In my 100+ hours as a commander I'm sorry to say I rarely see snipers doing anything useful. Some levels like Shongua 32/64 also have a lot of vehicles and you can't get very far with an M95 against an APC. BF2 is a conquest game and the object is to win by having more tickets than the opposing team and this is done by capping flags. I don't give a damn if you have 100 kills and 5 deaths as long as the team looses the round.

Once again, I see that people are only sighting snipers that are foolish to get be made after firing one or two shots. Despite what my stats say, I'm a pretty good sniper (most all of those deaths I racked up in my first few days of playing), and I almost never get spotted anymore, now that I've gotten better. Why? Because I don't go up on top of buildings and other silly things like that. I'll find a nice bushy area (with more than ONE bush), and go prone in there, fire several rounds (usually picking off three-four guys), maybe dropping a Claymore, and then take off. Works pretty much every time, and even if I'm spotted, I've made sure my position always alows for a speedy and undetected retreat.

And I still can't believe anyone says the sniper rifle is underpowered. It will sometimes take me three shots to peg someone, but for the most part it only takes one. It's a matter of leading your target.

But if I haven't gotten them by three, I move. If it only took two, I don't worry about it. The odds of them finding me after just one round are very low. But three... The first one alerts them, the second one give the general idea, the third shows them the muzzle flash. Even if I've killed them with the third shot, I move because they've probably seen it.

Snipers aren't powerhouses that can pick a fly off the wall with no practice. If you're having trouble with the acurracy, get more practice. That's all there is to it. A good sniper is invaluable.

I cant wait to snipe the starter of this thread.

I guarantee you I help my team when I'm a sniper. Countless times I've killed a guy that was about to toss a hand grenade into flag radius and kill my entire squad. Proper sniper tactics in BF2 certainly do help your team.

May you get headshot everytime you play.

Countless...hehe I love anecdotal evidence. I'm sure this happens every round or two... The guy made some great points regarding snipers. Of course, if he'd said something negative about pilots, I'd probably be on his ass for it. But, in this case, I agree with him. Snipers are 90% useless and 10% obnoxious.

I've told you why I sometimes use a sniper. Answer to that (post 82).
If you chose not to answer posts that don't go along with your theory but instead prove you wrong, then this thread is a waste of time. Try listening to views in opposition to yours.

Of course the truth is that most snipers are pointless but there are some of us who help our team. If you just want to believe that every sniper is a lame, no good camper, then you go ahead, but thats not the truth.
If you still wanna believe that then this thread should be locked for being a waste of our time.

well ithink the goal of bf2 is to try and create a realistic field of combat

abviously ahem it is a GAME therefore not subject to the rules of real life

ie ramming a 32million dollar jet into a flying cow for 5 kills

and even though sniper is not my favorite character it is fun to pick off peeps as they scramble for cover as they try and cap a flag and that's the point having fun!!!!!!!!!!

That's just it, I'm not a sniper. If you check my stats, you'll see what I mean. I'll take medic, engineer, or assault, with emphasis on the engineer (favorite class). Sniper is probably the one class that goes against my style of fighting. And the thing is, even I can be good at it with a little practice. That way, if the situation calls for it, I know I can pull it off. Like if I run out of ammo and pick up a sniper's kit.

And no, the sniper is not invaluable to himself. Tell me... if you and your squad mates were traveling along, and someone with a genade launcher was sneaking up behind you to pop you all, and he was picked off by a sniper, would you still think that snipers are worthless? Actually, you probably would, because you'd never notice that he just saved all your bacons.

People just don't notice sniper's accomplishments because they're not rushing out like maniacs popping n00b tubes, tossing ammo/medic bags, and slinging anti-tank missles around. No, wait, check that. People don't notice a *good* sniper's accomplishments. They notice the newbie snipers that get picked off by hiding in predictable locations all the time.

there is a saying "when you've done something right, no one will know you've done anything at all" or something like that. But I do agree that at times too many people play the class, imo to have a good game you need a good mix of all the classes. including snipers.

The USMC must have snipers for a reason. I wouldn't think they'd have them if they didn't find them useful, wouldn't you think?

This is true, but the number of snipers that they actually have is small. It's nothing like this game where (theoretically) all of your team can be snipers.
