I switched to ATI (X850XT), updated the 5.7, 5.8 & now the 5.9. No problems. I used the ATI uninstaller, then ran Driver Cleaner Pro, then installed the 5.9, cleaned out BF2 cache folder, ran MS adware cleaner, Disk Clean-up & then Disk Defragged.
I have a P4 2.6mhz (Gateway), 1 gig 3200 (400) RAM, ATI X850XT vid. That vid card sure does run things nicely. Gonna get another 2x512 of RAM.
It's nice to hear that some peeps still have a sensible approach to card drivers.

But "Got Your Back" I would hold off on that new RAM and look at some info I put up in this forum on ram, before you buy! http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29875

Well, a few others have had their say on the new 5.9's, so now it's my turn.

I'd been using the NGO 2.5.8 build, which had given me great performance on my old ATI Radeon 9600 AIW Pro, and ran BF2 a couple fps faster than the standard Catalyst 5.8. About 34 fps at 800x600, 4x AA, High Geometry, Hgih Draw Distance, Low Dynamic lighting & shadows, and 100% view. It would sometimes drop down to as low as 20 fps when the fighting got heavy.

I doubted I could get much more out of my card. After switching to the Catalyst 5.9, however, I was able to run the same settings at a higher fps. A nice little boost up to 38-41 on average, to be exact, with the very lowest frame rate being 25. I got pretty near a solid 5 extra frames on the high and low ends. Not too shabby.

So for those with older cards like mine, you may very well experiance higher FPS just like I did, while those with newer card may not see much of performance difference. That's what I would figure, anyway. 5.9 is great for those who don't like 3rd party "tweaked" drivers, too. Me, I can't wait for the latest NGO 1.5.9 build to be released. If it boosts the speed over the Catalysts like 2.5.8 did, I'm going to love it.

I have not read this thread but I think it's noteworthy, for me at least, that these drivers lagged my whole system on a 9700 Pro. This is the very first set of Cat. Drivers to ever cause any problems.

I'm sure I could get them working with some tweaking but it is odd none the less.

ok I installed ati 5.9 and the results were awful. There was no increase in my fps and it was only supporting a refresh rate of 60 hz. My fps actually dropped from 50-60 to 40-45. thats why i switched back to my omega 5.6 drivers which work more than awesome. Note: i didnt change my settings or anything like that and my ping was the same as usual 26.

                  badsubby: What's your hardware setup?

As a note, I've now started experiancing the game locking up and crashing my PC since installing 5.9. I'm going to do a virus/spyware scan, as well as a defrag to see if that stops it.

Also, I've gotten more FPS by switching to 2x AA, and using Temporal AA 2x. It looks just as good as 4x for the most part, and gives me an average rate of 40-45, instead of 33-38. Just a tip for those who want high AA settings but can't quite get it.
