    Re: Dice broke the promise

Think about it, fully destructable enviroments would require us to all have super computers and 100Mb/s internet connections.

they never ever said bf2 would have FULLY destructible environments, all they said was certain objects were destructible. they said this from the beginning

I'd like to see thermal scope for the sniper's, THAT would be awsome.

                  Not a good idea.

128 players = 128 dynamic mesh's to be rendered on your screen. Even with low settings a 9800 or 6600 couldn't handel that.

128 players = 128 pawn data packets that have to be communicated at least 20 times a second to provide any sort of choppy looking crap.

128 players = Lots of money to buy a server which could handle it.

128 players = Too many problems for an already unoptimized engine.

Remember a Dynamic mesh is really the only thing rendered, static is always set in place, so when its rendered once its simply saved.

Thats why you cant have fully destructable object online without creating a totally new innovative protocol for your packets as to efficiently reduce them, however, sadly DICE doesn't have the expertise at it seeing as how poorly they constructed BF2.

Fully Destructable objects = all dynamic mesh's
Which is more than most graphics cards today can handel.

yes battlefield 2 is very poorly constructed. why did you buy it?

                      Ummm... actually no.

The only way it could give you away would be through infrared or nightvision goggles.

Meh. The laser pointer would work out like this:

You crawl to a good location, paint up a juicy target, and -

No plane shows up, because the pilots are too busy farting around. Or,

A plane shows up and misses the target, hitting you. Or,

An enemy shows up and knifes you because you're standing still. Or,

A sniper blows your head off because you're standing around with a pretty little laser pointer, doing nothing.

                        . . .

I believe DICE took out the pointer because testers said it wasn't fun.

Yeah, but you could point it in their eyes and blind them right? Right?

                                Re: Dice broke the promise

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammelled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains."

thats the translation of the latin text - its widely used for "filler" text.. whatever they are showing.. is just in beta stage.. its being developed...

the thing i like most about what i see.. is that the game mode says OBJECTIVE.. getting some actual TEAM play.. would be great..
