If EA would just put something on their site, like "Community Map of the Week" where EA has approved of a customized map from some dude, and posted on there site. So many BF2 users check the official site for updates. If maps of the community were posted there, it would give the maps so much more credit and incentive to the users to download them. Would eventually get to a point where every BF2 player existing would have the same new maps.
Cause, as it stands now, there’s lots of maps made by various people and from TotalBF2, but, so many people don't download them or for use in ranked servers and the like.
It's like EA was half assed about the map editor, chucked it out there and then just forgot about it because it doesn't make them any money.
The map editor just hasn't gotten very big, or been given the publicity that it needs. BF2 [the original not expansion] could be so much better, more amazing, but then we wouldn't care so much about buying the expansion.

We are informed that EA is planning a "centralized download site" however that is "taking longer than planned" - quotes from [EA]LBrown at the forums.

Also the reason the editor isn't getting any publicity is because EA made such a half-assed job of it. Its still in the beta stages and will remain so until EA ever complete it and make it an official release. They could never publicise it in its current state because it is such a heap of s**t.

I don't mean to be an EA basher but they do only truly care about money.
They have stifled the mod community and editor community just so they can make another easy buck out of people.

If we had mods and maps which were effectively made and utilised by bf2 then we'd never buy their expansion pack(s).
They don't release all the information about their game, release an incredibly buggy "editor", have the poor ranked system for their maps, make mods unranked only - for one reason only. To make an extra buck.

What can we do? Don't buy their expansion but download mods. Abandon EAs ranked servers in favour of unranked mod servers. In the extreme don't buy any EA releases.
Maybe EA will finally realise that there's no point having a mod community if they don't support them. But as long as people keep buying EA (and servers keep paying EA for "ranked status"), they will continue like this.

It would probably infuriate the consumers. Two scenarios with that:

1) Want to empty out a server really fast? Switch it to a map that alot of people don't have.

2) People buy the maps, wanting to play them online, only to find that server admins won't put them up because they do not want to see their serves empty out.

I would pay for new maps if they came on a cd or something, I mean, it takes a very long time to make a massive map like Gulf of Oman or Kubra Dam or any of those, so I think that that hard work should not go un-accounted for.

omg you muppet look at the mods and maps made by the community dam ive not got the patch yet but ive already played wake island you can download it for free mate of file planet . Actualy some of the maps in the totalbf2 map pack are awsome try downloading (try the chinese city based one thats my fav at the meoment )

I wouldnt buy maps for ea not unless 5 bucks gave me 20+ maps
