It's not dumb, it a clever bit of thinking. They obviously took out alot of things that were/were nearly in-game and decided to put them in an expansion pack. We all may not like that, but they are a business at the end of the day, and need to make profit.

You don't have to buy the expansion by the way, you do have a choice

If you read the thread there is a post from an EA person

I don't consider an unofficial picture of a load screen a promise.

Night vision wouldn't be that usefull anyway since people would just crank up their screen gamma on "night maps" too see normally.

bah, no big whoop if some stuff don't make it, i mean alot of games have to cut things, but cutting them AFTER you announce them is messed up

That screen looks like a completly different game. I wanted that game but got BF2 and now have to get an expansion to get what I actually wanted. Night Vision, Objective game mode, cooloer loading screen :) , well....just lts more...

Clever bit of thinking? I doubt it. Greedy? Yes. Clever thinking would have included them actually giving us what they promised, then having to come up with MORE ideas for an expansion instead of removing these things from the original just to earn more money.

128 players = 128 dynamic mesh's to be rendered on your screen. Even with low settings a 9800 or 6600 couldn't handel that.

128 players = 128 pawn data packets that have to be communicated at least 20 times a second to provide any sort of choppy looking crap.

128 players = Lots of money to buy a server which could handle it.

128 players = Too many problems for an already unoptimized engine.

Remember a Dynamic mesh is really the only thing rendered, static is always set in place, so when its rendered once its simply saved.

Thats why you cant have fully destructable object online without creating a totally new innovative protocol for your packets as to efficiently reduce them, however, sadly DICE doesn't have the expertise at it seeing as how poorly they constructed BF2.

Fully Destructable objects = all dynamic mesh's
Which is more than most graphics cards today can handel.
                        You sure told me
But i do remembering hearing it back in the E3 days.
Maybe they hoped for servers to come down in price and them having a better optimized game engine.

We can but dream about what could have been...

This game did not deliever anywhere near what it could have. With another mere months this game could have been soo much more. And whats with those better menus the early screenshots showed. Now we have these candy land boring ones compared to the impressive early ones.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the only reason I bought BF2! Now that there's no night vision scope I might aswell throw the game away!
