    Top 10 Tanks

    For your entertainment :

According to the Military Channel, based on the following criteria :

    1. Firepower
    2. Armor
    3. Mobility
    4. Production rating
    5. Fear Factor

    ---

(Click on the names for details) :

    1. T-34 - (Russia)
    2. M1 Abrams - (USA)
    3. Tiger - (WWII Germany)
    4. WW1 Tank - (UK)
    5. Centurion - (UK)
    6. Panzer MK IV - (WWII Germany)
    7. Challenger - (UK)
    8. T-54/T-55 - (USSR)
    9. Merkava - (Israel)
    10. M4 Sherman - (USA)

I was surprised by the absence of either T-72, T-80 or T-90 but the T-34 is an obvious choice since it changed the course of the WWII. Those things were produced at the rate of 1300 units per months. To give you an idea, only 1500 German Tiger tanks were produced during the whole war.

It was also the first tank to implement the "slope" armor, designed to "bounce" the incoming ennemy shells.

Anyway, it was an excellent program explained by well-known military historian. Hope you like the infos.

    Cheers.

They would have put the M1A1 Abrams number 1 but there isnt a tank out there like the M1 that has had head to head combat or something like that i cant remember what exactly it was but in those general lines

          Re: Top 10 Tanks

I'm most surprised about the WW I tank making it in that list.

Have a top speed of 4 mph on flat land
          (speed?)
The ability to turn sharply at top speed
The ability to climb a 5-feet parapet
The ability to cross an eight feet gap
A working radius of 20 miles (mobility?)
A crew of ten men with two machine guns on board and one light artillery gun. (firepower?)
          1 cm - 0.8 cm armour?

          nice read though :)
That doesn't sound like it meets the above requirements whatsoever..

Btw The russian tank got first place because it was very sturdy. It was easy to produce, it had good armor, good mobility, good power, and it was cheap. They produced like 1000 each month or so, is what the Military channel said I believe.

The abram didn't get first place because it hasnt had the chance to proove itself in combat against tanks of the same rank, since they are owned by our allies.

Yeah, I watched it today...but I only got to number 3, Tiger...and then I turned off the TV..

I don't really liek MIlitary Channel, most of the programs are boring and it's always WW1 or Vietnam, Battleplan

I like watching Mail Call on the History Channel better :)

btw, watch Mail Call, Friday at 10p.m....it's gonna be about guns, w00t w00t

The 34 really deserves to be on top. It helped change the course of WW2. It was better than the Panzer 4 which was the main german tank at that time. I have read about the german frustration from seeing shells bounce off the sloping armor of the T34.

You idiots, it clearly states that it takes in factors such as fear and production rating. The M1 *may* be the best tank in your *world* now, BUT it is a top 10 from every tank ever made, not what is the best tank right now. The Abrams shouldn't even be 2nd, the Tiger owns it on the fear factor.
