Does this Master Ban List ban for anything PB kicks you for? I've gotten kicked by PB in other games for having my gamma a bit too high. I know why they kick for that, but I didn't think mine was THAT high, but it would suck to be banned fro ma bunch of servers for something like that.

PB doesn't do CVAR checks (game variables), at least as far as I have seen, only server administrators. Gamma would fall into the realm of an in-game variable. MD5, is a one-way hashing algorithm...essentially it takes every byte from a given input, runs it through its algorithm, and comes up with a fixed length value (hash). What good is this ? Well, every file has its own MD5 value (obtained by running md5sum on the file) and if even one bit changes in the file, the hash will be a different value than the original. This then becomes a very sound way to check if a file has been altered (ignoring recent claims of hash collisions, which is why some people also do SHA1 hashes). So essentially, PB can be told the MD5 value of the original, unaltered game files and then be told to compare the hashes of the players files (some in memory) to the known 'good' files...if the two don't match then you get kicked for altered game files (PB doesn't usually do this by default, but administrators can run checks). PB also has the ability to ensure that certain files do not exist in the game directories, which can also cause an MD5 kick (or possibly pure mode breach or whitelist, depends on the file and a few other things).

What can cause a file to not match an original ? Corrupted files (can happen for example if windows crashes and the file is open at the time), bugs in PB (sometimes PB can get out of synch and compare the wrong MD5 hash value, I see this everyday in our AA server), deliberately altered game files (self-explanatory), among other things. As you can see, of the 3 reasons listed, only 1 is b/c of cheats, so that is the reason for the previously posted, take it with a grain of salt until you know exactly what the MD5 kick was regarding...I would assume that if Punksbusted (a group of server admins, NOT Evenbalance (makers of Punkbuster) placed it on their ban list then it was for a deliberately altered game file...but then you would have to take it up with them.

...which therefore does not make me wrong since you yourself said that a "huge number" does, even though I disagree. I agree that they are for fun, but it is disheartening to see someone that knows they cheated/scammed their way to be #1.

I'm confused here, what are you implying with my saying of "huge number?" How does that phrase make you not wrong? It was meant to be in conjunction with elektric; as in he most likely didn't care about stats to where he goes insane and in tantrum when he found out his stats got erased.

I too agree that the BF2 stat system sucks and shows signs of flaws and laziness. Global score is based on the amount of total points a player gets after each round. They never take account of other variables such as K : D ratio, Flag captures, teamkills, etc. To me, BFtracks had the best formula of stats, BF2 stat is the worst stat I have ever seen next to csports.net.

Also, you have to account the fact that the time of playing in the knife/pistol server was only a very small fraction of his total playtime. So even if he didn't scam, he would still be at the top.

it makes me not wrong because you said that I was wrong because "[I] seem to believe that people play for stats and care about stats if its high and prestigious." Then you say a "huge number" right after that which would therefore be a contradiction to what you just said. That is how I am not wrong. I do play a lot just for stats and do care about rank. That's my choice. Not everyone does, not everyone doesn't.
I am not too sure if he would still be a top player if he did not play on the knife and pistol servers unless he put the same amount of time into it. I honestly doubt that it was only a "small portion of his play time" as he got erased for it. It must have been a significant amount of time because if it was not, EA would not have erased them. There are tons of people that played in those and their stats were not erased, which to me proves there was some heavy play involved in these servers.

I would never cheat. Heck look at my stats. I suck at k:d ratio. I am not a armor chopper or jet whore either. I would rather be last than be a cheater.
