thats true, but Dice made the map editor themselves. They know the ins-and -outs. There maps, can't say for sure, but maybe of higher quality or better polished, who knows.

After the maps we have in BF2 now? I'm not paying for more of that, the mods almost HAVE to deliver better maps just by probability, not to mention they have experienced mappers as well and fresh ideas to add to that.

Paying extra for maps will never work. The 42 expansion packs are a great example as it was often hard to find games going on those maps. Server did not want to run them since not everyone who had the game might not have them and yadda yadda. For a multiplayer game, we all need the same maps and such so the community can stay strong and always have a wide selection of good populated servers to choose from.

well, actually, EA wants it to be where we have to pay for new maps for BF2. When you first install BF2, and get an e-mail after registering the product. The e-mail asks if you'd like to help them by completing a survey. In the Survey most of the questions are how much would you spend on new maps and things. I saw prices even up to $4.99 for like a couple maps. Which is absurd. I will never pay for maps, and I don't think anyone else should either.
I think it would destroy the community. Because you as a gamer have to wait till the people who have servers buy the extra maps to enjoy the new maps. If the server admins don't buy them then you can't use the new maps. Which then divides the amount of free ranked servers you can join into a bunch of fractions. Some servers will only have a couple new maps and not all that came in a package. And EA official servers will have most likely all the new ones. SO those who don't buy get alienated.
I will never buy products that depend on other peoples purchase decisions to allow me to play what I bought.

Your thoughts?

the reason they said free of charge is because of the survey they sent out, people might get confused and think they have to pay for maps now, but they dont

NO, they are pretty lame in map developing i have seen some great maps that modification teams are building at the moment!

Its not complex enough and i hate the fact that the EA maps are to OPEN for the foot soldier!
There is not a single forest to hide in, only buildings buildings and buildings and here and there some trees!

- Operation clean sweap sure could use some forest (its an island so why not a forest)
- a jungle map would be nice!

I hope you guys realize many people paid for extra maps and guns with BF1942. Its called an expansion pack (secret weapons etc.). I think they meant "free of charge" in order to give themselves unneccessary props. They could have just waited until the expansion pack inevidably comes out to release Wake Island, which is just a lazy way of adding on a map. It almost looks like they just re-textured everything and that was it.

i don't see why EA can't certify custom maps made by others. If they can prove there's no more exploits/unbalances than their own maps, why not allow them to be ranked?

But this is EA we're talking about. The company with it's head up it's collective ass.

yeah I agree. EA has done nothing for the community. That’s why I'm angry at the special forces expansion pack. Were getting an expansion pack a couple months after release when we, the community, haven't done jack in the original product we bought; barely played it since June, barely exploited every twist and turn of the maps we play on. The map editor/mod editor gives BF2 so much depth, but it's barely been used at all, and now we need to buy an expansion pack?

If EA would just put something on their site, like "Community Map of the Week" where EA has approved of a customized map from some dude, and posted on there site. So many BF2 users check the official site for updates. If maps of the community were posted there, it would give the maps so much more credit and incentive to the users to download them. Would eventually get to a point where every BF2 player existing would have the same new maps.
Cause, as it stands now, there’s lots of maps made by various people and from TotalBF2, but, so many people don't download them or for use in ranked servers and the like.
It's like EA was half assed about the map editor, chucked it out there and then just forgot about it because it doesn't make them any money.
The map editor just hasn't gotten very big, or been given the publicity that it needs. BF2 [the original not expansion] could be so much better, more amazing, but then we wouldn't care so much about buying the expansion.
